I am not a Chinese or Chinese descend. I have met a young couple in Thailand recently. They were from US and flow to Singapore and they were traveling from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and then to Cambodia and Vietnam and before going back to US. We have happened to have a casual friendly conversation and I have asked them since they are so near to China, why not go to China just for a few days to see China. I told them China is very interesting. But I was surprised of what they told me. They said according to all their media reports in US and advice by their government and many other people. They were advice and told not to travel to China. Even their parents don't allow them to go to China. They were told China is not a safe country to travel. Very dirty, poor rundown infrastructures, poor transportation system, polluted, homeless people are everywhere waiting to rob tourists are common even in broad daylight. Chances of been detained for no reason by the Communist government is very high. Because China is an authoritarian state and all foreign visitors are monitored by thousands of cameras everywhere and every minute where foreign visitors go. Foreign visitors from western countries can be detained for months or even years for no reason. All these is what they know about China. The couple is like below 25 years of age and already so badly brainwashed by their government and controlled media. This is really sad.
Mate, I love it. "China builds it in REAL life, USA puts it in Movies". How true is that!!!!I went on the Shanghai metro in 2018, and I was astounded. The network was so vast and deep down, you could take journeys of escalators going down or up, especially in an interchange station. Thousands would be on their phones because wifi was already widespread underground. Everything was so seemless and in order, and was very cheap. I’ve travelled on the Shanghai maglev and China’s high speed rail system. It is world class! The Chinese government doesnt build these transportation for profiting from the Chinese population but to move forward the development of the country as a whole. National development and prosperity started with transportation and infrastructures, and the Chinese know it.Irrespective of what you say about freedom and human rights, that's the type of government for the people. A government that looks after the well being of its own people and not the opposite as the west meddling and killing of people of other nations.
You are NOT brainwashed by western medias. Welcome to visit China again. You can go to chongqing, a magic "4D" city. Also, I recommend you to visit Beijing, NanJing, Xi'an, XinJiang, Tibet(xizang), and Harbin
Many "China expert" from the west have criticised China's metro system being a "massive failure" or "a system will collapse on its own" because of negative financial profit; but isn't it the purpose of having government to serve the society? People can enjoy the service that vastly improved daily life, in relatively low cost from personal pocket. Maybe it's hard for the "free people" to imagine having a trustworthy government, yet somehow believe their choice of vote actually matters.
I lived in Washington DC where it costs $5 to go from the suburbs into the city and $5 to go back. $10 a day to go to work and back home. And often the suburbs are just a few miles from the city. The buses in China cost 1.4 RMB which is about 15 cents if you use a bus card. Living in China is much more affordable, and the quality of public transportation in China far exceeds the US.
but you don't mention the salary in China.5 dollars for US citizens equals 5RMB for Chinese citizens. in China, if you use the metro, the cost is about 5RMB per way, 10RMB a day to go to work and back home.
@@pipiqiqi4010 That's a good point about the cost of living compared to salary. I think it would take a long time to fully compare everything. I'll ask around and see how the cost of the Metro is viewed. It can't be too prohibitive since so many ppl take the subway. Most of my subway journeys cost around 3 RMB which is about 50 cents.
