That grill must be after market. Got more of a UK or Aussie Ford look to me. Blue tape bandaid 👌 Nothing sounds like a flat head V8. Quiet up front but a nice exhaust note. I'd be tempted to keep it. But for sure it needs work LOL. Good you found one built out already.
congrats on the new addition to the family! love that you named him after grandpa! I lost both my grandparents this summer, and I miss the heck out of them! love your channel
I couldn't help but stop on your comment...I lost both my grandparents 2 years ago 25 days apart, I know about that experience. Saying goodbye and then saying goodbye again so close together. I have one of the mercurys they owned I still drive. Holidays will be different from now on as you've likely discovered yesterday. 😢❤
My first 3 on the tree was also the first car I ever bought with my own money at 15. It was a beautiful baby blue new paint new tires and flawless blue interior for the grand total of $500 back in 1973. It was a 61 Biscayne 2 door with a 283. One of thr best cars I've ever bought wish I still had it.
My dad and uncle taught me how to drive a 3 on the tree in 1990. The car was my uncle’s 1964 Galaxie 500. It was a 390 without power steering or power brakes. I did fine until I had to turn around at the end of the road. It was all the strength a 10 year old me could muster to turn the wheel at slow speeds. My uncle had three classic cars back then. The Galaxie, a 1965 Barracuda, and a 1968 Coupe Deville convertible. Good memories!
Driving this thing was an absolute blast and John and I are both looking forward to do more with this ol girl. I'd like to say on John's behalf that we're a little upset some of the recorded content was corrupted, but even then this video turned out fantastic. I myself am excited to see what John has in store for the future of this build.
Love it! My first 3 on the tree was a 54 Chevy 210 4 door. Have 2 still that are like that, a 67 Bronco and a 41 Chevy coupe. Love that body style, had a 53 Merc a couple years ago, they have a great look.
Congratulations on the birth of your son, many prayers to you and your family. Here's to many years of happiness. I learned to drive a 3 on the tree on a 60 Ford F250. Yeah that's a very different animal than a normal 4-speed or 5-speed
I learned to drive in a 1953 Ford Customline, 3 on the tree, flathead V8, when I was 12 years old. (Age 76 now). Had to sit on a folded up pillow to see over the steering wheel.
You asked for it. First, congratulations to you and Meghan on the birth of Wayne. The first 3 on the tree I ever drove was a 1960 Vauxhall Victor, followed by a 1964 Chevy Biscayne (Impala?) something like that. I think I win the award for having had the most unusual car with that Vauxhall.
Very good to see you again! Thanks for the intro to Wayne Charles and your wife. You did a good job getting the Ford running. I'm a farm boy so I know about the three on a tree thing. Also no power steering! Again great job, but mostly, so good to see you.
Congratulations on the baby boy and my first 3 on the tree car was a 1956 ford Victoria it was in 1992 I wish I had it back 😢 great old car you have there great price as well.
My grandmother had a 1953 Sunliner. She had bought it new. Stopped driving it in 1970. Put it in storage. She sold it in 1993. It had just less than 29,000 miles. From what I can see on your car It has 1954 taillights and an aftermarket grill. Would have loved to have seen the data plate. (ID plate) The only 3 on the tree I ever drove was my brothers mid 70's Ford Explorer pickup. And that was a bear to drive. Also 1953 was the first year for power steering.
I have a 1953 Ford Customline. Your beastie looks pretty good, it's in much better shape than mine. The grill is incorrect though. 😎 The radio probably needs a new vibrator and a new buffer cap. Easy to repair just replace every electrolytic cap and any interstage cap that is sealed with wax. Less than $20 in parts plus the vibrator. Get the electronic vitrator worth the extra money.
I had a '78 Ford F-150 pickup truck that had a 300 6 cylinder with a 3 on the tree. It was a rust bucket for sure, but it ran like a brand new sewing machine.
1980 ford f100 2wd reg cab long box 300-6 3on the tree!! Manual breaks manual steering. Radio delete and rear bumper delete model. My First truck and still own it!
Not every 6 volt system is positive ground. Just wanted to put that out there. Great work with the video! Also Congrats! The last year American consumers could buy a three-on-the-tree car was 1979, and the last year for trucks was 1987. Cars: The 1979 Nova, Omega, and Phoenix were the last three-on-the-tree cars sold in the United States. Trucks: Chevrolet and GMC pickups and vans had three-on-the-tree setups through 1987, and the last Ford F-series pickups with this type of shifter were sold in 1986. Dodge may have stopped selling three-on-the-tree trucks in 1985.
