I’m sorry at getting back to some of these comments. One of the things I love about this album is it only takes 10 seconds to tell it going to be great . I’m 71 and was lucky enough to hear all the good stuff. Jimi being my favorite.

I’ll tell a great story. This was about 25 years ago maybe 30 . The band had changed a lot Greg was surly there and I think Dicky Bets . You know that ABB brings in a lot of bikers and there a group there. One girl was dancing 💃 jumping and singing during the warm up, and the exact minutes the band started she passed out missed the whole performance 🎭

@@regis387 He got me into so many of the ABB concerts, and I know I was blessed. He is the guy on the far left, holding the Bud. BTW: Gregg said they were all laughing cause Duane (I think) just scored some cocaine across the street and they reacted. Most believed that it was NOT addictive back then. Then crack came along, a derivative of it and highly addictive. I got a few stories, but I was a straight arrow kid then, about 18. Imagine seeing the ABB at Red Rocks Ampitheater in Denver. Fillmore East is by far the best live album ever. Two drummers, two great guitarists, and a love of the blues is tough to beat. "You don't love me", the perfect song that drives you into the oblivion that happens between men and women. The duel between Duane and Dickie Betts is classic electric blues with Gregg's organ driving the rhythm. I heard this album in a dorm room back in 71 for the first time. It never gets old.

If you listen closely at the end of “You Don’t Love Me”, you hear them immediately go into “ Whipping Post” for another 20 plus minute joy ride. What a concert! Two virtuoso lead guitarists in Dickey & Duane, with Barry Oakley on base, Greg on keys & Butch & Jai Johnny on drums, the could play the blues or flat out jam with anybody. It was a tragedy to lose Duane & then Barry a year later, but this music will be heard forever.✌️❤️🎶

Hello from Macon Georgia the adopted home of the Allman Brothers and one of the birthplaces of southern rock in the early 70s. I was lucky enough to see them live many times. They're a jam band at heart and could turn a 5 minute song on an album into a 25 minute live masterpiece. Duane Allman ( guitar prodigy, they called him Skydog ) got killed not long after this was recorded in a motorcycle wreck. Gregg ( singer, piano ) just died a few years ago.

The keyboards are played by Greg Allman who is also the singer and is mostly a Hammond B 3 organ. The guitar solos are usually Duane Allman, one of the best guitar players EVER, taking the first crack, often on slide guitar, and then Dicky Betts, another great guitarist rounding out the song. And yes, Berry Oakley on bass is the secret sauce that brings it all together and drives it relentlessly forward. Not to fail to mention the damn near impossible to understand subtle interplay of not one, but TWO drummers who not only don't get in each other's way but actually COMPLIMENT what the other is playing.

This is, in my opinion of course, one of if not the best live albums ever produced. Duane Allman, on slide guitar, died in a motorcycle accident shortly after the release of this double album. I bought this recording on vinyl and I literally wore out the grooves and had to buy a second set. This album is over FIFTY YEARS OLD..... and still sounds fantastic. The mixing and production of this recording is stellar especially given the technology at the time. Great reaction..... take care.

This album, along with Eat A Peach (you have got to do the whole Eat A Peach, as well... it is partially a continuation of the Fillmore East album) I have just been entranced with for many many years.... since they came out, basically.... NEVER gets old.....
but YOUR REACTION made it very similar to hearing it for the first time.... well, maybe the 2nd time, because it was hard for me to really understand how big of an impact they would have on my life... it is unexplainable, really lol. I want to thank you for that.... you are a true energy and music lover, and you were glowing on this one ;)

Agreed. I still don’t understand how watching Verdy listen to a 50-year old album can evoke such vivid memories, but it does. She ‘gets it’. We were lucky to grow up with such great music.

Berry Oakley played the Fender electric bass. He modified the pickups to get the meaty sound he had. He nicknamed it "Tractor Bass"

Such a sad story. Lead guitarist Duane Allman died at 24 when his motorcycle ran into the side of a truck. He was a legendary talent. Even people like Clapton love to hear him play, as well as jam with him. Tragic day and a huge loss to the music world.

