For the haulers, I find it great to use them as overflow jobs. Put hauling post as the lowest priority job, and 10 slots. That way, I never have unemployed beavers, as they become haulers instead. Less micro.
Personally I prefer to make two hauling posts, one is set to high priority and has 2 beavers assigned and the other is lowest priority for overflow. That way I make sure there’s always at least a couple gopher beavers.
I do the same with science buildings once I unlock all the basic necessities. Haulers get the next lowest priority, then builders, but sometimes I build too many builder huts so then they share priority.
I set ONE science building to high priority, and then all others are just low priority so it's a drought-specific job similarly my workers/haulers are also low priority, they'll do it if there's nothing, but there's not a major rush on them obviously gets tweaked IF there's a drought (or no poo water for contamination) so that my beavers can work without worry about the mini-storage of materials being filled while they're pillaging
Since you are doing the line, I think anything outside the actual line should have to be a different District with district crossings, that way it adds to the challenge rather then just being able to use the resources outside the line at a whim.
Suits the dystopian lore of a class of beaver elites living in an exclusive district, while external districts are populated by beavers serfs collecting resources for their overlords.
I always have my sluices to be closed unless there is no water, I then build flood gates above it, this allows to make a reserve of water, they are useful to provide a constant trickle of water to keep crops alive. They also allow you to build filtering systems to stop water flow during bad tides, but you want to do that closer to the source rather than at the exit of your reserve
You can just have slucies set to close after water reaches a high depth, like 0.75, and then have the top of the reservoir with a dam block for overflow
Also he only needs one. Dams and floodgates can be at the top so it overflows but fills as necessary. Then fill with the sluices to just lower than the lower damns. Then it’s entirely automated. The sluice need direct feed access to the bottom of the lower reservoir too. I almost forgot Though we will see how that all turns out for him. Cause he’ll probably never see this 😂
3-5% is honestly fine. the tiny bit of contamination let through will flush out and it wont impact crops. Given the position of the dam, theres a small pocket of water that will be stuck and unable to flush out easily after a bad tide is over, so that will be worse if the sluices are set to 1%. Matt needs to work on either leveeing up the lower section where the first dam was built to make a taller reservoir, or he needs to make that second dam on the bad tide overflow (mentioned at 15:02). Also MATT: the way the dam is set now, it will drain out during a drought. You basically have a filter, not a dam. The sluices need to be on the edge of the waterfall (so the 2 rightmost ones are fine, but the other 4 are not), that way the sluice can properly "read" the depth of the water in the block in front of them, and they can read an infinite depth BELOW them. That way you can have the first checkbox line checked ON. And set to a depth of ~0.5. This will essentially set the sluices to be automatic refillers for you basin below. Kinda like an automatic cat water bowl. During a drought the fix above will work, but during a bad tide, your supply will be contaminated, so really you need to filter out the badwater much earlier near the edge of the map, or I think the map design was intended for you to turn the whole canyon/valley into a reservoir
Only architects micromanage every job instead of using the job priorities. For example you can lower lumberjacks, foresters, more lower scientists, super low haulers, and high prioritize log pumpers. This way when you pause industrial and log pumpers during draught beavers will automatically switch jobs.
Since you have haulers now you should put water tanks next to your houses, the problem with the medium tanks where they are next to the pumps is that beavers have to walk all the way over to them when thirsty and then all the way back to their jobs which can lose beavers a few hr of productivity every day. Haulers will do the leg work so your beavers just have to wake up, take a drink across the road, then off to work.
I still think you have made the line too narrow, when you think about the line and the size of the buildings and the internal walkways it feels like it needs to be 3-5 blocks wider.
Remember, the line doesn’t have straight internal sides, the interior is angled so the lower layers are wider than the upper ones. You could have each layer set one or two units wider from the center than the one below, but you will need to support them.
Dear editor, I kindly request that you modify how the video emphasizes the numbers Matt is talking about. For example, at 17:29 by zooming in on all of the numbers it becomes hard to see which number Matt is talking about. If you instead grabbed the number of beavers and made it bigger proportional to the rest of the screen, it would be easier to read. I think by doing this we can ensure that this is the Best and LONGEST Timberborners season ever!!!!
Hey dude, there's a tech that Zeddic shared a while ago, where you can make suspension bridges to reach portions you normally can't without platforms or stairs. In this case where you wanted to build the levees around the wheels, you could have plopped one bridge down and beavers would build the levee by throwing the mats on the location. Give it a shot if you come across this comment or look up his videos!
An idea for a future season, have a multi-level city like you originally planned, but have water flowing through one of the layers so the lower levels are in constant fear of flooding.
dude you need to build lines with them levees for the power wheels.. the little ones can do up to 300 each if you do like a literal canal for each of those wheels...so the width of the canal is exactly the width of the wheel, no wider...logically then the water flows way quicker in the canals spinning the wheels faster
when poo water is mixed with good water and is only 49% or less it doesn't hurt beavers. You can see that grass dont die when this combined water flows.
You'll save on steel beams. For your sluice & dams, count your water creators, minus 1 seems enough. I just did the map you're on to launching the populator.
I put my sluces on top of my leves to back up the water and left it at 5% contamination and havent had one contaminated beaver. i also damed a few blocks away from the source to divert it off the map. Out going sluce off the map set to close if clean water, and others set to close if contaminated. Once the 'bunghole' was capped i dont even have to worry about the bad tides or drought.
RCE (Matt) my 8 year old heard you say about your beaver not beavering and he said (and I quote) Dad, you wanna know a fact? If your beaver isn’t beavering, it’s dead 🤣🤣
There are doubtless several maps to choose from that are ACTUALLY only 8 tiles or 6 tiles wide or something - you should do one of those, or it's not really a challenge... IMO I've made one myself, actually, so if you want it, I can send it to you
Beginning of video: "We haven't had any incidents" End of video: "it's a drought, we have less than half water... I forgot to turn on the log pumpers....QUICK END VIDEO!"
@OriginalPiMan the funny thing is he probably has already recorded 5 episodes at one time and just breaks it down in editing so he can't even react to our feedback in game
I feel like a opportunity was missed by not measuring power in that game with BP (beaver power) instead of HP since there is a good chance horses are extinct in this game
Shouldn’t the sluice go on top, it won’t be storing water? Well realistically the main dam should be levees, then dam pieces on top. The second dam for bad tide runoff should have sluices to drain it out.
Day 20 of asking Matt's editors to... just kidding, I want to thank you for reacting to my comment about extending the video so that the thumbnails don't obscure the content. And you're doing a great job editing the videos! Cheers! (yeah, I know this video doesn't have this but I presume yesterday's vid was recorded later than this one so the above still stands!)
Is there a way to automatically assign beavers to domiciles closest to their work station? I feel that would streamline the productivity of the Lines workers.
My good sir, why in the world did you put path on top of that house? Could you not have simply placed platforms over top your existing path and connect them to said path with stairs? This could potentially allow you to place 3 (counting the one you built) houses... not this strange two house on top thing you're doing. Lol but I dunno maybe I missed something someplace.
Correct me if I'm wrong but couldn't a hybrid dam be built? Where the sluices do their job as normal but if more water is needed then you can lower the dam manually?

