Here's another thing I hate about the fandom: Hate on the Hetalia Girls. In the hetalia fandom, there are people who hate the Hetalia girls because they ruin the yaoi ships or even further... The Hetalia girls steal their "Husbandos/ Senpais" the most weeb-ish thing I've ever heard. I honestly hate people that just want the hot guys and think that the girls should go die. I was about to stop watching Hetalia because I thought that there were no girls in the anime. I like animes with boys and girls equally and the Hetalia girls were what made me continue with the anime.
Plus its the fandom who started ships not the anime. I support you because it's just wrong to bash on the Hetalia girls. I think the girls in Hetalia are very unique, especialy Belarus and Seychelles in my opinion. I also hate that people see Belarus as an obssessive stalker. They forgot that Belarus and Russia are related and they also talk normally. Also, Belarus is just overprotective and PURE SAVAGE! Meanwhile, Seychelles must be the most lovable female character in the series. Sadly, people protray her as a mary-sue as she is shipped by most guys! That's just pure bullshit because the people in the fandom make those ships! Not herself nor the staff! Sometimes this fandom is simply outragious! A monstrosity! But I guess you wouldn't erase that in any fandom.
Wu Xiao Yu Trinity Chan I definitely agree. Although I haven't seen or experienced much of that in the Hetalia fandom yet (Joined earlier this year), as a member of the Kingdom Hearts fandom, I can say it happens a lot there too! The main protagonist is a boy and his two best friends are a boy and a girl. Half of the time, people in the fandom hate on the girl because the protagonist has a crush on the girl, but the fans say that she is in the way of the protagonist and his male friend. That happens to several other females in the series, even ones without a known love life. It's really upsetting. Luckily, there are others out there that love the female characters as well. I personally love all of the characters, in Kingdom Hearts AND Hetalia! ❤❤❤ I'm happy I found two people here with a similar opinion! 😁👍
Totally agree. No need to hate on the girls, I love them all! And if people don't like a ship, you can always pretend it doesn't exist! But don't yell at others for it.
I totally agree. I haven't experienced much of this myself, however I have seen it. Just the other day, while listening to Seychelles' character song, I saw so much hate towards her. I also saw comments about how people like Seychelles and love the rest of the Hetalia girls, which made me happy.
It's hard to believe some people could hate the girls. I've been in the fandom for 6 years and Seychelles and Belarus are still on my top 5 favourite characters xD
I think the one thing that scares the absolute shit out of me is the glomping. I had gone out with two friends for a BTT cosplay in a park last summer. I was Spain, and I was chatting with my France when out of nowhere this girl just screams "SPAIN!" And bam. I'm on the ground because she had jumped me by surprise. My two friends had to drag her off so I could stand up. Yeah, I love Hetalia, and I enjoy cosplaying, but Jesus Christ I didn't join this fandom to get tackled.
I know this is pretty late but something similar happened to me. I'm a male Italy cosplayer (I also do Prussia, Germany, Norway, Iceland, and Japan) and apparently that was a good enough excuse for some girl to throw herself on top of me. After I got up, she started hugging me and calling me "senpai" before then groping my crotch and chest to see if I was a "real guy". I have crippling anxiety so I went to the bathroom and literally almost cried. It was terrifying.
Hetafacts someone keeps calling me Denmark and it drives me insane. Said person is one of the people who don't give half a crap to try anyway. It makes me sad to see that they're attempting to be Norge but last I checked, Norway didn't follow Denmark like a lovesick puppy. And he doesn't wear purple..... *Shivers*
1.) Flag ettiquette. Flags symbolize an entire nation, and should be treated with the proper reverence. Flags that drag on the floor, flags on clothing items, flags that are upside down, and such are thus disrespecting the corresponding nation. 2.) Please do not simply yell out country names, or have tags with solely the country names. If you must mention the Hetalia nations to the public, use their human names or put "APH" before the nation name to signify that you are talking about Hetalia and not the nation itself. That is all. It's hard to do the right thing in this fandom, when so many of us aren't aware of what to do. Hopefully these tips will make a minuscule part of the fandom seem a little less off-putting to others : ).
I'm in two Hetalia communities and something that has been going on lately that's bothering everyone is the self-insert/bad and inaccurate OCs based on countries that are not in the original manga, which I've noted are mostly by younger/newer fans. I don't mind if you want to make an OC of your country, since mine isn't featured in Hetalia either, but if you are making one of another country that's not your own, PLEASE inform yourself first, otherwise you might offend a person who is from that country. I had a problem with a person who did something like that, and she blocked me while saying I was bullying her when the only thing I told her was that I was unhappy with how she was portraying my country. Basically, her version of my country was a slut who would stalk America and try to rape him in his sleep, and who would go on a murderous rampage if you annoyed her. As any other OC, I guess that's fine, but as a representative of an actual country, you can see how messed up that is. Then there's the self inserts which is actually a pet peeve for me in any fandom. Especially when they take it too far and insult you for liking a character because he's their "boyfriend". I'm not really involved with the shipping wars since I'm a multishipper who ships everything I touch, so....(shrug). Sorry for the long comment, I needed to vent.
Yeah I completely agree with you. I basically ship everything so there's no point for me to get involved in shipping wars when I probably ship what's being debated aha 😂
+Genesis Calderón (ZimVader0017) I agree. I think a lot of the issue with poorly done and offensive OCs is that fans basically make a character and assign them to any country they can find that isn't already a canon character. They often choose personalities that are cliche that they think is cool or 'interesting,' or they just assign their own personalities to a country they found. (Honestly the OC you saw sounds just like a generic yandere.)
+Genesis Calderón (ZimVader0017) Latley I just hate self-inserts in any fandom. as soon as they say "You can like him/her! thats MY boyfriend/girlfriend" I cringe and just walk away or get away from them.
How messed up must you be to rp shit like that smh I'm in a hetalia community as well and I've seen lots of weird and awesome stuff but never this messed up
I agree with all of this. But this also applies to all fandoms. but the shipping part is probably the biggest issue most fans from fandoms have. example. I am a France and England shipper. my friend a UsUk shipper. she is no longer my friend due to her constant insults about me how stupid I am for shipping those two. so yeah
daxcena welker Yeah, She's in the wrong for insulting you but it's a show and even more specific...an imaginary relationship; is it really something that should contribute to the loss of a friendship? Sometimes we need to take the backseat and avoid discussing things that make our friends feel defensive. Loosing a friend over a ship is stupid. We really hope there were more reasons than just a bloody anime that deteriorated your guys friendship.