Don't feel too bad about the 3 on the tree, my sister with her first car wore flip flops. foot slid off the clutch at the wrong time and put the connecting rod thru the side of the block....Dad had to rebuild the engine...Cheers brother....
A few trim levels above my 1952 Ford Mainline coupe sedan. Same engine, with a 3 on the tree. Love to see this content when I go to try to get it running as it's been parked since the mid 1960's.
I have driven a three on the tree, it was a 1976 Chevrolet C10 with a 250 I6. First manual vehicle I successfully drove. As for engines on this, my first thought would be a Ford 4.6 MOD motor, that's what I would do, but it's YOUR car, do what you think is best and that hopped up flat-head sounds super interesting :D
I drove a 47 Plymouth from Pella Iowa to Florida with 3 on the tree and a flathead 6. Fun trip and now both me and the car have moved back home to Sweden
My first three on the tree car I ever got was a 49 Plymouth special deluxe and my second car was a 39 Chevy Master Deluxe with vacuum assisted 3 on the tree shifting. Super cool!
the overdrive handle needs to be pushed in for overdrive to work, when you have the handle pushed in the car will freewheal, no compression to hold you back at about 35 mph if you take your foot off the gas should shift into overdrive. what a koool car! i love it
Leave the wheels and small hubcaps. Paint the wheels fresh the same color. They'll look great. Please don't lower it. It looks so good at stock height. Learn to bleed the brakes and then adjust the brakes until the wheels stop turning and then back off the adjusters until the wheels turn with a very slight drag of the shoes on the drums. You will be amazed how well it stops. I worked in a brake shop back in the early seventies. I know these systems well. Reach out if you need some help. Three-on-the-tree? The first car I drove was a '57 Ford with a 3-speed and overdrive. I had so many three-on-the-tree cars I lost count. I remember seeing Ford Mavericks in the mid-seventies with three-on-the-tree. Right now we have a '66 Dodge Dart with three-on-the-tree.
First 3 on the tree I drove was 50 chevy. Other 3 on the tree that I drove were 55 chevy,57 Chevy,59 Chevy ,65 Chevy , and 66 Ford pick up. All owned by me in my youth. My driver ed car was 59 Chevy 3 on the tree. I also bought 5 cent Musketeer candy bars. I am 73 and still play with old cars. I still prefer manual trans.
Cant believe you scored that honey for a grand, especially with OD. Next get duals and a couple of Smitties mufflers. The body is surprisingly solid. I learned to drive a columbe shift in a 64 Chevy ElCamino. Two Stromberg 97s and a mild cam next. Dont part with that Vicki
Good Job 👍 on getting it running and I agree NOOOOOO frickin LS , if you venture into doing the body there's a channel Oldecarrguy and he does rocker panel repair on Crown Victoria police cars and it would give you an idea on how to do it, Happy for you and your little family beautiful child Till next time My Friend.
Great car to do a build series on, word of advice get yourself a spray can of adhesion promoter and get foil backed sound deadening to do the roof you will thank me.
On checking if the generator is working, use a multimeter to check voltage at the battery. Both before starting and while running. At idle it may not charge very much. It should increase as you rev the engine.
Great car, and i bet your Grandpa loves getting involved and passing on his knowledge :-). Also noticed the Wrigleys Juicy Fruit gum wrapper in the back of the car. When the wind is in the right direction, you can smell when they are making a new batch in the Wrigleys factory here in Plymouth UK :-)
I believe the 1986 Ford F150 was the last vehicle you could get with three on the tree, but only if you ordered it as four on the flour was the factory option for manual transmission
🇺🇸👍 The three musketeer candy bar was sold somewhere between 1968-1970 I was in junior high those years I wrote a report of the changes in size and price of the candy bar. But don’t remember what grade I wrote it in. Good video good luck with the car.
a suggestion put a quart of dura lube in place of 1 quart of oil, it will help clean the internal parts of the engine . I have used it for years & works great for me. I do not have it in my 46 due to the fact of low re built miles . also use 15 40 oil find it with zink in it
Congratulations on your new baby. Blessings to you and Mom. What a fitting name. The legacy lives on.❤❤❤❤
you got it running and driving now you have 16 years to fully restore it for Wayne. He will be the coolest kid in school.
I AGREE 😊

