And loyalty, as well, it was so extreme that when they were filming Lord of the Rings, Sean Astin who plays Sam took it as far as fetching coffee for him, making sure his clothes were washed and folded neatly, and even getting onto some of the crew and others and taking a protective stance on everything to do with Elijah, because he was in character for the entire time they filmed it, as a method actor. The word Tolkien created, with languages and cultures and races. It is such a beautiful world. With beautiful stories, so complex and amazing. I learn something new each time I read it.
In terms of technical depth and achievement HP doesn't begin to compare to LOTR; Rowling named all her spells using very obvious/basic English/Latin root words. Tolkien literally wrote entire new languages and built his stories around them. Man was a master linguist on top of being an author.

@@terriewatson8828 I see this come up a lot and it annoys me a little. There are many reasons that they couldn't fly the whole way there. One is that the eagles are proud animals and not beasts of burden. Gandalf does not command the eagles he has a working relationship with Gwaihir who does him a few favours. There is also the fact that the only reason they managed to get so close to Mordor was that Sauron and the Nazgul were distracted by the Army of Men at the black gate. I taught Sean drums when he was a very young boy somewhere near his teens. His Father, John Astin, would call me religiously every Saturday morning around 9 AM to talk about his progress.
Damn! I want to be Sean Astin's friend. He has always been such a humble and down to earth guy. I forgive him that he hadn't heard of The Lord of The Rings now because he admits to loving it. How could he even ask if anyone has heard of his Dad? He was a legend.

I still have LOTR marathons and watch both sets of movies. I do the same thing with Harry Potter. I get to be 70 next year. You can count on me doing this at least twice a year. I still haven't read the books though I think I will this year.
there are really nice audiobooks of the hobbit narrated by Andy Serkis and the Lord of The Rings trilogy freely available on TH-cam. Definitely recommend checking them out!
Rewatching Lord of the Rings every year or so is a ritual of mine, and it never fails to move me. Also, Stephen should absolutely host a cast and crew reunion of Lord of the Rings on his show.
But Game of Thrones has so many interesting characters compared to LOTR, even though it is ''inferior'' to the whole fantasy thing that tolkien build in the first place
Sean was a guest at the Cincinnati Comic Expo several years ago, and he did something that will forever cement him in my heart as a fantastic person. There were a ton of fans at his panel with other Tolkien/Jackson actors (I think Graham McTavish and possibly William Kircher), and the line for questions was getting too long for the allotted time. The moderator announced that only 1 or 2 more could be answered, and Sean said (not exactly, but the basic gist): " No. We are going to answer all these people's questions because they paid good money to come here and have a special moment." I just freaking wanted to hug him.

LOTR needed a Gollum to succeed in destroying the ring. And who let Gollum live in the first place? Yes. Frodo. Not Sam who was so intent in putting Gollum away. Frodo's mercy and sacrifice makes him the ultimate hero. No one is supposed to succeed in destroying it anyway but he saved himself when he saved another's life.
I'd love to see a long form interview about LOTR with these two. They both clearly love it, but with totally different experiences with the books/films.

Bob Newby, Superhero please come back to life. Hawkins needs you sir.
Sean Astin must be protected at all costs.
Yesss
I taught Sean drums when he was a very young boy somewhere near his teens. His Father, John Astin, would call me religiously every Saturday morning around 9 AM to talk about his progress.
What was he like?
Aw cute story
Now I'm curious if he can still play
My favorite lords of the ring character, right there on that couch.
And the most underrated. Frodo wouldn't have done shit without Sam
true that!
Underrated? Everyone loves Sam, everyone calls him the hero. I don't see Aragorn being called the hero nearly as much as Sam
Jacek Matuszyk well I think faramir is the most underrated charactor of all. Hardly anyone even knows who he is.
lords of the ring
love this guy, just seams like a great neighbor to have.
He seems like such a genuine down to earth nice guy! can imagine him being super polite everytime you cross paths outside
Hahaha, have him cut your grass for a year as a penalty
Damn! I want to be Sean Astin's friend. He has always been such a humble and down to earth guy. I forgive him that he hadn't heard of The Lord of The Rings now because he admits to loving it. How could he even ask if anyone has heard of his Dad? He was a legend.
I really wanted to hear the questions Astin had for Colbert about LOTR.
I love when Stephen fangirls out over LoTR.
I MET HIM!!!!! He’s the sweetest person ever
Lucky you
Wow. Very cool, glad to know he’s what he seems to be!
Wait a minute, what were Sean questions for Stephen? Come on Late Show editor person release the full version of this or at least the questions part.
he didnt ask on stage, maybe he asked him backstage afterward

Commander Ju who said web exclusiv?
I thought Stephen was kind of rude to brush him off like that when he said he had questions for Stephen.
I love that Stephen is honestly a humongous LOTR/Hobbit fan.
Colbert is totally fan-girling. Such an adorkable nerd!!! 🤓
Sean Astin the GOAT
Time for an LOTR marathon
StarlitShadows pants optional!
Just did one myself. No pants. It was awesome. Bring snacks though, you're gonna get hungry.
Shadows. Smoke a blunt while your watching it. Youll thank me later.
damn straight!
Six?
I still think Sean Astin should’ve been nominated and awarded the Academy Award (& other awards) for his phenomenal performance as Sam. He was incredible!!!
Such a great actor, his emotional acting is incredible
My god he's got a 15 year old daughter.. I feel old
His daughter played Sam's little Hobbit daughter when he returned home to Rosie and the baby after Frodo sailed away with the Elves.
Yeah, I’m glad its not just me. I’m like, WTF??? Dude, I still miss your retainer and you got a teenager??? Lol!!
He was making movies in the 80s, you shouldn't feel old
"The environment is going to rise up and protect itself"
-Sean Astin
He seems like a guy that can be friends with everyone.
I loved his character in stranger things, and he seems to be just as sweet in real life!
One of the most talented actors of all time he really deserves another lead role some day
I wish this interview would go on for hours with them talking about Lord of the Rings while smoking pipe-weed and blowing smoke rings 😁
tsociety also ships
Zane Addington you need Gandalf for that
Sean Astin will be forever Samwise Gamgee for me :3
Masterbating bodybuiilder from 50 First Dates for me.
“You can’t watch all of them at once” oh... well I guess I proved him wrong 😂😂😂
Literally every lotr fan is like 🤔🤔🤔
Just finished it again ,all of it at once after 2005.

