Portrait Photographer in a Videography world.
I consider myself a Portrait photographer all the way. However, many social media platforms are pushing videos like never before.

Happy Halloween w/ Katalina & some gels and smoke...sort of.
I met with Katalina under a bridge hoping to get some darker tones and some creepy vibes for a fun Halloween shoot. It didn't work at as well as we wanted, but I think we still got some killer shots. I made some mistakes, I didn't know some of my gear as well as I should have, but I also came prepared with a little backup plan just incase I couldn't get what I wanted.
Katalina is incredible in front of the camera. She's a natural at flowing through poses. She's fantastic and hopefully, she'll be featured here more often in the future!

New Lighting Tools & These Beautiful Sisters!!!
มุมมอง 3.7K19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I am so grateful to work with people like Juliana and Drina! That are amazing people and so fun to create with! Do you have people that you get to work with consistently? If not...what's holding you back! Also. In this video I finally announce the two new tools that I've been using for my lighting. A new tripod...I mean light stand...which is actually a modified tripod. As well as this new quic...
Library Shoot w/ an Influencer!!!
มุมมอง 2.2K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Six years ago, when I really wanted to start getting my name out there. I started reaching out to local influencers for photo sessions. I had pretty good luck and responses...actually only one NO, everyone else was a YES. That really helped me and my confidence. Today, I don't really feel the need to reach out to influencers, but when Alexus and I connected on Instagram, we decided to shoot in ...

Super short video this week, but I figured it's a good reminder. Don't go into autopilot while you are shooting! Just because you've been at it a while, doesn't always mean things will be perfect! I've got a couple beautiful photos of Drina here...but they could have been way better...luckily they weren't way worse! Check out the short and sweet video!
One Massive Photo Collab!!! Thank You Ladies!
มุมมอง 2.9Kหลายเดือนก่อน
I have been working with these ladies for months and some, for years. This was a fun opportunity to just all meet up at the Collective Studios downtown San Antonio for a fun and creative collaboration. There is more to portrait photography than just making money. Sure it's nice, but NOTHING beats a fun collaboration! The models are sisters Jackie and Maddie, sisters Juliana and Drina, and Sara....
BTS from the Car Wash Photo session w/ Drina!!! Shot on the Canon R5
มุมมอง 2.7Kหลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, I met with Drina at a local car wash for a fun photoshoot. We shot at 3pm. It was super bright, super hot, and super windy...which you probably know what that means for me! My OSMO Pocket 3 overheated near the end, but I was able to get most of the images and video complete before it quit. Enjoy the photos and subscribe if you haven't already!!
Photography Lighting Techniques - Good, Bad, Better, & Best???
มุมมอง 3.8Kหลายเดือนก่อน
In my today's video, I take Ella out with me to an open field for some Photography lighting techniques...well, she didn't care about that, but she received some nice photos from it! Anyway, I've done it, too many newer photographers do it, but dappled lighting...ugh! It's no good! But how do you avoid it when you're trying to find some shade! This and a couple other ways you can light using God...
Photos w/ the Canon R5mii and the OG!!!

I recently bought the new Canon R5mii and before I sold the R5, I decided to take both out for a photo session. I'm not comparing specs, I'm not talking specs, I just shooting with both and sharing both sets of images so you can see for yourself. I think both cameras are incredible. The two best cameras I've ever owned...now the R5mii being the best I've owned. The OG is no slouch and can easil...
Canon R5mii - My First Session Using the New Camera!!!

I received the camera on Wednesday, unboxed it and set the settings as I felt I wanted them. Then met with Gabriela the next morning to give it a fun little test drive! This isn't a comparison video, a specs video, or anything like that. Just a BTS using the new camera! It's a little different, the menus are a little different, some switches are in new spots and I'm still getting use to it. But...
Canon EOS R - My Final Set of Photos with this camera!!!
มุมมอง 4.6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
I took my Canon EOS R, the first full-frame mirrorless camera from Canon out for one final run! I literally stopped at the local camera shop on my way home and sold it after this session. This isn't a 'Is the R still a good camera in 2024' videos. It's just a last hurrah for me. I do give some of my thoughts on the cons and some pros for the camera and why I think it still have plenty of good w...

Beauty Dish Comparison - White Vs. Silver -- Is there really a difference???
มุมมอง 3.4K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Several weeks ago, I had someone comment whether I preferred using a beauty dish with white or silver for the inner lining. I had never actually tried the silver, so I figured it would be a good opportunity to buy a new beauty dish and test it out! This is the BTS of that comparison. Truthfully, I don't notice too much of a difference. The silvers seems to be a little brighter in some scenarios...

