The Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine was one of the first plug-in hybrid SUVs to go on sale, and while some of its rivals are only just launching, the Swedish carmaker has already delivered a facelift with a bigger battery and up to 28 miles of electric range. Vicky Parrott assesses the new set-up…

I drove one a few months ago and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it is. Excellent quality all round. Smooth drive. The infotainment system takes some getting used to and so does opening the bonnet.
Great review.
Hello, great review I see all your videos!
Please do a review on the new Jaguar F pace 2021 plug in hybrid.
XC90 sales surged by 41% in Nov 2019. Volvo attributes this sales increase to the 2020 refresh. Total Volvo sales surged 18% for Nov in a stagnant US market.
What a monster!
Very nice video
Brilliant review.. I have one of these and love it. 4:20 - "The XC90 is quite a two faced car, you've got the refined comfortable one, and you've got the noisy fun one" - Totally the best statement ever and so true.
can't wait to buy one
I bave one and fully l0aded
Could you review mg zs ev please
We really like your reviews, very honest and accurate
Thank you
Thanks! MG ZS EV review coming soon!
Loved the two faced comment! 😂
Again, beautifully reported. I have subscribed.
Fab...car and driver! 💞
The place looks very similar to where Matt reviews his cars..
It’s Matt’s sister, that’s why.
Everyone uses this track/place nowadays
Im really interested in the cost of charging the car say if i want to save fuel. Anyone has an idea about this, please share.
My rate for electricity is around 10 cents/ kwh. This battery is 11.8 kwh battery so i could charge fully for about $1.20
Also, manual steering wheel column adjustment, for such an expensive car, steering wheel doesn't move automatically for easy entry/exit, or adjustment. Also they screwed up and made captain seats without armrests... what were they thinking? Beautiful car, but somehow missing important stuff.
That is due to safety regulations. Volvo has highest ratings and if an accident happens and the steering wheel is only electric it will make it difficult getting you out.
Great review. I’m a bit apprehensive when it comes to hybrids as the technology is in it’s infancy especially with Volvo and its premium competitors. I know this is an electric car YT, but I would opt for a diesel engine
5 years is not infancy when they spent 6 years in development. Hence why the reliability amongst their recharge T8 has been exceptional.
And what about the washers
Living where I do with very limited EV charging points and a daily commute to somewhere else with very few charging opportunities I need a plugin hybrid with a range of at least 75 miles to at least cover the commute. I can change clients for any business miles once I’ve run out of electric power.
Is there one? I’ve been looking and not found on yet.
The ideal would be an excellent value for money EV with a range of about 300 miles on a PCP between £200 and £300 per month (over as many years as necessary, I keep my cars long term the current record is 16 years :-)
Prius
Tesla
iamomeed , on a PCP of up to £300? What drug are you on?
Fox Logistics, are you having a laugh? The electric range is a paltry 34 miles. About 40 miles less than needed to cope with our situation.
Just sold mine and got the new x5
Xc60 t8 by far the best all round volvo
No USB ports for rear seats
02:37 do you even see over the dashboard?
I didn't understand the "if you can live with lower fuel efficiency", I believe that all models of Volvo X90's have far better fuel efficiency than other mid-sized SUVs, in fact that is one of there strengths.
Test the recent Mercedes Benz GLE hybrid
Wow nice car
Great car
Nice volvo car
The most beautiful suv
Can't i have the t8 without electric?
Check T6 r design
22" alloys!! Good video, getting mine in 2 days!! :)
Good to read that
It's been about 9 months since you wrote that, what do you think of the car? :)
My g was popping what u thinking about the car big man ma big pops is planning to buy one of these cars to drive in da hood yo
Gabriel Claesson can’t fault it, had the Polestar upgrade and it really shifts!! When I want to I can get over 150mpg on my 17 mile commute. Best car I’ve ever driven!🔥🔥
Should be available with 18 inch, vastly superior than silly 22inch which look ridiculous.
This is the T8, right? Where is that crystal gear changer?