Had a 1986 chevy c10 with 3 on the tree.
Congratulations to you both on a beautiful baby. It's great to see generations working on a project together, that is truly priceless.

You know it's always fun for the guy not getting shocked. congratulations on the baby.
Period correct speed parts and mods for sure, great find as always!
What a nice family ! Congrats from France !
The old girl looks to be in real nice shape. New paint and interior and you are all set for years of enjoyment
Great video and congratulations on the baby boy
Since this is a Crown Victoria I'm sharing this to my Facebook group we celebrate Vic's any Panther or any style or years of Station Wagons.

My first time driving was a 1962 chevy impala 3 on the tree ! $1,000. you got a hell a steal there !
I daily a 78 f150, 300 six cylinder 3 on the tree. She gets 20-23 mpg.
3 on the tree no problem. I drive my 64 Chevy II with that every summer.

Start off making her solid then move from there. Awesome that you're keeping it a flathead. Looking forward to the project
Congratulations on baby Berends

Congrats man.
Great looking Crown Vic
I learned to drive on a 1965 ford f100 three on the tree, manual steering and manual brakes, back then manual shift was more common than automatic

1965 Rambler American. The 4 door model that my in-laws brought brand new in 65. Straight 6 engine.
1984 GMC short box my co-worker owned and then sold to my dad had a 3 on the tree. It was the first and only one I've driven. That was back in 2000

That should be a neat cruiser.
My first three on the tree was a 1978 F100 pickup

Have fun with the flathead Ford, I haven't found the right one yet I'm seriously looking worth every nickel.
Learned 3 on the tree in a red and white 6 cylinder 65 or 66 Bronco when I was 15. In 2001.
79 Chevy Nova was one of the last 3 on the tree manufactured.

Had a 1977 Ford F150 Explorer with 3 on the tree!
My little '83 302 would be perfect for that very cool Ford.
We had a 1976 f150 that had 3 on the tree, engine was the I6 300.
Spins over slow sounds like the tardis headed out to the next adventure with the doctor. 😂

damn good shape for 1000 bucks
My old 1957 Humber 80 had a 4 speed column shift.
Ooh a Humber. Guess I am not the only one that had an unusual car with my Vauxhall.
@@57tagger .... I have a 65 Hillman Super Minx now.
I had a 1965 plymouth belvedere three on the tree that was the best car my mom got it for me and got it for 50.00 buck !!!

I think you bought this right by my house in East Bethel/Oakland Grove.
I recognize the grill.
Yep that’s where I bought it from
Nice car you got there. I’m thinking it’s a contender for power tour
make sure your battery cables are big for 6 volts, they need to be 1/0 or bigger, also make sure all the conections are clean and tight
good car
good car, good video, cute kid. you are doin well john, keep up the good work. congrats on the family.
Thank you so much 😊
My Dad had an Ohio Turnpike foremans truck. A 1974 Ford Ranchero that had a 3 on the tree
1967 Chevy C10 was my 3 on the tree
