- And so as 2023 comes to an end, it's time to look back at some of the good, and some of the bad! Studios have told us many stories in their big feature films, but what about the stories in the background? What were the biggest dramas of their movie productions. and who made the biggest bad and unethical decisions? It's time for a race to the bottom as we see how exploitative this industry is and ask: Who Was The WORST STUDIO Of 2023??

From Paramount's poor box office returns to Warner Bros. constant missteps, it hasn't been the best year for most. But Disney definitely had it the worst. One good Marvel Movie can't make up for maybe the worst centennial in history.

I'd say Loki S2 was another hit for the MCU at least critically, but yeah it's a shame that everything they released other than GOTG3 was some of their worst content. At least they also released some of their best to make up for it, but it's tiring to get so many disappointing projects
I am grateful for Barbie became a success for WB. Without the film existing (or cancelled via tax write-off), Warner Bros could be in the worst state as a lost cause.
Honorable mention def goes to MAPPA. They keep releasing bangers, but I feel like with the rushing and mass exploitation of their animators coming to more of the public eye, the backlash they’re getting is probably bigger than ever before.

Take it this way, they need to step up because movie after movie just doesn't or barely earn back their budget. With the cost of living worsen in 2023 for many, people would be a lot more picky which also doesn't help pretty much many Disney content just felt the same.

Songbirds and snakes is actually considered a box office success because it only cost 100 million and it has stuck around in theaters (its at 300 mill now).
Paw patrol is actually a success as well because it didn't cost that much to make. Only 30 million
5:42 The Paw Patrol Mighty Movie actually made 195.6 Million Dollars worldwide. That’s still over 6x its budget which was only 30 million.
THIS, a movie with such a young target demographic making that much is actually quite a success, not to mention, they probably make more off of merchandise
WB and Disney seem to be pretty well tied for last place, although overall I think Disney is still in worse shape if you look at the bigger picture

2023 HAS been 'an interesting one', as you put it Dazz. I know it's not quite on-topic, but movies this year really do just boil down to "Barbie, Oppenheimer and Mario were RIDICULOUSLY massive, and everything else seemed to outright bomb or pulled in mediocre numbers by comparison".
It's Disney. Period. Just with it being their 100 year anniversary.
Warner Bros. unfortunately suffered, but I'll admit, in my opinion, WB100 was single-handedly made worth it by the prospect of a local fan event I went to gathering lots of amazing fanart featuring Looney Tunes, DC and Hanna-Barbera characters, and the fact that Barbie and Wonka were two of my favorite films this year. I don't really care for DC, and I do agree that WBD is sucking ass, but I actually had a good time with WB100 this year! And Disney100, somehow. I do agree that the companies themselves need to improve, though.
The fact that Zazlav was actively booed at a college graduation just sounds hilarious to me.
Wrong, TMNT Mutant Mayham is not a flop when you factoring in merchandise and streaming service and it count as a hit. Also, they are already working on a sequel and a TV series for Paramount+ so I’m afraid you got the information wrong on this one.
3:45 Honestly, I think if Oppenheimer was rated PG-13 rather than R, it would've been almost as big as Barbie, since kids would've wanted to see both movies for the meme.
The fact that he put Bonetrousle while talking about bad working conditions is insane.
You know Paramount is in trouble when the Paw Patrol - the Mighty Movie is their biggest success of the year, yet would be considered breaking even, compared to other Paramount releases, and animated features. Moreover, there are indeed rumours of a potential merger between WB Discovery and Paramount, it seems the studio universe has shrunk into fewer exec hands, nevertheless, both WB and Disney were the biggest losers of the year. It's staggering when these studios lost the equivalent of whole nations' GDP, proof that no studio is too big to fail, market and consumer discipline have long been overdue, so it's time for WB and Disney to pay the piper.

Universal has won big time with Mario, oppenheimer and five nights at Freddy’s
I love Paramount but they’ve definitely seen better days. Rugrats, Garfield (despite the new movie coming out from Sony next year), Star Trek, the smurfs, teenage mutant ninja turtles as well as transformers are my favourite franchises ever from the company but they can each only do so much on their own.
Don’t forget that Universal also had Mario this year! I think they did the best this year

Universal also released Cocaine Bear at the start of this year but I don’t think that made a lot of money either. Not a bad movie overall considering it was one of the last ones Ray Liotta did before he passed away.

Disney has had the absolute worst year ever in the longest time! There’s no denying that unfortunately. I don’t have much hope for 2024 but they’re slowly cutting back on the number of releases. Deadpool 3 will be the only marvel movie from them unless you count all the Sony stuff.

Why did everyone hate Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse?
We don't hate the Across the Spider-Verse (expect those have optionals themselves). It's more of poor working conditions behind the scenes of artists and animators being overworked by Phil Lord's treatment of the production. Unlike every animation studios have to follow. Fun fact that the film's ending has been changed 6 weeks before the theatrical release.