Bless you for making this. I've only been in this fandom for about 9 months and I really hated some of these things. When I went to Anime Expo 2014 this year as North Italy ( I spent like $40 on the wig and 120 on the cosplay itself, so I was really proud of it), I got glomped by someone and it really screwed up my curl, and I don't want that to happen to anyone else, no matter what fandom there from. I kind of wish this fandom didn't have this kind of weebish annoying reputation, but videos like this are hopefully going to help change it so we can become better as a fandom~! Thank you so much.
I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm really looking forward to cosplaying as Italy myself, having my money being saved up for months and all. I hope you got your curl back in shape. :(
I cannot cosplay since I am not at the age to get a credit card and my mom thinks it's stupid and I'm not allowed to cosplay, but I'm really thankful that you understand these situations.
Well I tried to cosplay 2p America... But I don't have money. So I worked on it for a whole year with the clothes I do have. I bought a foam bat, I had a white t-shirt, ripped jeans, and my grandfathers leather jacket. My friend and I painted the shirt, bat, even me with red paint she had to look like blood. I used white tape to make the 50 on the back. I say I did pretty damn well.
I agree so much on the agressive shipping. I'm a more casual shipper while my sister is really hardcore and shes has gotten really in my face since I don't ship FruCan.
This is all great, I entered the fandom pretty late (about 3 months ago or so?), so dodged the shipping wars and all that shit. I swear, I love the anime, but the first time I came across pretty intense fans I wanted to leave the fucking fandom. I remembered thinking "What a bunch of insensitive assholes" I got made fun of because of my race, how I like to portray characters in a mature/serious way, and so on. Also I wished you guys mentioned the plethora or horrible ocs, and the characterizing incorrectly. Like, Spain's a pedo, France is a rapist, Prussia is a pervert, Russia is a murdering rapist. Oh, and hating the girls because "They get in the way of my yaoi!"
We are so sorry that you happen to come across those "intense fans," many people who have commented on this video can empathize with you (especially Benjamin Reynor who had their hand-made plushie humped and then thrown into a lake...). We have also come across similar fans and a few of our members have been called out due to their appearance and racial background. We wanted to make sure the video stayed under 10 points because people tend to remember "top 10" lists. We decided to list "characterizing inappropriately" under #4, Taking Insults Too Far. As far as OC's are concerned we didn't want to include that point because we have absolutely no intention of diminishing anyone's creativity; many people also live vicariously through their OC's especially when they are involved in unfavorable situations outside of their computers. Thank-you for mentioning the girls of Hetalia; We have a couple projects on hold for that. - We wish you better experiences with the fandom in the future!
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my comment, I appreciate that. Also my regards to that poor person's who's plushie got humped. Please keep up the amazing work you're great people
***** yeah cause Japan invaded and took over the Philippines during ww2 and they basically made fun of that and how Japan was superior to my race and bullshit like that
I hate it when people say," oh i'm an otaku!1!" I respond with "You do know otaku is a social outcast who everyone shames and is overly obsessed with anime it becomes unhealthy?" And the ALWAYS respond with " No, it's someone who likes anime!1!!" I mean, i looked it up, so i have no clue where their definition came from, but its wrong.
Star girl Well, otaku means geek...Otaku is just an Anime Geek. Weeaboo, however, is someone whose life revolves around anime/japanese culture. ^_^ So, yeah. Otaku aren't "social outcasts who everyone shames and is overly obsessed with anime it becomes unhealthy". And I'm not even sure if some weeaboos are like that. Not to be insulting to any fans of japanese culture, like myself XD. I'm meaning people who talk nonstop abouting, like you said, to the point where it becomes unhealthy. ;3
Cheri NoxPMC You should really look into the history of that word before you choose to argue it - you're right in the sense that it does mean "geek" but the word was created and used originally as a negative term in Japanese culture. It has recently started to evolve into a label which groups and identifies those who like anime and manga, however it's not a title people should wear with pride, it's still considered an embarrassing thing to be labeled as an "okaku." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otaku- "Weeaboo" is a term that didn't stem from Japan, it was actually created through internet culture: www.mymangamarathon.com/2011/05/origin-of-word-weeaboo.html
opperationpecan I know, I know. I wrote this in the morning, so I left out bits or whatever. >_< I was also in a rush so I didn't have time to make clear that I knew the meanings of the words...Eheh, I should have argued it when I got home. Mi dispiace. ;P
opperationpecan Technically, geek also used to be negative (and still is some places) so whether otaku used to be negative or is still seen as negative by some people (who you would most likely not want to associate with anyway) is pretty irrelevant. That being said, I agree that you should noot go around calling yourself otaku unless you're Japanese. It tends to be a very clear symptom of the fetishization of Japanese culture that's rampant in the anime commuity and it's just... really disrespectful.
some people seem to forget that even Japanese people say random English words in their own country too....*sigh* I know it gets annoying when people bombard you and obsessively call you sempai, but there's nothing wrong with using honorifics or calling things "Kawaii" because if you can remember a word from a different language you're bound to use if a lot. When I was in German class I almost always call my parents Mutti and Vatti cause they were fun to say. Call me ignorant but I don't understand what the problem with that is, cause I learned that if you don't practice it you're just gonna forget
I'm part Japanese, and I respect my culture enough to not use random Japanese words like a creepy weeaboo. People who do so are cringeworthy, and need to stop. There's nothing okay with disrespecting someone's language by butchering random words, or using them when you have your own in your own language.
