Him killing Lust is different then with Envy because Mustang was trying to protect Al and Hawkeye while killing Lust. Where as Envy he was doing it for no other reason then pure rage.

And the fact that they were incredibly dangerous and literally did just try to kill Hawkeye.

    1. Yes, Scar gives Envy to Mei Chang. Because she needed it for her mission and Scar cares about her and trusts her. He's trying to let go of his quest for revenge, but he should still kill Envy for what he did? I also think it's pretty funny you keep mentioning how Envy almost killed the most useless, least powerful person in the series, like that means he's "super dangerous" when Mei is one of the STRONGEST people. "Oh, but age!" Yeah, and she's also one of the strongest people around. Not that crazy.
    2. For "some reason Envy doesn't just leave when faced with strong enemies." Almost like his entire character is not wanting to admit he's inferior to humans. A character making a stupid decision IN-CHARACTER is a character flaw, not bad writing. "I know he's egotistical" doesn't begin to cover it. In his mind, a thousand humans working in tandem shouldn't be enough to bridge the gap between him and "lesser beings." You also completely ignore how Envy arrogantly assumes his true form will be an overwhelming advantage like it was with Ed, and he only realizes how outmatched he is when Mustang points out how useless that form is against him.
    3. "Where did Scar talking about how revenge changes you come from!? WTf!?!?!" I mean, Scar is a character that was obsessed with revenge, and he doesn't like watching someone become what he was...So, that's where it came from.
    4. "Then, Hawkeye points a gun at his head and threatens to shoot him??? What!?!?!?!" Earlier in the show, Mustang told Hawkeye to shoot him if he ever takes the wrong path. This scene is her following that request. You point this out later, but then why include this part about it not making sense lol. Because "how is he going off the deep end?" The thing is, Mustang is OBVIOUSLY going down a very dark path, it isn't exactly subtle. He enjoys sadistically torturing Envy and outright looks like a villain while doing it. He targets non-vital areas, like his legs and arms to torture him longer. He burns out his eyes so Envy could feel his "eyes boil." He is LITERALLY shaking with uncontrollable anger. "WHAT is categorically different between him killing Lust and him killing Envy?" It's his reason. There's a difference between killing someone to survive and protect your comrades and torturing someone because they killed your friend.
    5. "I don't feel a single shred of sympathy for this little shit." Okay? Neither do most of the characters. The point is that he's pathetic, it doesn't tell you how to feel about that information.
    6. Nooo, he wasn't just "getting revenge for Havoc." Every shot on Lust was meant to kill. He was protecting everyone and himself, and yes, avenging Havoc in the "I won't let his death be in vain" kind of way, but that's really different than torturing someone to death. It was not, in fact, half as brutal as his attack on Envy. He never boiled Lust's eyes just to hear her scream lol.
    7. "Why is revenge wrong?" He's flying off the deep end and doing something sadistic for his own self-satisfaction.
Also, "Does it push him away from those closest to him, like Hawkeye? Nope! Is it an obsession to the point he can't focus on anything else? Nope!" Literally during the fight: Hawkeye almost dies and Mustang's response is "I told you to stay out of it!"
    8. "Is it because Mustang threatened to burn off Ed's hand for not letting him be the one who kills Envy instead of anyone else?" I mean...Yes? Burning your friend's hand off so you can kill a prisoner with your own two hands is, you know, maybe indicative of him going down a dark path???
Okay, I made it 15 minutes in lol.
