Thank you for this I wanted to learn how to solve quadratic equations with my TI-84 plus CE without programming. I'm from MINNESOTA as well. I'm going to Metro State right now taking Math 098 in prep for College Algebra. I'm planning to check out your other videos too.
My son is a high school freshman taking Algebra 1 & geometry. We purchased a TI-84 Plus CE. I see there are a number of downloadable apps available. Since you teach high school math I'll ask you. Which apps if any should we allow him to download and install? Thanks
Hi Dave, as a rule of thumb, once a person really understand the "mechanics" of a math operation, then it's fine for them to use technology to move past the manual labor. For example, I know how to multiply three digit numbers, but I never do it anymore. It's a waste of time, so I use a calculator. But I would not allow a elementary student to do the same until they know how it works, on paper. Same applies to Algebra. If he truly gets it, then it's time to use an app.
The easy way to clear a variable on the TI-84 is to assign a zero, like this 0 → A. Another way to clear a variable, press 2nd, + key, this goes to the MEMORY menu, choose option 2, choose Real… and then view the list of variables that you want to clear, letters A thru Z. However, this action does the same thing as set it to zero, and it takes more steps.
is the actual result 0?? it could be that your curve is centered in the origin (0), which sounds more likely to me than having something wrong on what you wrote and the calculator giving you an actual result instead of an error message. Either way, if you can, i would suggest going through the video and making sure you're pressing the right keys with each keystroke, and try to figure out if something is wrong.

You're welcome! Sorry for the late reply. I attended Metrostate, and it was a good experience.
Great video! You explained it really good.

Hi Mr Borne, may I know which software (with the calculator and display) did you use to create the video?
The software is from Texas Instruments, and is called "TI-Smartview"
How do I clear the varibles

thank you so much!!!
Thank you! You rock!
I just use a program; it's a lot easier.
I followed your steps but got 0 on both answers