Isn't it the inscription Pro which has that? This looks like the r design pro

Volvo Car Vietnam
Try to operate the touchscreens in the Audi and the Range Rover with gloves on and see how that works. In the Volvo that will work because the screens are not reacting to heat unlike every other car brand. Just saying!🤔
That’s because everyone in Scandinavia wears gloves and Volvo designed it to work with gloves on.
20mpg??? Shissssh
i would take the Inscription, spec it with two tone interior color, blond and charcoal. Only then, it's spot-on
I Like it in 5 seaters. Shows 5 Seaters
XC90s don't have 5 seaters, you want to see XC60s and do some reading...clueless
Super stylish and green too
there's nothing green about this. You're just lugging around BOTH drive systems all the time.
Huge SUV for short journeys? Why not just get a smaller engined hatchback?
School runs with multiple children?
2.5 hrs for 21 miles? That makes no sense at all it must be 3kw
It's 3.8 I believe. I think AC home charger is 2.2. So in theory it's 3 hours using 3.8kw wall charger, and 5 hours using AC standard plug socket @ 2.2.
I've grown to like my XC90. It's a shame they will be introducing the 112 mph limit in the newer models. That pretty much excludes them from my list when the time comes to replace my XC90. I don't drive that fast but it's the principal. When I buy anything, I like to be assured that the manufacturer is giving me as much as they can, for the price. If it's simply an electronic switch or binary 01 that needs to be flipped, that is a slap in the face. For that reason, I will never buy a Tesla either.
You don’t need a speed faster than 112mph but out of principal you would not buy again due to the limit? Confusing comment mate. Most new cars have a electronic governed speed limit.
@@vc8160 I don't need a lot of things but I still like them. My house is bigger than it needs to be and my car goes faster than it needs to. Do I really need to voluntarily take CPR classes? No. Do you need a car that does 0-60 in under 8 seconds? No. Anyways, when I buy a product, I like to think that it is the best the manufacturer can give me, for that price-point. I don't see the point in spending money on something that is physically capable yet intentionally neutered. It's one of the reasons I will never buy a Tesla. With no effort at all Tesla can enable the full capacity on the battery with the flip of a 1 and a 0 yet the will only do if they want to and if you give them thousands of more dollars. (of course, we all know Tesla's build quality is garbage too). If Volvo really wants to commit, just remove all of the engines larger than 4 cylinders and offer no superchargers or turbochargers. Make then so they are so slow, they couldn't possibly go 90 MPH. That would seem fitting.
Why would you do with an XC90 size car always short journeys, just for the sake of s crap electric system good for almost nothing?
If I buy this then I want to use electric for occasional short rides to the shops and from there to home. The car should serve me, not the opposite.......
wowwww
£50 for a type 2 cable? where?!
cheap i paid £135 for mine type 2 to type 1 cable
When you're ordering one you can pay £50 for the type 2 cable. It's in the Volvo's configurator.
Very smart driver, smarter than XC90.
68k for a Volvo???
Yes
Fox Logistics rip off
The Infotainment looks quite outdated for the 21th century.
Not one of these reviewers point out that the XC90 plug-in hybrid is actually the only 7-seat plug-in available on the market and has been since 2015! Terrible review, it's like a script is being read. No real mention of real world fuel economy on both plug-in models.
I have one of these. It’s a nice looking car but mpg is NOT Good.
Or you could buy a Tesla and save a shed load of money on fuel, maintenance and road tax. ICE cars are obsolete.
But so badly built
@@richb326 E
Very early examples did have some problems but now the build quality is very good according to Bob Lutz former chairman of GM www.forbes.com/sites/kenkam/2019/06/19/tesla-bear-impressed-with-model-3-build-quality/ They are also built to last 1 million miles unlike ICE cars which fall apart after around 100k.
@@richb326 One of the Big manufacturers like Ford - who's shares are now one digit off junk status? The legacy auto makers are going out of business if they don't fully commit to full BEV electrification. Tesla won't sell out to anyone - why would they? They are years ahead of all the competition.
Martin Woods because they can make more profit from selling batteries to all the major players.
@@richb326 What major players? Tesla is the only major player in the EV space, and they need all their batteries for their own products.
This woman very Tall.UK peoples Like Bigger SUV ? Seems like a Range Rover or BMW X5 Is better?