I say that to my wife whenever we have 'taters' for dinner.
"What's 'taters precious?!"
Just finished watching all 3 LOTR in a row the other day, god damn it I love those films! such an amazing story. Sam truly is the hero! awesome job Sean, seems like such a genuinely nice guy too
I still have LOTR marathons and watch both sets of movies.
We dont deserve Sean Astin
Abc ced honestly
hes too good for this world
This is true
you're all peasants with low self esteem and don't deserve anything the god has put on this good earth
Abc ced yes we do u mook!!!!!!
Sean Astin is a legend
Rewatching Lord of the Rings every year or so is a ritual of mine, and it never fails to move me. Also, Stephen should absolutely host a cast and crew reunion of Lord of the Rings on his show.
The moment when you realize that Sean wasn't playing Bob, he was just being himself.
Isn't it shocking that Lord of the Rings finished FIFTEEN years ago??!! God I am old...
kevinmsft plus I read the books a decade before the movies came out!
kevinmsft yes you are, lol.
Nigga please, I saw The Goonies when it first came out in the movie theater
But Game of Thrones has so many interesting characters compared to LOTR, even though it is ''inferior'' to the whole fantasy thing that tolkien build in the first place
kevinmsft I’m just happy I’m alive to enjoy both series. I hope they keep writing and filming books and movies like LOTR and GOT.
FIND ME MY SAAAAAAMMM !!!!
Winny Tessalonika Here I am !!!
Master*
Hayward Bomaye so cliche...
Winny Tessalonika ...chances are he's right in front of you and you don't see him...
72marshflower15 oh but a Sam would've been pretty hard to go unnoticed..
Samwise Gamgee is definitely my most favorite character in the movie! He provided moral strength for us to keep going on thru adversities! I hope to meet a Sam in my life! Very inspirational character!!
I dont know whether it is just me or not. Everytime I see him, I see his genuine smile and a true friendship.
Samwise, we do not deserve you.
He sounds so enthusiastic with his line of work, even after all these years. Love it
he really has had a great career and seems like a genuinely nice person
I love how he's so excited when he describes his work
Sean Astin charming AF. Lovely guy.
i wanted to hear his questions for Stephen!
Yeah, so did I!
I was just gonna comment that! I wonder what he asked him. More LOTR stuff please!
me too! Damn it!
I hope there’s a longer cut of this that has them in there!!
Sean astin: you can’t watch them all at once.
Every lotr fan myself included: are you sure about that? 😏
we do it in costume.
Marvel movies marathon: Am I a joke to you?
@@tonymarino8 yes they are because they’re only made for money not out of love
we can...I watch it almost everyday..
I did
Love him he's so charming and so great, always seems to be smiling. Such a great actor and person ❤❤
His laugh is so adorable and contagious haha. Sam is our hero. Without him, Frodo would have been lost.
Yes Yes absolutely
4:15 oh let me tell you about my birthday tradition where I watch all three LotR uncut versions alone in my bed. It's the best day of the year.
#JusticeForBob
lexiwall don’t start this shit again
lexiwall This hashtag makes no sense because they already did find justice for him. They defeated the demodogs
Vladimir le Pepe oh true... he still didn’t deserve to die
lexiwall Ah man, who could have already commented this...
EPM 101 I read like the top 20 comments to make sure nobody already said it. Sorry if it was you or someone else that wrote it. Im not gonna waste my time reading every single comment just to make sure I’m not copying. In fact I posted this before I even read the comments. I didn’t even think it was something that people said... me and my friends started saying it as soon as he died 🤷🏻♀️
Sam is the biggest hero in LoTR
Sean did great
As an Englishman he nailed the accent, and it was a regional west country one think Thomas Hardy, well done you can count on one finger how many yanks have done that!
He's so sweet!
He’s just the sweetest guy
Is nobody gonna acknowledge how amazing Sean's laugh is?
There's such a purity to his laugh
Frodo wouldn’t have gone far without Sam
Lol ^ this guy getting triggered!
😭😭
Zoe Kouf For real. If sam would have carried the ring, instead of Frodo, it would have been the other way around
Zoe Kouf No one said Frodo was useless ffs stop getting triggered
I hope theres a longer cut of this
I'd love to see a long form interview about LOTR with these two. They both clearly love it, but with totally different experiences with the books/films.
DoctorFurioso exactly... 2 different perspectives ... The amount of questions theyd have for eachother...imagine a commentary with both them on a movie
just a full episode of the two of them.
Leaving a comment in case it pops up and someone shares it here.

Got the pleasure to meet Sean Astin a couple weeks ago! Such an awesome guy
Here's the most frustrating thing: why didn't Stephen let Sean ask his questions?
Because he's not a very good host.
He's not a very good anything.
He actually DID, as Sean Astin revealed in a con I just went to -- they just cut it for time. He was really put out that they cut it. :-(
They could have at least put the cut footage on TH-cam.
He thought they were going to when he learned they cut it! :-(