Cons can definitely be really scary. When I went to my first one, I cosplayed as Spain and Lithuania. I was so nervous because of these reasons-I'd seen them happen before. When cosplaying Spain, the first people I ran into were Spain, fem! Spain, and Romano, and they looked amazing. I was so scared when my friend dragged me up to say hello, but it turns out they were really nice. During a photo shoot, we ran into a France, Prussia, and Spain, and they were....err....not nice. They bashed on everyone's ships and hated on everyone who brought up a different anime or manga. They were just AWFUL. When I said hi and that I liked their cosplays, they look down at my feet and said I should have wrapped my legs instead of wearing my boots. That wasn't fair to me, because I can't. Having personally experienced everything on this list, I completely agree. When I saw those Bad Touch Trio cosplayers, I contemplated leaving the fandom. They were even calling Prussia a pervert, France a rapist, and Spain a pedo! Honestly, at that moment, I was disappointed in the fandom before I looked around and realized they were the only three at the WHOLE CON who were bashing. Everywhere else, I saw Hetalians and bronies/pegasisters hanging out, as well as male! Elsa from Frozen and myself, and that's when I realized the Hetalia fandom's getting better. We did a truth or dare group, and we had multiple people from different fandoms join us. I'm glad to say most of them saw this video before the con and realized these things about the fandom and changed for the better, so I'd like to give you my thanks for helping myself and my friends realize what we could do to change the Hetalia fandom for the better. ~Alter
my family hates me cosplaying but i still buy it they say i can't do it because i'm black, the characters i cosplay as are guys, it has to do with hetalia, i have to make it, not buy it, and say people that cosplay only do it for competitions in cosplay-cons, not for fun they hate hetalia because they say it's rape my mom hates the fact that i don't act like a proper teen and say that cosplay is getting in the way
+Ja'hira Hutsell (that pony girl) That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. :/ People do cosplay for fun, not always for competition. Yes, a big part of cosplay is accuracy, but being black or a girl would only get in the way if it were a competition or something where you would have to look exactly like the characters, not when you're doing it just for fun. And what does it matter if you buy things or make them as long as they look nice and fit the costume you're aiming for? I'm sorry, this is so messed up.
MoonSpider14 yea but i try to pay no attention to it, even if they tease me a lot for it or even liking the show, but besides that and other things, they're very nice people
It's IraHut! I cosplay Danmark and I'm only half Danish. I live in America so I don't have his accent thus leading to it being weird but I don't mind. My friend who plays Norge nearly killed me by chocking me with my tie just like in the show.
Oh you poor guy i hope that the attitude of the family at least are now more acceptable towards cosplay and stuff. But props to you that you still do it. I can relate to the skincolour thing im too shy to cosplay aisha/layla who is a black girl fairy but since im white i would have to paint my body to make it more accurate. Still dont have the guts to do it :( But its good that some ppl like you have the guts to do so and enjoy it. I hope you will have an awesome time on your next con
The shippings.......my gosh, that is actually really true. There has been this FrUK and USUK war going on lately....luckily, I don't ship many people at all, so I don't have to even worry about it! Hehehe...But that really has to stop. Also, it is true that fandoms should not hate on each other. It simply is not worth it in the end, right? ^^ just saying I totally agree with those two the most... And that I barely do ships at all which keeps me well protected from such wars! :D
Actually me being the opposite, I pretty much ship everything, so the fights don't even matter to me because usually I'd think "Well hey, there's points on both sides, enough said." But I agree with you that the fighting is pointless and I don't see how the ending will even come out to be... I wish some of us can just learn to mind our own business...
Shipping wars are just for immature toddlers who can't tolerate or understand that people have different opinions to their own. Maybe if they did, the fandoms wouldn't be so screwed up. But, as Sigart said, ship and let ship!
+Coco Alex (Louise) yeah and here I feel like the only person who ships both FrUk and USUK, who respects other peoples ships, who's also in other fandoms and doesn't judge you for your hobbies
+opperationpecan maybe it's explained in the description, but in the video it really comes off as "Ewww someone who tried but still doesn't look really good, quick, let's go away"
with the " half-assed Cosplay" subject, it doesn't really matter wither or not it's decent, or spot on or whatever you want to say about it. what truly matters is that the person has fun wile there in the cosplay. Now this is just my personal option, but you really shouldn't criticize it when you don't know anything about that person. it's just a cosplay and i hate it when people make such a big deal about something as little as that. other than that i mostly agree with all of this
I completely agree with you on the glomping thing! It happened to me twice before! Once I went out to the park in my neighborhood dressed as italy and im talking to romano and doitsu when all of a sudden I get trampled by a random girl screaming "ita-chan!" I landed right on the concrete and sprained my wrist and ankle. I cried....the other time I was dressed as pein from naruto and I was walking to a food stand with deidara, sasori, and konan 'cause we were hungry and all of a sudden I here an annoying squeal (you know the one) and then BAM! Im on the ground! Fangirls REALY need to chill!
I think everyone should watch this, not just people from the Hetalia fandom because all these points are true. Also, out of sheer curiosity, about point 8, would it count if you were cosplaying as Japan?
I admit to the Half-Assed cosplay shit. Sorry about that guys, my parents don't like the idea of me wanting to look like a character even if its for a actual porous and they won't let me buy it. I try my hardest though, I've done pretty well with my Iceland cosplay and my France cosplay almost looks legit except for a few minor details. Again sorry about the Half-Assed Cosplay shit. But realize that some of us work really hard on making our cosplay.
I got to say three thing. For number one. The first thing. ok about the half assed cosplays. Like yeah, it is not cool when you don't even try. However, it is different if you do try and and well it doesn't turn out as good as you thought. Unfotuntely I am not rich and can't really buy cosplay outfits and wigs like I want to, plus it is harder to find some things in plus sizes. a lot o things only come in smaller sizes which really really sucks. I am trying to make up for it though by going to thrift stores to find stuff that I can use, and my gosh. I swear If I knew how to sew I would use it to my advantage. However I do not know how to so I plan to learn how. at some point. kinda hard to learn when your being a college student. Needless to say, it is kinda rude to say something about a person's costume if they are trying. so yeah. there is a difference.2. there is nothing wrong with telling someone about Hetalia but never force it. Sure, I talk about Hetalia. A LOT. and I do tell my friends about it. I do recommended it to them and if they ask what it is about then I will explain just what it is. But I won't force them to like it.. no matter how much I wished that everyone watched the show enjoyed it and that everyone would watch it. I did however manage to introduce it to 7 people and have them like it and are now apart of the fandom, and there is nothing wrong with that.3. Did not know otaku was an insult......... some idiot told me it was a compliment and just simply meant "Fan-Girl" in Japanese and due to it referred to myself as such......wasn't aware it was a bad thing.... now.. .if you excuse me. *rips the label reading Otaku off Water Bottle*
I realize I'm about 6 months late here, but I have a question/comment you don't have to read, I just need to vent. This is why I haven't gone to a convention in 3 years: I'd spent 7 1/2 months saving up for enough money to buy a halfway-decent Roma cosplay because I was 12 and didn't have a job (I can't sew... DX), and I went to Anime North with 10 other people for a group cosplay. We were at a fast food place, I think it was McDonalds ('MURICA MAN), and another group of Hetalia cosplayers just showed up and started asking to play the Pocky game with us. I can't stand kissing people, let alone people I don't even know, so I declined. I had a Dr. Pepper or something, and one of the people in their group "Accidentally" knocked it out of my hand. It spilled down my shirt and ruined the fabric to the point I still can't get it out today. **Inhales** Whatever... I don't even know anymore. XD
:3 I agree with all of these. I just mostly watch Hetalia for the entertainment. But boy, am I gonna struggle in History class (I'll be trying too hard to hold in my laughter)! X3 UPDATE: I've actually been giggling occasionally during History class, I just can't help myself! X3
To some people, yes. However, The origin/creation of the word was intended to be a negative label. It is the equivalent of being called a "geek" or "nerd." Those two North American terms have been transformed into something more positive as well to some people. - Make sure to do your research before you call us out on stuff like this. Also, we read the other comments you posted, don't ignore the intro - "the humor presented in this video is purposely cynical, ironic, and offensive; If you are sensitive to this style of humor turn around..."
