I love how European cemeteries allow the greenery to envelope the graves, almost like the dead are being embraced by nature. So much more preferable than the overly manicured memorial parks here in the US (imho). That's probably why I love the cemeteries in my beloved New Orleans so much. Thank you so much for sharing!
I think its more the owners or relatives should tend to them.
@@zaftra The problem being that some of those graves are over 200 years old ....
You would be hard pushed to find a living direct decendant in modern London unfortunately.
That being said, I would class New Orleans "Old Number 1 " as one of the most fascinating gravesites in the world alongside Highgate, and it's a very well kept site.
For sheer breathtaking size, the WW1 and WW2 graves in France are unfortunately mind blowing. As is Arlington.
@@peterbenson2185 I know the reason for it, but it's not just old ones. during my genealogy it was difficult to find graves from the 1800's; they were either just grass or cremation plots. I understand the cremation plots, and removing dangerous or weathered ones, but any other is just criminal to me.
I live in UK next to an old cemetery and I have to persuade them to mow the grass every now and again or else the graves disappear!
Not all european cemeteries, most in austria are trimmed and cut and if your family fails to renew your grave after a certain amount of years, you get chucked into a mass grave
I still can’t believe it when my wife shouted “hey, look who it is” and there were the grim life standing right behind us in the queue. They were the nicest people you could meet. Let us have our picture with them and wrote us a little message with autographs which both are now framed and on our wall. All the best GL, hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.
Grimm and Jessica, you're my heroes. I love that you're covering the best cemetery to represent the Gothic age of Victorian horrors.
Ditto 🪦
man, Bob Hoskins played Smee in "Hook " I love that movie. When Jessica touches his gravestone I can feel his presence. Such a great actor along with Robin Williams as Pan. Two great actors we all lost in this century.
The fondness, sweetness, and respect that Jessica showed at Bob Hoskins grave made me tear up a little. The whole video was very respectful.
I went to Highgate for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I can confirm that the tour and the catacombs are 100% worth it. Such a beautiful graveyard. And Highgate village is a super fancy part of London too - well worth a visit!
Glad you enjoy the UK 😊. I feel very very lucky and proud to be British 🙏❤️🇬🇧. Brilliant people ❤️, just shame about the weather ☔🥶🤧😁
They are the best people. From a Scottie lol
Very somber but yet inspiring. In Philadelphia, I lived near a very old historic cemetery. It had not be funded for decades and the trees literally pushed through the caskets, and pushed the remains out of the ground. To see human bones around the gravesite is something you never forget. It has since been restored, the graves in the overgrown section were moved and it was deemed a registered historic landmark. It's called Greenwood Cemetery.
Brompton Cemetery is equally as beautiful. Set in Chelsea, it’s such quiet oasis. Not many famous people buried there but a great filming location from MI, Sherlock Holmes, Johnny English, Goldeneye and Finding Neverland.
Yep - this is literally on my list of must-sees on my next trip to London ❤ So spooky and atmospheric - truly like you’ve stepped into Victorian and Edwardian England. I think that Lucy in “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” was supposed to be buried there.
You won’t regret it, a life changing experience 🪦
The dedication to getting the most accurate angles as possible is why I love watching these videos.
