Where does the force of gravity come into play in this formula? Im sure the answer would not be the same if this motion happens in earth vs in the moon.
Arlie G no bro formula for will be slightly different ,and replace g by g/6 since gravity on moon is 1/6 of the earth and also there will be no air resistence

Why at the highest point the vertical component of final velocity is zero ?
Because when a ball is thrown up at the highest point there is a momentary rest at an instant and then it comes down..so v=0m/s