the hetalia fandom died down a bit, and its not all like that only certain people. most of which happen to be young or new to anime. i've noticed this. not all of the hetalia fandom is obnoxious
Amelia J. Riley - Tobi's Productions yeah. i went through a phase of being really fucking annoying and cringey in hetalia, before i calmed down and realised i was honestly being a little shit and freaking people out. i've noticed a lot of people do the same, i think its just people who are new. they chill out after a bit... but it still annoys the soul out of me and everyone i know lmao
1. Well excuse me 2. Never 3. Never 4. Never 5. All the time 6. Never 7. Never 8. I love learning other languages and I usually take it seriously 9. Sometimes 10. Never
columBONE omg I know your comment was 2 years ago but same me and my friend had a sleepover and she asked me to show her hetalia now every time we see N&S Italy we fan girl lol
I remember my first anime convention. I was cosplaying as England. Ok, I registered a bit late and I had little time to buy myself a full blown cosplay, but my outfit was still pretty decent. I was so pumped, I even had a shirt with the Union Jack on it, under my green vest. I remember waving my hand to two cosplayers ( Hungary and chibitalia) and of course their cosplay was much better than mine. I didn't do anything offensive. I was still waiting in line for my ticket so I just waved my hand to say " hey! I'm another hetalian!" Not sure if they didn't see me or just wanted to ignore me because of that. I get that some of you are trying really hard to make really cool cosplay and I even myself try to improve my cosplays. But you have to keep in mind that some younger cosplayers are trying to improve too. You can't just snob them because they " didn't try hard enough" .
This reminds me of when i went to a con with my mom ((cuz i need adult supervision cuz im only 9 and plus my mom loves hetalia- okay i stop rambling)) and i was cosplaying as chibi romano and then a random girl just hug me and said "ROMANO MY SENPAI !!" i was so freaked out my mom then shouts at her and pulls me away from here and calls a security and took her away and still this day i how know how to use karate ((and now im 11)) but that day will never be forgotten............*shivers*
I think all the fandom's should get together and make love not war. I don't think you should hate on or make fun of other fandom's, it's just not cool. You should take the feeling's of the people behind the cosplay into consideration. Be nice, find comon intreste's, find thing's to bond over. Make love not war.
All of these are so true omg... I've experienced everything that this video showed and it just makes me shudder. Though the worst experiences I tend to get from other cosplayers is whenever I put on my 2p Italy cosplay.. Apparently people think it's okay for them to come screaming at me for being a ''bloodthirsty piece of shit'' and scaring the normal Italy.. Also I've had a lot of people pushing their friends in Italy cosplays onto me and just going like: ''Here you can harrass this person'' ... Without asking from them that if it's okay nor asking from me...
reading the description I agree also when in a fandom you still need and have manners and respect also sad to see people disrespecting you, your videos are dear to me and sad to see roleplayers not using manners on your videos but anyways your the reason I got inspired to continue cosplaying for I hope things get better :)
Here's a good tip for when your in character: when you find a Russia cosplayer and you have consent to be creepy with their character, be sure to say "Big brother, MARRY ME!" and you will most-definitely be a good Belarus cosplayer :) Make sure you have their consent and you've gotten to know them though, otherwise you may seem creepier than Belarus.
Thank you for making this video! Every Hetalian, both old and new, should see this! I hope the fandom does shape up a bit. I have been in the fandom for a few years, and I'm still hesitant when it comes to interacting with other Hetalians. It's even gotten to the point that my group and I are slightly /afraid/ to wear Hetalia cosplays to any convention, just because of how the fandom behaves. (We have had many unpleasant experiences...) Once again, thank you for making this video!
Thank you for making this video. I've seen videos like this before, and they had really stupid stuff, like if you're cosplaying, you shouldn't speak in an accent. Seriously. So thank you for focusing on the real problems.
Clara Johnson You're Welcome......however, a large part of cosplay involves how well one can mimic their chosen character, so copying a specific accent isn't exactly a bad thing - upon meeting someone new though it's best to introduce yourself as "you" before you go further into character.
You guys seem to forget that these don't only apply to the Hetalia fandom. It can apply to any fandom out there. I mean the glomping, using Japanese honorifics, etc. And saying that it only goes for only the Hetalia fandom is kinda wrong. It also makes me mad, because I mean a Soul Eater cosplayer could randomly glomp an Attack on Titan cosplayer for all you know yet you only blame it on the Hetalia fandom. But I guess I can't make you believe anything. Though you say you're cosplayers yourself, I want you to do one thing. If you ever go anywere dressed up other than Hetalia I want you to see how many people will randomly hug you or talk to you.
We are completely aware that the behavior we have exhibited in the video applies to most fandoms; having said this, WE ARE STRICTLY A HETALIA COSPLAY CHANNEL. - By creating this video we are hoping to reach a certain demographic. We created this video AFTER WE HAD BEEN BULLIED, STALKED AND VERBALLY HARASSED AT CONVENTIONS. - We're not talking out of our asses here, be a little more considerate and do you're research if you're going to target us based on ONE video.
opperationpecan I know your youtube channel is a hetalia cosplay channel. I like your videos and but I'm not trying to target you. It's just how you put the video makes it seem that it's only the hetalia fandom you are talking about.