This video was like walking thru a fairytale with you guys! Absolutely stunning! I play the piano, and have a grand, but I’ve never seen one in a cemetery…too cool!! You guys are the best! The opening shot with Jessica walking is very pretty, she fits in so perfectly with her hair! 🎃💀💚
Your UK tour videos have been outstanding. So informative, creative and the places are fascinating. Wonderful job and so glad your enjoying our tiny island
I’ve been watching you both for a number of years now and am very excited to see you have to come to visit the UK, and Highgate Cemetery in particular! You filmed it so beautifully, as always. I’ve spent a fair bit of time in the cemetery over the years - my great-grandparents are buried in the east cemetery. In all the time I’ve spent there, I’ve had just one strange thing happen. Late one night, my flatmate and I were walking down Swains Lane - the steep road that runs between both cemeteries. It was midnight and we’d been at a pub - I was just twenty at the time. I happened to have my camera on me that night (this was back in the 90’s before smartphones) and when we got to the west gates, we thought it would be cool to have a picture taken standing in front of them. I went and stood right up against the gates while my friend was holding the camera. Suddenly, two guys appeared behind me on the other side of the gates. It was dark, of course, but I could see the one nearest me was wearing what looked to be a tweed jacket that looked worse for wear. The other guy seemed similarly dressed. They both wrapped their hands around the bars of the gate and pressed their heads against the bars before saying, “Don’t worry - we’re not going to molest you.”. I instructed my friend to quickly take the picture, which they posed for alongside me. We both ran down Swains Lane at tremendous speed, terrified! Of course, they could have been pranksters/homeless/whatever but the strange thing is, when the picture was later developed, they don’t appear on it. I’ve since scanned the picture, enhanced it etc. and there is nobody there except me, but we both saw them. Anyway, I hope you both have a lovely time in the UK and I look forward to watching more of your adventures.
The natural greenery and the amount of stunning art in this cemetery is breathtaking! Lovely video!
I love that u went to see Bob, he was a national treasure. Highgate is such a beautiful place, all of the magnificent seven are.
Kensal Green is well worth a visit, really enjoyed walking around there...
The cemetery is beautiful! So much history! I love taking pictures of old churches and graveyards and a little etching from tombstones…Jessica looked so beautiful! Thanks for sharing your adventures! ❤ 🎃
You both give me great joy. Born in February 1980 and it's nice to know that there are still people like you. Thanks for the videos. 😊
Another noteworthy grave, difficult to find if you don't know his birth name is that of George Orwell. You can find his resting place in All Saints church graveyard in Sutton Courtenay. People leave coins on his tombstone. As a fan of his writing I was surprised ow moved I was visiting it this year.
Great series Mr & Mrs Grimm.
Highgate cemetary is one of the coolest spots in London. I love the parakeets calling in the background of this film.
I'll try not to be a chatterbox here, but as a Brit who has spent most of my life, well, the whole 'work, work, work' thing. You guys have really inspired me to get out and see my own backyard, so much so that I'll be on the Catacombs tour at Highgate Cemetery later this month. Thank you for giving me that inspiration and making me realise how awesome my Country is, I've always been fixated by Hollywood which is how I found you all.
Two suggestions:
IMAX cinema, Waterloo (biggest screen in the UK and maybe Europe) & The Cinema Museum, near Elephant & Castle. The Cinema Museum will be showing Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell (Hammer Horror, 1974) in 16mm on the 22nd of October with a live conversation with Madeline Smith. An awesome event for anyone that reads this who may be able to go.
Thank you for the heads up…and I am happy we can be of some inspiration. Truly is the best compliment.
You two are awesome. So professional and well educated on everything you do. Your videos are better than any Cable Channel documentaries. I love you two......keep it coming!
The round, thin headstones are amazing to me. So ancient looking and mysterious. England, specially the ole villages, has this deep spiritual awakening.
This is a beautiful cemetery! It looks so peaceful to spend there and walking around in cemetery. I will always remember for those who we have lost. Thank you for sharing us as always. Happy Halloween!☺️🙏🏻🎃👻❤️💚🖤
There are so many beautiful cemeteries! They are like historical sites, beautifully done to always remember and never forget those who we have lost. I love the details of the grounds of this place, could spend all day long there and bask in its beauty for sure! Thank you for showing us around besties! ❤️🦇💚🥰👻🎃
Really happy you enjoyed it Kylee
@@grimmlifecollective always do my besties! You make all of my days better!!! 💚🦇👻🥰

I've been to England twice, and never made it to that cemetary. THANK YOU FOR SHOWING IT!!! How beautiful!✌️(the answer to life is 42)
Thanks for another great vid Michael & Jessica, im from the UK but never been to Highgate cemetary yet. I must go. Awesome graves here. nice to see you in the UK. Happy Halloween.