Not long after that tragic loss the bassist died the same way almost at the same spot.

Yes, Duane (RIP) was exceptional. He was the go to guy for slide guitarist on many song productions outside of the ABB. The only one, however, that comes to my old brain at the moment is on Derick and the Domino’s “Layla.” Wish I could think of the others.

funny story about the album cover picture = on the front cover shot no one is smilng or happy all are pissed off actually from all the pictures and corperate pressure from the execs - than on the back cover when they are all smiling and laughing is because Duane Allman ( seated second from left ) had just seen his " dealer " seconds before the picture was taken and still has the " 8 ball " of coke still in his left hand ( notice it is closed around something hahahaha and all the boys know he scored and are celebrating / laughing / happy at the upcoming party hahahaha

Top notch musicians, a legendary line up just making music for the music. I'am looking forward to my favorit song Whipping Post on side 2. The famous Tedischi Trucks Band is still carrying the legacy of this band with former member and slide guitarist Dereck Trucks and the enigmatic singersongwriter/guitarist Susan Tedeschi in front. Their band is world class. You should try them sometime. Fine reaction, thanks.

This is one of those albums you listen to over and over just to follow the individual instruments. Or better yet just get up and dance to.
The Fillmore East was in NYC, and the Fillmore West was in SF. The bands that played at both venues are quite diverse and (most times) very famous.

This is one of the best live albums ever recorded and it has the classic original band members, prior to the start of the deaths and infighting. The first guitarist you heard doing the short slide guitar solo at the beginning of Statesboro Blues was Duane Allman, who was very innovative and probably the best slide guitarist in the world. He unfortunately died in a motorcycle accident at only 24 y/o and then the bassist, Berry Oakley, also died in a motorcycle accident almost exactly one year after Duane and about 1000 feet from the site of Duane's accident on a parallel street (he was also 24 y/o). I can't imagine how much better both of them would have become as musicians if they hadn't died at such a young age. They had several different line-ups of the band members over the years, some much better than others, but I think the last line-up of the band (prior to breaking up due to Gregg Allman's death in 2017) was as great as these original members and it featured the great guitar duo of Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes (Derek Trucks essentially taking the role of Duane Allman and Warren Haynes taking the place of original member Dickey Betts, who was kicked out of the band many years ago mainly due to drinking, but there was also allegations of domestic violence). Derek Trucks was a child prodigy on guitar and he's probably the greatest living slide guitarist. He currently plays in the Tedeschi-Trucks Band, which he started with his wife, Susan Tedeschi, who is a phenomenal blues/soul singer. If you have never heard them, I would definitely recommend checking out a couple of their videos.

I remember reading something written by a former employee of Fillmore East. He said when the Allmans first played there (maybe '69 or so) that no one knew who they were yet. In the afternoon the Allmans were soundchecking and he said every office/dressing room door in the building flew open, everybody asking, "Who the hell are THESE guys?" He said they knew immediately that the Allmans were special. This lineup was absolutely amazing.

Two drummers (Jaimo and Butch) , Berry on elect bass, Duane & Dickie on lead guitars, Gregg on B3 Hammond organ and vocals, all masters of their instruments. Known for how "tight" they played, and inventing Southern Rock, a blend of rock, blues, country, jazz genre's. All were in early twenties when Fillmore Album came. Gregg wrote Whipping Post at 20!. ➡➡VERDY " hope you can see them, it helps the performance. The Fillmore definitely has a video and it's cool to see them in their element. Berry on bass and drums are the backbone of a band and you picked up on how good right away. TY for reacting. I go WAY back to the ABB and my cousin was their main Roadie, Red Dog. He got me into some insane concerts. lol. I did subscribe. I

Really great album. Duane Allman died in a motorcycle accident not long after this (he is playing all the slide guitar you are hearing). Dickey Betts is the other guitar player playing lead parts. Although they did write a lot of their own music, the first group of songs on the album are re-worked old Blues songs.