Bella Bruno Incorrect. We are in fact only addressing Hetalia fans however many of the things mentioned in the video coincidentally apply to most fandoms.
I just want to take a minute to thank you for making this (like many others already have.) I've only joined the fandom a couple months ago and that's when I realized how intensely loyal the fanbase was. And I guess that is a great quality to have, that you can love something so much that you stick together and defend it. But I also realized how crazy some of them could get. With the whole "Taking Insults Too Far" thing, I agree 100%. I mean we should be used to the small things that are talked over in the anime, but I've actually been called a Nazi before because of where I come from. I mean, really? That's a sad part of history we all want to get over. The sad thing is that it has happened more than once. Well enough about that. I'm sorry I kind of ranted. Just thank you, again. This truly needs to be spread around the Hetalia Fandom. Keep it up~
I admit for awhile I was an active roleplayer on some videos (not on this channel but a few select videos) I didn't go out to start roleplaying, it just kind of happened. I stopped roleplaying for awhile for various reasons, but if I do start up again I will do it on the proper blogs or forums. I didn't know it was rude and this video (and the few before it) has created awareness in not only in myself, but I hope a few others. Thanks guys for putting out these statements, if you get any hate, please know that you don't deserve it and you've been really brave and cool!!
This was really good! I'm happy with how you guys put this together! As someone who has been in the fandom since 2008 I'm always happy to see informative videos on etiquette on our community. This was executed well :3
the shipping one reminds me of the time I was cosplaying as Hungary and I kissed my girlfriend who was Canada at a convention and some one got really upset with us because they thought we shipped them
That video is just fantastic, great work. Half-cosplays are okay if you don't the same as the girl in the video, actaully even if she had a full cosplay it woudn't be okay to just start the conversation before asking if they want to talk with her as the characters they are cosplaying at the moment.. And the thing about personal space or something like that also isn't okay, I mean you can't just walk up to a stranger and start a conversation as the characters and touch them and just ughh, you have to ask them first because you are a complete stranger to them x_x
Ships wars are scary Real. Scary. I saw this person say to France and America, "What are you doing? You are supposed to be with England and YOU are supposed to be with England" I ran away, screaming.
Trust me they are worse, MUCH WORSE. I've only run into a few and they usually are online but they are insane and a waste of time, you like this ship and I like this one. It's really that simple, I don't get why people get mad about it.
Agreed. I have half-assed cosplay myself (I had only painted my face grey for Karkat during Halloween, for I did not want to use the grey I currently had), and the results were terrible. I didn't cosplay for a while because of all the looks I was getting. I have also been personally been called a "Weeb" at my school because I had accidentally thrown in a few Japanese words. Yet, when I throw in German or French, no one seems to care. And fandom hate? That, personally, just irritates me. We're all fandoms, why should we hate each-other? I get that some fandoms are weirder than others, (Serriosly, I'm a Homestuck, Hetalian, Demi-god, and a Furry. I should know what _weird_ means.) but why should we hate? It just confuses me... :/
These are so true. It really does bother me when my fandoms (Not just Hetalia) put in too little effort, or too much. The fine line between those is not blurred, so it baffles me why not many see this. Anywho, you were spot on with all you said, and I agree. Great video, guys! I plan on subscribing. :)
I really like that you guys made this video, I am a Hetalia cosplayer and i thought i was the only one who noticed or dealed with some of these things. Specifically the one about treating someone as a cosplayer first and not the character, I've had people act as though I was Germany right away and since I'm rather shy, I'm not good at handling it, it makes me uncomfortable and I feel awkward when it's out of no where. I hope this video and awareness about these problems spread, not just in the Hetalia fandom but in nearly every fandom.
I wasn't sure about watching this, because I have watched other videos under similar titles. I thought that this would just be you guys saying what you hate about the fandom and not saying why, but it wasn't, and it turned it to be pretty helpful as well! Thanks!
A France cosplay i did got bashed because 1.Im a Pegasister 2.Im American so i should be cosplaying as Alfred apparently 3. I wasnt using an accent. 4. I could go on but i prefer not to
i am obsessed with hetalia, and i have seen some pretty creepy stuff that people make hetalia into. gurotalia. just why. anyway, it is sort of true that hetalians are pretty loud and try and force people to watch it, but some hetalians arent like that. i once went full fangirl to one of my friends and im just gonna say....i learned to not do that again. i havent ever encountered 'rude' hetalians, so i dont understand why everyone hates the fandom. sure, we bring hetalia into EVERYTHING but same with supernatural and supernatural is AMAZING
...but that's the thing that bothers people..we bring it into EVERYTHING... - Why is it necessary to follow how other fandoms behave? Just because someone else does it doesn't mean you have to do it too.
its not like im responsible for the entire hetalia fandom, everyone acts differently. all i'm saying is that not everyone in the fandom is like that. people are only focusing on the people who are assholes, and aren't realizing that most of us are nice
Madelyn Dougherty If you're part of the fandom then yes, it is up to you to understand what actions bother people; you can apply the "not all of us.." phrase to almost anything....most of us are probably nicer. (Their not necessarily assholes) As human beings we tend to focus our attention on errors instead of positive aspects. - Haven't you ever come across something you've disliked? How about a certain type of food? If you've tried it in a couple forms and don't like it chances are you wont change your mind the next time it's offered - the same goes for fandoms.
THis was hilarious, and absolutely perfect. This does bring up a lot of issues in -not just Hetalia- but in all fandoms. Obviously some of them are specifically for hetalia, but a lot of these can be used for all fandoms: such as personal space violations, shipping wars, cosplay quality, and talking in character with someone without talking out of character with someone. It is important that everyone in the cosplay community -including myself at times- remembers that, despite the fact that we are extremely excited and passionate about things, we need to take a step back and calm down so we don't become annoying, snobby, or rude to others.
This is really good. In all of the fandoms I'm in, I see all of this stuff(but 1 and 8 are fine because when I'm with my friends I do that all the time) and I just want to say to them "Hey, not everything is about you". Thank you for seeing my side of things.
