ANNOUNCEMENT: when there is no electricity trains do not run. PHIL: they walk. Never before have I laughed while watching a train video before, even in my train video when a guy yells out, G'day mate from a steam train, that didn't even make me laugh. but in all seriousness, can't they tow the electrics through with some locomotives?
Sydney Trains Vlogs I always have fun on steam trains. you would think that it might be better to have at least one train on tow, unless its like what always happens with QR when the overhead wires get taken down its always from storm debris
dan b where to start... okay, so for that scenario to work you would have to have locomotives placed at nearly every location on the network and the problem with that is threefold. 1. Not enough locomotives. 2. Not enough drivers. 3. Not enough spare track. And obviously they can’t stable the locomotives in one location because if the electrics are stuck one behind the other, how do you think the locomotives will get past them to tow the first electric? See where I’m going with this? I’m not trying to make you look like an idiot, I’m just trying to explain logically how and why things on suburban rail systems operate the way they do. It would be the same in Sydney as it is in Brisbane. I am a former electric driver in Brisbane and I still work for QR so I know what I’m talking about.
Suppose it's no surprise with all the Sydney Trains being electric that on thunderstorm days, they can get potentially damaged or just not move when the power is cut.
As usual another interesting video. I hope most viewers can understand the logistics in running a railway system especially under adverse conditions. Howard Collins and his staff do a fantastic job. It's a shame that many passengers don't understand the complexity. Admittedly the 'spoke and hub' system remains a weak point.
Don't you believe it! There are people out there to whom that would never have occurred. They will still complain about no service and ask why aren't the trains running.
Yep, you'd be surprised how thick the general public can actually be. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if people actually complained. Sort of like how planes get grounded if there's an active volcano on the route, some slack-jawed yokel will feel personally targeted and demanding an explanation.
I've noticed that too. Before I moved out of Sydney in August 2012 (I live in Perth), trains were pretty badly treated. Almost every train on my line (the now T1 Western Line) were so dirty and trashed. Usually you'd find empty packets of chips, Maccas wrappers, half-filled cups of coffee or spilt drinks or snacks on the floor. Windows would be etched so badly, looking outside could've been considered a luxury and some seats, especially the ones on S, K and unrefurbished T sets were slashed. Nowadays, even the older S and K sets look much, much more appealing and cleaner than they did before 2012.
They're disgusting in reality, I see coffee cups leaving coffee stains and the janitor on picking up *visible* rubbish, and not really cleaning the train, just picking up junk.
Dimensional Explanation, probably yes, because old prototypes were just 4 carriages and had the NSW logo. Besides, I think around 12ish is the legal maximum amount of carriages a passenger train can have here, not quite sure though.
Yes, Waratahs can be coupled, but are never coupled because the trains are permanently 8 car sets, and 8 cars are the maximum Sydney Platforms can hold, before Waratahs, 4+4 cars will make 8 cars.
Also can I point out that City via Regents Park trains are normally City via Granville. But there could be a problem between Cabramatta-Fairfield. So the train goes via Carramar and Regents Park on towards Lidcombe and the City

At 2:03 Phil said "they walk"
ANNOUNCEMENT: when there is no electricity trains do not run.
PHIL: they walk.
Never before have I laughed while watching a train video before, even in my train video when a guy yells out, G'day mate from a steam train, that didn't even make me laugh. but in all seriousness, can't they tow the electrics through with some locomotives?
Lol! :)
Did you have fun on your Steam train trip?
Yeah they could but it would cost Sydney Trains too much.
Sydney Trains Vlogs I always have fun on steam trains. you would think that it might be better to have at least one train on tow, unless its like what always happens with QR when the overhead wires get taken down its always from storm debris
@@thestargateking do you mean queen's land rail

jswaggart01 bruh.....
If there's no power, electric trains could've been towed by diesel locos that's like winding the clock back to pre-electrification days.
Indeed! :)
It seems like rail authorities are lazy
I am from the US and watch your videos
Or diesel/steam trains could replace them. Imagine an endeavour on the bankstown line though!!
No power at all
Suppose it's no surprise with all the Sydney Trains being electric that on thunderstorm days, they can get potentially damaged or just not move when the power is cut.
Yeah thats true.
By storm the power was the out
I remember that day!! We're there any delays on the Trainlink intercity network? Great vlog too
Yeah there were delays on the Central Coast/Newcastle Line at Hawkesbury River.
I got home from work late due to this storm, good catch of this disruption.
It seemed to have cause a lot of chaos.
Yeah trains to Liverpool via Granville at the time had to terminate at Fairfield.

the pillars are for the old holsworthy line
Comment at 2 minutes has to be one of the funniest things I've heard
what a flood of rain. you filmed bridge supports in the river. where did they go?
+Sam Sitar that might be the old moorebank line
I have no idea where the old bridge went.
it is the old holsworthy .line
There is no flood just rain
Great job Phil. Thanks for filming in this weather. Where's all this rain now when we actually need it to combat the drought?
LOL electric trains will not work without electricity were not that dumb
Lol

You have way, way, way too much faith in humanity!
great one and good job
thanks james
Thank you :)
Interesting vlog, great job :)
Thank you :)
The Sydney trains look so clean! Qr trains are so filthy.
I've noticed that too. Before I moved out of Sydney in August 2012 (I live in Perth), trains were pretty badly treated. Almost every train on my line (the now T1 Western Line) were so dirty and trashed. A unrelated question: Can a Waratah be coupled with another Waratah, by that I mean, Is it possible?
Dimensional Explanation, probably yes, because old prototypes were just 4 carriages and had the NSW logo. Besides, I think around 12ish is the legal maximum amount of carriages a passenger train can have here, not quite sure though.

What is an up storage
The dumb thing is that they didn't run the Via Granville ones via Revesby then to Sydenham and then to Birrong
True.
Great film.
Exactly what is "up storage" just curious to find out
Man I lived in Liverpool at the time this was filmed and I was horrified of the storm my power went out and all I could do was read with a flashlight
Hilarious when he said they walk
Guess the livers hated the pools of rain..
Why not trains go down to terminate at glen field and then form a city via revesby train to avoid strikes
Whoaaa that rain is very crazy
lol I was at Westfield Liverpool during the rain :P
Also can I point out that City via Regents Park trains are normally City via Granville. But there could be a problem between Cabramatta-Fairfield. So the train goes via Carramar and Regents Park on towards Lidcombe and the City
The via Regents Park ones went via Granville stopping all to Granville, Lidcombe, Redfern & Central.
How come they don't keep giant batteries on one of the carriages?
Griffin, that'll probably cost 10k+.
At 2:42 k63 kept a horn
Wow i Havent Been there For Years Now I Was Like 8 When i Was There Last Wow Im 13 Now So Shit Cool And Its Sunny Here In Jervis xD
Cool :)
in queensland rail they have 3 car yoyo services from coopers plains to kuraby

what were those support pylons
i was at redfern at that day it was crazy i was soaked cause of the rain
I didn't know there was a big storm. :|
Yeah the storm ripped through Sydney.
The date the video was filmed is in the description.
+Sydney Trains Vlogs Ok thanks for the info.
Great one Phil :)
Thank you :)
they walk Love it
when trains are delayed, cancelled, and new patterns invented who would be the brain behind all these changes?
That was a big storm
I didn't know that there was a yo-yo service
Cool
Why so many k sets and no w sets. Anything to do with the rain?
Griffin if you mean m sets then Idk also w sets are a red rattler set
Lightningdoyle21, smart.
The storm is the only bad thing