Mangroves glow quicker than pine for the same amount for logs, and you can plant it on the water so it doesn't take space away from oaks
Do they produce sap though for the tappers?

Maybe if the new dam isn't big enough to be a true mega dam, it can be the kilo dam
You should do an episode that limits you to 2 high priority settings at any one time.
Sounds like a normal episode
Matt,
Sluices should be closed on 1% contamination.
Makes sure they close if theres any bit of contamination in the water.

Love timberborner series!! Hate the line!!
Does he put the adorable Paddy into the ads on purpose so we’ll actually watch them?
Yes
Cant wait for the first incident of the season when the badtide comes. That dam and reservoir is not prepped or sealed properly lolol
You should check out the strongest stronghold: Fort Tolukko, Indonesia. Superior engineering at its finest.
Since you have haulers now you should put water tanks next to your houses, the problem with the medium tanks where they are next to the pumps is that beavers have to walk all the way over to them when thirsty and then all the way back to their jobs which can lose beavers a few hr of productivity every day. What is this we you speak of?
I still think you have made the line too narrow, when you think about the line and the size of the buildings and the internal walkways it feels like it needs to be 3-5 blocks wider.
Video 2 of protesting the line for the Beavers sake
21:53 Now that you have platforms you could build some for the path to go over so you could walk across the dam.
Posted just as I sat down for my lunch break, perfect timing!
OldManObserver is either the worst or best name for someone "log pumping!"
Remember, the line doesn’t have straight internal sides, the interior is angled so the lower layers are wider than the upper ones. You could have each layer set one or two units wider from the center than the one below, but you will need to support them.
It saves a lot of space to build the industry on platforms over the water.

A good way to maximize resources gathering is to kee0 the working hours on 24 after a drought just to regain most of the resources lost 🧐