I grew up in Highgate! Was born not far from the cemetery. We are really enjoying your videos of your trip over here, your excitement is genuinely infectious!
An excellent video as always, really enjoyed it guys! Highgate is such an incredibly gothic, ornate and wonderfully atmospheric cemetery, you can almost feel ghosts, and spirits all over the place. Another great cemetery well worth visiting, with a Vincent Price connection is Kensal Green, in NW London. Major scenes from the classic "Theatre Of Blood" were shot there. I love all the brilliant London locations used for that movie, and they're all easily found around the city. Happy Halloween guys, enjoy your trip!
@chancebrown614 Thanks for the info. 'Theatre of Blood' is superb.
@@crose7412 It's one of my favourite films, just brilliant!
Bob Fuest, the director of The Abominable Dr. Phibes, was one of my teachers at the film school. I don't remember what he taught us but I remember him being an interesting character. By the way, Brompton Cemetery is another great one.
Omg omg omfg.....this is where I will be buried. This is my heaven. 💗
Thank you so much for showing us George Michael's resting place. He holds a special place in my heart. His singing voice is one of the very few that makes me cry. ❤
Me too! ❤💔😥
The atmosphere of that place is off the charts
Thank you for sharing this cemetery online. Absolutely stunning and so many beautiful details in the actual cemetery. May all those who are deceased rest in peace. I love seeing how much nature has grown all over the graves of the deceased.
Good morning from Gatlinburg TN Smoky Mountains Guys...can't wait to watch later today after work 🎃🌄🍁
I love walking through big, beautiful cemeteries - and the older, and more unusual and elaborate the monuments, the better. Another amazing adventure courtesy of Michael and Jessica!! Thank you, guys!! 💚🪦💚
What an amazing and beautiful cemetery! Awesome way to start my day with a dose of Grimmlife! Thanks for sharing as always.
Anytime Chuck. Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for watching.
beautiful gothic cemetery, luv how all the plant life grows throughout its like a peaceful garden 🤩
I have always been a Vincent Price fan and had surprisingly never heard of Dr. Phibes until my wife showed it to me about 6 years ago and it instantly shot to my top 3 favorite Vincent Price films. So cool you guys visited this location.
Was he English
No he was born in St. Louis.
Cool (ish) facts about the three most famous hooror actors of the 1950s, 60s, 70s.
Vincent Price, birthday 27th May.
Christopher Lee, birthday 27th May.
Peter Cushing, birthday 26th May.
Think there are a couple of films which have all three actors in from the early 70s.
Great video. I love history, which is why I love your videos so much. Obviously, Highgate Cemetery has lots of history. You do a nice job of showing the cemetery and explaining it’s history. Oh, and I love Dr. Phibes, too, so that was a big bonus! Thanks again!
This really is the most fabulous cemetery ever.
Highgate. Exceptional and beautiful. You couldn't drag me back in there.
I just love how respectful you both are to the dead, no matter who they are, when visiting the cemeterys.
I absolutely LOVE graves! They are works of art for the spirits as far as Im concerned. Thank you for your channel and sharing these beautiful sites.
I think England would be the perfect home for you both someday
It’s really nice to see the joy and enthusiasm you have in these videos, especially doing the things you love to do. London is definitely rich with horror and true crime locations, looking forward to the next video. Thank you again for letting us come along on your journey. 😊
Highgate Cemetery is beautiful and has a lot of character. 42: The answer to life, the universe and everything lol. Good job Grimms!
Really appreciate these videos and when you're able to get news clips about the actors death- helps revisit their works and accomplishments. Completely forgot Hoskins was in Hook! Looked like a beautiful cemetery too
I'm going to London in 8 days and I'm so exited since I planned to visit highgate! I'm very happy you mentioned the tour and I just checked and there are still tickets available! Your video made me even more exited about my visit! Thank you!!
I went there today with a friend. Its such a beautiful and peaceful resting place. Wanted to visit for ages as live close to London and your video inspired me to finally go. I hope you are enjoying the UK and the lovely weather we are having.
