In this short video I will show you how you can trace a photo in Procreate.
Tracing a photo is actually a good exercise, it'll help improve your hand eye coordination and you will learn about anatomy as you go. Tracing is only cheating when you claim to have drawn it by hand. So just go ahead and have fun! It's super relaxing actually.

It's still a hand drawn image. It is not cheating.
IDK why people get hung up on an artist tracing an outline. Its one way that you can enlarge or shrink and item and still maintain correct proportions.
And if you shade it in and add your own touches, you still drew everything that makes it complete.
@@BrendaD72 so is it an issue still if I’m tracing over photos that I’ve taken?
It’s also an underrated skill, being able to make a traced image actually look good.
I exclusively do art for fun in what little spare time I have and although I can do things from scratch, I find I’m using the time better and enjoying it more because the most challenging part is out of the way!

@@GeeWizKatlifa it' not an underrated skill, because almost anyone even people who are not artists can trace and claim to be artists.
An extra tip: If you don't want the image to show up in the timelapse go to the wrench and press add, then swipe right on the insert photo option and you should see insert private photo, then just use the image you saved.

@@bharathkumar-ou5piyea it’s basically just copy and pasting a image only you can see, the Timelapse video won’t see it.
There aren’t any actual rules against cheating in art, except that it’s never OK to deceive people about how a piece was created
Curious how and why you think its not okay to decieve someone about the method of creation? It's still art regardless of how it's been created..
@@robertbrown1338no one is denying that, but lying and saying you handmade a art piece when it’s been traced just seems deceitful. Like your taking more credit then you did and lying about it. But art is art anything you do is still art just don’t lie about how you did it and if you used references or not.

To be fair, there’s so much that can be done after the initial light tracing the tracing is just the outline, but there’s so much more that can be done by the artist.
I tried tracing one of my photos before but didn’t know about all these steps so this is an extremely helpful tutorial. Thank you, Flo!

İ think the best way to get better at art is to trace images! İ did it all the time (and İ still do, for hair and things) and it got me much better than İ was! :D

Another way is to split screen on your iPad, then hold and drag the image directly onto the canvas in Procreate

The tracing shouls be the least of everyones concern. There is still coloring/shading involved that actually takes skill
Fr, everyone being like "anyone can trace" is on some bs. For one thing, no, not everyone can trace. I've seen people say that, then they trace a photo and it looks terrible, then they have no idea why they can't fix it. And I'm just like, "Oh, but I thought you said anyone could do this?🤭"
Also, the outline is not much. You can have a great outline then the whole thing looks like trash in the end after you've tried coloring it because you have no shading, blending, or other skills.

just a reminder that if you are going to post traced drawings for exercise on social media, always ALWAYS credit whoever owns the photo. Even better if you can ask them for permission before posting. The best is to trace/study photos you've taken yourself
And just claiming "found on google/pinterest, ctto" is NOT how you credit someone's photograph 🤦

If you hold the image and drag it into procreate, it will create a canvas the size of your image
I love doing this. I often so fashion images from store websites (for fun not profit obviously). And sometimes i take my own photo and then trace it - and then it's completely my own art

It does. No one listen to these haters saying "It's not real art if you trace". Tracing, coloring, blending, etc-all that takes skill. Other reasons why you should disregard anyone who isn't your actual teacher-I've seen SOOOO many people online claiming that even using a reference at all is "cheating".