I would have underexposed the background by half a stop to make the subject to stand out more.
@@_xch12i5_6 can definitely do that. I could have underexposed more for a more dramatic effect. I try to make my flash work as natural to the scene as I can in most instances. Thanks for the comment.
What is the purpose for the photoshoot you are doing in this video? Meaning what did you do with the photos from this shoot? Was it for her portfolio? Was it just for fun?
@@SvEnjoyPro it was for TH-cam.
is the Canon R5 and the fast 85mm the only combo you have?
No. But it’s my favorite combo.
You are the best 👍
hermosa
What is the sense of this? Double difuser makes it just a softbox... not a beauty dish at all. Of course then it doesnt make almost any difference all.
I always love your OCF photos-the natty light ones here are 🔥🔥🔥🔥!!!!!
bro i really like your craft
Extremely helpful vid, Jason.
She is my girlfrend
Do you need permit to shoot downtown?
@@Kaydee-p7x I’ve never had to
Great work but I can’t stress enough when doing car wash shoots to bring your own soap and not use the car wash soap. It contains acids that can cause bad skin problems for your models.
Thanks Jason - these workflows are very helpful
what light stand did you use? That looks like a tripod. Brand and model? Looks like a great travel solution
Thanks Jason - this is a great workflow. And for anyone that likes to use LR, all the initial tweaks you made in bridge are essentially what's available in LR - from there you can open into PS for the final edit. I agree... PixImperfect is the guy and thanks for crediting him for the frequency separation. Your edit on the hotspot is superb and I'll be using that, along with your final curves adjustment - finishes off the image beautifully. I'm relly enjoying the content on your channel. All the best 👍
Not sure I've heard you say, why don't you like basic light stands (not c-stand)?
Too many ‘blow overs’. I never remember sandbags or to brace my stand. So the cstand was my best option.
What light stand was this again?
As usual your videos are great. I was wondering though....do you ever photograph males?
@@charlesmoss217 yes, but not very often.
Awesome! Your models are FIRE!
The miracle here is an 'influencer' (ie-pretty girl) even replied to your request. I'm blanket ignored 1000%
@@wildone106 she reached out to me. But I feel you.
Great video, I tend to use a C stand for better lower gravity weight. Also, have you tried the magmod XL? In a windy situation it's great. With Bowens mounts. its a 32inc spread of light.
I have the magmod XL. I like it pretty good. I wish it was a little softer though.
@mjztx I'm sure they will make an Xl ii lol so we will be trapped to buy the next great thing
thank you in all the compositions, I really like those from 11mm, with the reminder of the tree in the background I find it great with the black wall and the graphs and thank you to the models for the "cascades" shots on the window ledge Thank you very nice shooting scene
Really enjoyed. Thanks for sharing.
Praise Jason, you nailed that peek through!
Whew I love this but feel like its so much work carrying around a stand and soft light. Any on camera flash tips? Would that work?
@@kbophoto my on camera flash tip. Take it off the camera. Direct flash doesn’t look good. It’s harsh and did I say it doesn’t look good?
@@J.Allen_Photography Yeah you are definitely right about that!
Thanks! This actually makes sense. Been struggling with this!
great video, thanks for the sendoff:) in your video the text says EF135 at f1.2, im assuming that's a typo?
@@chucknkd typo!
@@J.Allen_Photography not gonna lie, I started googling for an EF 135 mm 1.2 to see how much it was gonna cost me😂

Wow! You’ve lost so much! You look great!
@@prosperity1715 thank you! Down 31 lbs! It feels great!
Is that a lightstand or a modified tripod ?
Modified tripod!
Love the videos, I’m a photographer myself how do you find the models to callab with or pay for ?
This one found me. But over the years I’ve built a small group of models that I enjoy working with and I have a chat group on IG with them.
@@J.Allen_Photography great photos great lighting, is there any chance of any feedback on my photos? Mine are partly callab but they are friends of friends but I could do better as they aren’t actual models, keep up the good work

Hi Jason, when are you more than likely to use a VND in your outdoor portrait work? Is it on days when you don't want to use the shutter to control incoming light or is there a specific reason?
@@davidgibbs1636 it’s more that I feel I’m able to control the look I want more with the nd than with hss. I have just felt comfortable with it and have enjoyed the results