Highgate is an incredible cemetery, I’d love to visit one day! Thanks for this awesome video.
Being English your used to this weather😂, born and raised london girl Chelsea , love you guys being here❤

Always do a great video on utube wherever you are America or England 🇬🇧
You guys are just the best! I'm a new subscriber and I'm now binge-watching your entire Channel as much as I can. I worked with Vincent Price in 1985 while he was doing voice overs for WGBH Boston's Mystery program. The first time I got to sit down and talk with him I asked him what his favourite movies were that he made. Without hesitation, he said the Dr. Phibes movies. He said, with a wonderful laugh, that he loved being bad and felt he was never more so than in those films! What a charming, funny, smart, lovely man he was. 💜💜💜 Thank you, also, for being so respectful in everything you do.
I’m kind of shocked you guys just did a quick little glance at Malcolm McLaren’s grave - guy created the aesthetic of punk rock, cast, managed and created the Sex Pistols, created new wave music, partner of vivienne westwood, discovered Adam Ant - you could’ve done a whole video just on him
I know :/ He's also the one that brought Hip Hop to the masses here in the States too. The good fun OG Hip Hop. Man was a legend!
i was just going to say this... i was a little taken aback by it, honestly especially considering the psychobilly/goth etc all of which stemmed out of punk rock as well. I'm just hoping that maaaaaybe, maybe... there's a video like that coming and were just being fooled?
you forgot the New York Dolls who the Sex Pistols were modeled after.
When i saw you were both in England, i thought you must make a trip to Highgate Cemetery. So glad you made that trip.
Great video! One of the graves you passed by was that of Tom Sayers, famous prize fighter from the early 1800's. His grave was noted because of a likeness of his dog, a mastiff named Lion, guards his grave. I am glad you had a chance to film it. Keep up the great work!
😍 This cemetery is absolutely beautiful. 🪦🌿 The English really know how to impress with their architecture, talent, creativity and landscaping. I love these videos from your time in England! ❤🏴

The day he died I cried. Seeing the filming locations for different movies that was awesome. Thank you again for doing this
Excelente recorrido.
Saludos y feliz Halloween.
Oh yes would so love to visit this cemetery, so photogenic and picturesque
My fav horror movies are the ones I grew up with and still love the hammer horror, this cemetery in London is something straight from a gothic vampire movie, but hope you get to see the ones in Scotland aswell and wrap up warm brrrr in scotland😅❤

Oh He'll lol no pun intended. You were just 7 mins away from me and where I was working when you visited my fave Park Waterlow Park and Cemetery Highgate. Wish I could of popped down to see you both if I had known. Taste The Blood Of Dracula and From Beyond The Grave and The Crimes of Grindlewald from Fantastic Beasts was all filmed in the old part of the Cemetery. George Michael is buried in there aswell. I'll be no doubt hanging around that part of North London again tomorrow on Saturday. Lovely video guys and so glad your enjoying your vacation. X
Dude, you are so good at this. Your voice tone and cadence is perfect for narration !!

Your favorite place on earth!? NUTS
If youve never seen the 1973 French movie “The Iron Rose”, you must. Most of it takes place in the creepiest cemetery you’ll ever see. And its a great movie! Psychological horror.
I’m so happy your enjoying the uk so happy your here ❤❤❤❤❤ we love you In the uk ❤
Beyond beautiful. What a breathtaking sight to view in person. You can just feel the rich history.

Yes, at long last! The Grimm Life Highgate video! I'll be watching this on my phone a bit during my lunch break, but I have to see it on my TV to it justice, like all Grimm Life adventures.
Highgate as I've seen in other travel videos, really is one of those cemeteries you should see before you end up in one.
WOW I love cemeteries and this one is spectacular!!
Charroits of fire was filmed partly in Bebington, Wirral at The Oval Leisure Centre. I used to run races there on sports day with my school.
OMG!!! I NEVER imagined that a place so cool yet morbid existed!! Too freezing cool.
Never grim when the grimms are about happy halloween 🎃 guys have fun overseas