3:49 Personally, I love it when people come up to me and start talking to the character I'm cosplaying instead of me personally. But I understand how it can be uncomfortable for some.
Thanks for doing this. It's good for people to be aware of these things. I'll be sad to see you go (I know you mentioned you were finishing some final projects for this fandom and then you were done with it). I think you do a great cosplay and I appreciate all the amazing work you've contributed to this fandom. It's a shame some people have to ruin it for the rest of the fans. Good luck and take care!
Thank you so much for making this video! Over time I have noticed these annoying things (like the extreme stereotyping and other people trying to cram another fandom down my throat) and I hoped that someday someone would make an awareness video to show what's ok/polite and what's not ok/not polite and try to get that across some people minds. What I appreciate is that this can also be applied to many other fandoms too! So thank you and if I got the information right, I'm very sad to hear Prussia is leaving but the show must go on! :)
You guys are on point. Reason I left the fandom two years ago. I'm testing the waters now, and based on this video, I like what I'm seeing! Keep making wonderful work.
I find that on most of these topics I can relate to. I hate those things about any fandom, quite frankly. Also, I'm really glad that you guys are trying to continue with the channel because it's one I really enjoy! You guys are awesome, please continue doing what you're doing now! It would be doing a great justice to the world~
Thanks for tips on what NOT to do, considering I'm going to my first con and cosplaying for the first time (Well in Hetalia anyway) I want to make sure I don't make anyone upset. Knowing what makes people upset will help me NOT do those things. (I'm a little scared for the glomping though, considering I'm going as Italy.)
ok so i have a question(s), what if someone's cosplay outfit is a tad bit different than the actual character's outfit? So say like I was to cosplay 2pEngland and everything else is on point but instead of a pink vest I have a purple vest, would that work? As long as people recognize who the character you're cosplaying right?
This video could not be more accurate and hilarious! XD I love the fact that it is focused on Hetalia, but can relate to cosplaying and other animes in general. Amazing video you guys! This made my day. ^.^
Can I just say thank you for this video? I've come across so many people like that in the fandom. That's why while I may be a huge fan of the show and cosplay it, I don't really take part much in the fandom because how it is. I seriously love you guys so much for this video (and all the other videos you put out). So thank you, again c:
Thank you for making a video like this. Seriously. I just passed a year of being in the fandom and to be honest some of this stuff sort of kills me inside.
I totally agree with everything from this video and the ROLEPLAYERS. WE. NEED. TO. TALK. video. I myself have never cosplayed as a Hetalian. I have done a sorta cosplay as Genie from Aladdin and I will admit I probably took it too far. I love Hetalia and wish to meet you guys or other cosplayers because I think you do an awsome job with the outfits, accents, and everything. I love your videos and think they are mostly hilarious. I hope you guys continue to cosplay even though some people do that stuff. Thanks for doing all these amazing videos. I appreciate your hard work.
I can agree with this, and in all honesty I am guilty of number 5, but only with one person. I haven't been in the Hetalia fandom for a while ( mostly because I've been involved in the Homestuck fandom) so I don't know how bad it's gotten up to this point. I remember coming across some pretty dark sides of the Hetalia fandom though. The only thing I can really say is that in ANY FANDOM, you just have have to try not to be part of the bad side. Be part of the good, the accepting, the chill, the understanding side that has some actual common sense.
These are good cosplay guidelines that every cosplayer should go by. I'm glad you are doing things like this instead of going shutting down, thatwould make me depressed and I really don't want to fight Tamaki(ohshc) for the emo corner :)
I'm a girl. I just watch Hetalia. I think it's a cool anime. I draw pictures of the characters from that show (I don't draw ships). Recently, I entered the Hetalia amino, and I'm kinda afraid to go there sometimes, because I'm very afraid of the toxic people and weebs. I would love to go on a convention and cosplay my favourite characters, but I'm too afraid, after I heard about all these bad things that happened to some Hetalia cosplayers. I wish the community was less toxic.
I totally agree~ ! Sadly this occurs in all most fandoms and tbh it sucks alot of ass. But I like this fandom alot! Yes it has its down like all fandoms but I met some of my closest friends with hetalia! Im glad you made this awareness though. This fandom could use some change for the better but nothings perfect c;
Wow. This has spoken to me on a spiritual level. Just about everything you guys mentioned in this video I have seen happen to me and others, all at the same con. I will admit, the Hetalia fandom has "mellowed out" in recent years, I think to a large extent because Homestuck has entered the scene, and because a lot of Hetalia fans have grown up in age and maturity (because a lot of hetalia fans start at a young age). Thank you for posting this video I'm sure many people have benefited from watching it, and I hope you guys stay open
I am very guilty of number five if you mention that you have watched Hetalia. Except I don't talk about how hot they are. I say how it helped me with history. I feel sorry for every person and who mentioned Hetalia around of me or who asked what my favorite anime is.........
kenny wong I'm also guilty of this, and on the same level as you. I only tell certain people about how cute/hot the countries are if they're a close friend. For all people I talk to about Hetalia, I always bring up how I focus much more in my social studies classes. Hopefully we can get over this. If not, we can be Hetalia buddies and rant about it to each other instead! 😂
Since everyone's sharing -though this might be a little off-topic- I don't exactly know why, but whenever I'm searching images related to my favourite animes, when someone even glances at my screen, I sort of freak out and switch to a different tab/ cover my screen.
Reasons why i laughed:
• Eveything is true
It's only funny because it's so true!!!!
Agreed
actually tru tho :"v

I definitely agree.
Aluke F Jones Oh god. O.O I'm scared of this fandom now.
I like the fandom but not the psycho fangirls that do stupid things like that
Sorry for what happened to you. :( that was so stupid and scary
I would have screamed and started crying if that happened to me Jesus fuck-
I know this is pretty late but something similar happened to me.
Omfg I'm dying this is so true
Hetafacts
I know right... It sadness me.
*Shivers*
Matthew Williams hi Canada!
When the warning came up in the beginning when it said 'sense of awareness' I read it as 'sense of awesomeness' 😂
Same I think that's when you know you've been watching too much Hetalia
+Alfred. F Jones it's so true it hurts 😂
Caitlyn Morgan Is this is not Prussia speaking?
Caitlyn Morgan prussia u r tere
04:25 France is just standing in the reflection probably feeling awkward as shit xD
haha Ikr xD
Midnight Glimmer he's stalking
Let him stalk
#loveforfrance
"excessive stereotyping" that's what Hetalia is😂
have you heard of Polandball?
