Another Editing Video...This from an outdoor session!

  • In this video, I wanted to share how I edit photos...again. However, this is from an outdoor location session, basically so you can see my process is very much the same for both indoor and outdoor edits.
Once again, done in Camera Raw and Photoshop. You'll see that editing the same way consistently has giving me a very consistent look with my images.
I don't use presets, never have. I think I did buy a preset pack years and years ago, then realized that I really needed them in Lr and since I don't use Lr, I kind of wasted some money.
Preset can be good to help you with a starting point in editing, but I firmly believe you should learn to edit your own images so they are unique to you!

Great work. I use Capture One, left LR years ago

Always good stuff. just FYI, Adobe is going to do away with Bridge. LR does exactly the same, plus more. Might want to shift to LR

Seeing that LR is ACR with a dedicated interface, nothing wrong with not using it, but it is convenient for file management, and the integration between LR and PS is fantastic. That said, I always respect people who use what works for them, not what everyone thinks they should do.

Love this! Finally, someone who is unafraid to say they use the 'auto' button. There are a lot of editing snobs out there who seem to look down on anyone using things like auto. My argument is that why wouldn't we use the tech we pay for to help us? I use it just like you - to get in the ballpark.
Also, don't apologise for not being a Lightroom user. Lr is a tool, as is Ps and Camera Raw. I use it, but hey, we're all doing our own little things. I don't exclusively use Lr though, I use Ps often plus Topaz Labs products and recently I've been using Evoto AI and Imagen AI too.

Haha for sure. The Auto tool helps get it in a good spot for the most part. There are times that it’s just completely off. When that happens I just reset it and tweak it on my own.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about Evoto AI. I ought to check it out.

@@J.Allen_Photography I was sceptical and a little resistant to diving into AI, but then I had to accept it's coming, it will become the normality for editing, so why not get started now. The thing about Evoto is the speed at which is is developing and new features are being added.

using the base camera profile is a pro tip to get consistent edits. Even if your photos look great straight out of camera, it is there for a reason. No different than using a base preset. Essentially it is like synching your color and photos out of whatever camera you are using to camera raw for the correct adobe color profile and white balance adjustments for your camera.

I don't use lightroom except for culling in aftershoot if I have a ton of sessions. Camera raw/bridge and lightroom are essentially the same thing put into one interface and given a new name lol. The only difference is, you don't have to move photos from lightroom to photoshop to access photoshop tools, as you can just use the camera raw inside photoshop or bridge from camera to photoshop back and forth. Also, camera raw has the exact same ability to use any presets you might create and save just like lightroom does.
