A lot of behind the scenes information on the book is available in the annotations that Sanderson has on his website. For example he explains that yes the Returned are chosen by the Shard who oversees the world. The Shard’s title is “Endowment”, and while we don’t know the specifics of why she chooses the people she does it is her intervention that causes them to come back with the divine breath.

That’s crazy, I need to read the annotations. Endowment, interesting.

One heartfelt piece of foreshadowing I didn't catch until a second reread, was that earlier on during the festival Lightsong tells Laramar that he should go home and be with his family.....and it says that Laramar gave Lightsong a funny look in response ||not knowing that they are brothers||.. right in the feels....

I bet a lot that happens between them is funny/pointed on a reread

glad you liked it. taking a pause before going into stormlight is a good choice. Still hyped for your predictions there.
A few things you asked were already explained in other comments. So yes, the voice the returned here before coming back is the voice of the shard on nalthis (the planet where this story takes place)
    1. The shard ist called endowment and the vessel is called Edgli. Thats also why there is this flower called Tears of Edgli everywhere in Hallandren.
    2. The returned get one Breath, their "divine breath" and that gives them the fifth hightening immediately.
    3. Yes Denth is in fact a relative of the Idrian Royals. Their royal locks are part of the shape-shifting abilities the returned have. That is why the returned all look like goods - because they subconsciously change their appearance.

Thankyou, I completely ignored the annotations when I finished which is my bad.

I love hearing new perspectives on Warbreaker. This is a special book to me, it’s one of the first Cosmere books I read as well

His release order is the order I've read them, for the most part. I've finally gotten to Tress of the Emerald Sea, The Burning Man, and Yumi and the Nightmare Painter in the past few weeks.

I enjoyed warbreaker when reading it, but i honestly think it might be in the bottom half of his books for me. i think the stormlight stuff is just way better, i like some mistborn books more but they are on a similar level imo. The newer secret project stuff is also great.
Have fun rereading! I am also a huge rereader. Ive started reading new books about half a year ago (all cosmere stuff lol) and im kinda itching to reread some comfy stuff too.
But when you get to the stormlight archive, you will love it! they are truly great. Incredible world, incredible characters

Yay! On Warbreaker verses other books by Brandon, it wasn't my favorite, because I thought some of the characters were over the top silly, still I've read this book multiple times. On re-reading other serier, I definitley think you should throw in other authors besides Brandon Sanderson - take a breather and come back and do Way of Kings- then maybe skip to Elantris, then another book by another author, then the next book in the stormlight archive, something like that. The Stormlight Archive is amazing - but it's LONG and you want to pace yourself so you don't get tired of it. On Sanderson dialog, well I think he'd agree with you on his prose, BUT, as I was reading the 4th Stormlight book, I realized that Brandon had done something remarkable, I was completely sucked in and emotionally attached to his main characters even though each of them had MAJOR personality flaws. His writing style has improved and grown over the years and while his complex plots are in all his books, he is becoming quite remarkable in making a character feel real. Thanks for your readings - looking forward to more.

Denth's hair changed colour because he was an actual returned. They can change form as you saw Vasher do. SO his hair changed colour because he was using his abilities to have a disguise and when he died he reverted to his actual form.

I read this one relatively early. I’d read Elantris and the Mistborn trilogy beforehand. I agree that it’s one of the better ones. I think you’ll like some of Sanderson’s other works as much or more, but no rush getting to them all IMO.
I think it’s good to re-read beloved books sometimes too.

Congrats dude :-) Always follow your heart - re-reading is 100% the best thing in the world, and once you start SA you will be reading it for some time so great call! Yeah Warbreaker is one of my faves, it probably is my fave outside of the Stormlight books tbh. Im with you man, Lightsong is one of his best characters he has created across the entire cosmere, love him, clearly MVP for the book. I get you, im constantly re-reading either Wheel of Time or Dresden files whilst reading something new at the same time as well lol. Currently, doing all 3.

Warbreaker is still enjoyable for e having read all the rest of the cosmere, but largely in part because at this stage it sets up for a nightblood sequel. Also I agree wholeheartedly with the re-reading, as someone who is reading Stormlight Archive now for the 4th time in preparation for book 5. For those videos, maybe layout a first video with what you remember about the book, as best you can your thoughts when you first read it, then just have your re-read and make another video about whether you picked up new things, things you misremembered or maybe liked/disliked more the second time around.

I liked this book, but I actually liked Mistborn a lot more. I know now that Stormlight is awesome, but after reading this book , my expectations for Stormlight went down pretty far. I might read it again at some point, but it isn't something I'm in a rush to do

Warbreaker is such a weird book for me. I know I’m not supposed to like it better than Mistborn trilogy, but for some reason I do! I really enjoyed Well of Ascension, and Warbreaker is more of that political intrigue