Yeah.. Poalndball and the dark side of the internet can be much worse in racist humor than hetalia...
@@ladyofcaliban5722 Welcome to the future where Countryhumans exist and...yeah...
Reminds me of when I went to a con as Prussia and was groped by random cosplayers... It was very unnecessary and very uncomfortable...
Volley Cat That sounds terrifying 😶 I would turn around and kick someone in the stomach if I was groped--
I've been groped a ton, seeing as I'm a male cosplayer and people always want to know if I'm "a real boy" -_-
1.) Flag ettiquette.
So True
I have had some very cringe worthy moments in the fandom
Michelle Li unless you are Patrick star
How messed up must you be to rp shit like that smh
I'm in a hetalia community as well and I've seen lots of weird and awesome stuff but never this messed up
I agree with all of this.
We really hope there were more reasons than just a bloody anime that deteriorated your guys friendship.
opperationpecan Yeah, out of all the shipping wars in Hetalia, UsUk vs FrUk is the worse.
daxcena welker i ship both
Bless you for making this.
My friend tugged on my curl and screwed it up. Plus, I make the curl on my own hair, so it hurt like hell when she did it. I feel you. ;-;
Yeah my friend tugged on my curl when I was Canada and I had done it with my own hair too. It. Sucked.
I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm really looking forward to cosplaying as Italy myself, having my money being saved up for months and all. I hope you got your curl back in shape. :(
I cannot cosplay since I am not at the age to get a credit card and my mom thinks it's stupid and I'm not allowed to cosplay, but I'm really thankful that you understand these situations.
the awesome pasta lover sorry to hear was it a reveling cosplay? that sucks keep doing what you like
It actually wasn't at all revealing, the only visible skin was my face, neck and hands.
Because the hair was short. And he thought it was kind of like when people dress up in costumes for sex.
TheAwesome Pasta Lover How rude of him to say that. Hopefully, you're okay now?
Well I tried to cosplay 2p America... But I don't have money. So I worked on it for a whole year with the clothes I do have. I bought a foam bat, I had a white t-shirt, ripped jeans, and my grandfathers leather jacket. My friend and I painted the shirt, bat, even me with red paint she had to look like blood. I used white tape to make the 50 on the back.
I say I did pretty damn well.
I agree so much on the agressive shipping. I'm a more casual shipper while my sister is really hardcore and shes has gotten really in my face since I don't ship FruCan.
Same :/
Casey Allison That's a thing?... Wouldn't that be considered incest?..
Not really. They're not related by blood and France was only Canada's "big brother" for a while until Canada was an adult.
FRUK vs usuk shippers are wild.
Please keep up the amazing work you're great people
People like you keep me in the fandom.
***** Well, at least it's not as fucked up as the FNAF fandom. THAT fandom is super toxic.
It has recently started to evolve into a label which groups and identifies those who like anime and manga, however it's not a title people should wear with pride, it's still considered an embarrassing thing to be labeled as an "okaku."
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otaku-
"Weeaboo" is a term that didn't stem from Japan, it was actually created through internet culture:
www.mymangamarathon.com/2011/05/origin-of-word-weeaboo.html
opperationpecan I know, I know.
Star girl im a social outcast acording to my school, and im pretty obsessed with anime but i do not see myself as an otaku tho
some people seem to forget that even Japanese people say random English words in their own country too....*sigh* I know it gets annoying when people bombard you and obsessively call you sempai, but there's nothing wrong with using honorifics or calling things "Kawaii" because if you can remember a word from a different language you're bound to use if a lot. When I was in German class I almost always call my parents Mutti and Vatti cause they were fun to say. Call me ignorant but I don't understand what the problem with that is, cause I learned that if you don't practice it you're just gonna forget
first of all, danke! I completely agree.
As someone who learn japanese myself, those kind of people are annoying :/ it's fine if you want to but don't do it half assed.
~Alter
my family hates me cosplaying but i still buy it
they say i can't do it because i'm black, the characters i cosplay as are guys, it has to do with hetalia, i have to make it, not buy it, and say people that cosplay only do it for competitions in cosplay-cons, not for fun
they hate hetalia because they say it's rape
my mom hates the fact that i don't act like a proper teen and say that cosplay is getting in the way
+Ja'hira Hutsell (that pony girl) That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
MoonSpider14 yea but i try to pay no attention to it, even if they tease me a lot for it or even liking the show, but besides that and other things, they're very nice people
Oh girl! I'm hispanic and I love cosplaying as Germany. So you can imagine how self concious I am about making sure my cosplay is good.
Thank god someone has made this video
You are Prussia.....LET ME LOVE YOU! XD
Actually me being the opposite, I pretty much ship everything, so the fights don't even matter to me because usually I'd think "Well hey, there's points on both sides, enough said."
But I agree with you that the fighting is pointless and I don't see how the ending will even come out to be... I wish some of us can just learn to mind our own business...
Coco Alex Ship and let ship, I say ;)
Shipping wars are just for immature toddlers who can't tolerate or understand that people have different opinions to their own. Maybe if they did, the fandoms wouldn't be so screwed up. But, as Sigart said, ship and let ship!
+Coco Alex (Louise) yeah and here I feel like the only person who ships both FrUk and USUK, who respects other peoples ships, who's also in other fandoms and doesn't judge you for your hobbies
kawaiipumpkin Actually, I ship FrUk and UsUk too. I'm in no position to judge.
The half assed cosplay thing madE MME CRY BECAUSE IM POOOR
Same. Some people really TRY and it's not their fault if they can't afford a wig and the canon outfit. So aren't they allowed to cosplay at all??
+mangoworld read our description section.
.....you also failed to read our description section. would've probably saved you a couple tears
oh WOW, you're the kind of child only a mother could love.
Now this is just my personal option, but you really shouldn't criticize it when you don't know anything about that person. it's just a cosplay and i hate it when people make such a big deal about something as little as that. other than that i mostly agree with all of this
"... Did I hear, 'punish me, Master'?"
*_dYING_*
4:00 omg France wtf are you doing there?! (look in the window )
Yes.
+opperationpecan
XD
found him.
For some reason, I love they way France runs away at 1:19 . It looks so much like the anime, I just don't know...
XD
What a bunch of dicks man. If those guys had enough time to pick on a 12 year old then they honestly have no lives.
opperationpecan Meh. The 12-year-old was stupid enough to go to a con in a 150$ costume, so I can't really blame them 100%. >w
Tippi Pixl
Should it matter if the cosplay is a $150 one or if it was a cheaper one it still wasn't right.
Fuck if that happened to me-- I would play the game but purposely snap the stick before they had a chance to get close, then I would eat it.
:3 I agree with all of these. I just mostly watch Hetalia for the entertainment. But boy, am I gonna struggle in History class (I'll be trying too hard to hold in my laughter)! X3
UPDATE: I've actually been giggling occasionally during History class, I just can't help myself! X3
Respect other people ships people
Improper!
Otaku is not compliment, is mother fuckin pride YO.
To some people, yes. However, The origin/creation of the word was intended to be a negative label. It is the equivalent of being called a "geek" or "nerd."
Those two North American terms have been transformed into something more positive as well to some people.
- Make sure to do your research before you call us out on stuff like this.
Also, we read the other comments you posted, don't ignore the intro - "the humor presented in this video is purposely cynical, ironic, and offensive; If you are sensitive to this style of humor turn around..."
THANK YOU GUYS FOR MAKING THIS! I do agree with many of the things that were said in the video especially fandom hate, and excessive stereotyping.
the hetalia fandom died down a bit, and its not all like that only certain people. most of which happen to be young or new to anime. i've noticed this.
not all of the hetalia fandom is obnoxious
FINALLY. SOMEONE KNOWS WHY OTAKU ISNT A COMPLIMENT
GERMANY × ITALY

Your France cosplay is amazing!
Well I'm always with my friend:
HETALIA
HETALIA
HETALIA
HETALIIAAAAEHSGW
I guess I annoy them but idc HahHHAH
columBONE omg I know your comment was 2 years ago but same me and my friend had a sleepover and she asked me to show her hetalia now every time we see N&S Italy we fan girl lol
Same thay hate me
I remember my first anime convention.
XD "hush now quiet now" fluttershy at the end ^.^ awesome way to explain it
reading the description I agree also when in a fandom you still need and have manners and respect also sad to see people disrespecting you, your videos are dear to me and sad to see roleplayers not using manners on your videos but anyways your the reason I got inspired to continue cosplaying for I hope things get better :)
I agree, I'm actually going to a Con soon as Belarus, I've never cosplayed before, wish me luck.
Best of Luck and Have fun!
Thank you
I'm going to my first cosplay as Belarus also, and I'm a little nervous since I don't know what to expect. Thanks for this video!
Here's a good tip for when your in character: when you find a Russia cosplayer and you have consent to be creepy with their character, be sure to say "Big brother, MARRY ME!" and you will most-definitely be a good Belarus cosplayer :)
Make sure you have their consent and you've gotten to know them though, otherwise you may seem creepier than Belarus.
Thanks for the advice, There weren't any Russias this year but I will use this advice for future cons and cosplay. :D
Clara Johnson You're Welcome......however, a large part of cosplay involves how well one can mimic their chosen character, so copying a specific accent isn't exactly a bad thing - upon meeting someone new though it's best to introduce yourself as "you" before you go further into character.
opperationpecan Very true.
We are completely aware that the behavior we have exhibited in the video applies to most fandoms; having said this,
WE ARE STRICTLY A HETALIA COSPLAY CHANNEL.
They aren't just talking Hetalia fandom, they are talking about all fandom's in general
Bella Bruno Incorrect. We are in fact only addressing Hetalia fans however many of the things mentioned in the video coincidentally apply to most fandoms.
so if i were to cosplay america with jeans, a captain america tshirt, the bomber jacket, wig and glasses its not half assed?
I know its late but i dont think so cause its pretty much America
It’s in character so it works.
Rewatching every opperation vid ;((( I’m so sad it has ended!!
Ships wars are scary
Real. Scary.
I saw this person say to France and America, "What are you doing? You are supposed to be with England and YOU are supposed to be with England"
I ran away, screaming.
beafor i moved i had a friend group that consisted of 3 book nerd 1 fury 2 home stuckers
and for hetalians we all got along great!
kirsten senpai That's awesome! :D
This is so true. No kidding.
At least I don't have to worry about shipping wars... because I ship everything :D
Can we just take a moment to appreciate France's curls?!
fr
I wasn't sure about watching this, because I have watched other videos under similar titles. I thought that this would just be you guys saying what you hate about the fandom and not saying why, but it wasn't, and it turned it to be pretty helpful as well! Thanks!
A France cosplay i did got bashed because
1.Im a Pegasister
2.Im American so i should be cosplaying as Alfred apparently
I admit that I used to be a very intense shipper, but I've changed and now ship everything. It's gr8 m8. I r8 8/8.
I showed this to my mom and she agrees, so do I! 👌👍 Great job!
im in a lot of fandoms man XD i don't personally hate any fandoms
I think the one character that should be allowed to use Japanese honorfixs, and that's Japan
France has beautiful hair~
This is really good. In all of the fandoms I'm in, I see all of this stuff(but 1 and 8 are fine because when I'm with my friends I do that all the time) and I just want to say to them "Hey, not everything is about you". Thank you for seeing my side of things.
3:49
Personally, I love it when people come up to me and start talking to the character I'm cosplaying instead of me personally.
It would be doing a great justice to the world~
I used to quote hetalia at school all the time. I cringe thinking about how weird I was lmao
Annie Stewart Yepp! You're aiming to be recognizable!
I totally agree~ !
Sadly this occurs in all most fandoms and tbh it sucks alot of ass. But I like this fandom alot! Yes it has its down like all fandoms but I met some of my closest friends with hetalia! Im glad you made this awareness though. This fandom could use some change for the better but nothings perfect c;
Thank you for posting this video I'm sure many people have benefited from watching it, and I hope you guys stay open
you can be multiple fandoms! I'm Homestuck and Hetalian!
THANK YOU
Thank you for making this video, you hit the nail on the head. I hope you guys keep making videos.
Miss ChocolateObsession same, like, doNT LOOK AT MY SCREEN ULL MAKE FUN OF ME NO
Offense Defense eXACTLY
That France cosplay is really cute, I'd love to hug you! If you're comfortable with that of course :3
