After M. Dupre, Jean G. is without a doubt at this time, the greatest organist in the world. There's is no educated opinion that can doubt it. However, there is this beautiful organist called Cameron Carpenter who not only has perfect pitch and perfect memory and pedal technique the likes of which the whole of the Julliard School of Music has never seen... is now... alive on earth. He's about 34. He's inventing new kinds of electro-anolog voices with extended pedal notes... new speakers locations and entire orchestras... at his finger tips. Watch out. !! This young Master lacks nothing... with the possible exception of Romance/Love in his heart. He's so fascinated with his own tremendous abilities, I don't know wethers or not he's had time to explore the 'human' experience. I pray for him... that he may not loose touch with the human condition. CVD
And some without it - Schumann for example - were great musicians. The only purpose it's served me is to tell that a piano I had to play was almost a semitone down in pitch, which upset me. Without perfect pitch that would most probably not have mattered. It disturbed me that Richter (on youtube) played the Schubert G flat impromptu in G major. Not always an advantage! Relative pitch is essential.
Jean Guillou... could very easily be considered the GREATEST organist in the world...? And if not THEE... then one... I got to play this instrument with him watching... and the console in the nave of the church... I played the Durufle Toccata... and got a "bravo" from him...
That was actually partly taken from the piano version. Liszt probably thought that the piano version is too pianistic for the organ. So he didn't entirely make it up.
No, sorry biblsoz, Notre Dame has "only" 110 stops and 151 ranks but as the keyboards have 56 keys and the pedal 30 (Cavaillé-Coll division) and 32 (Boisseau division) the organ has less pipes than St Eustache (around 7500)
The order of the biggest organs in paris goes like this: St. Eustach (biggest organ in France I think) Notre Dame de Paris. St. Sulpice. I am 99.99999....% sure of this. Hope this helps

Dude, some people with perfect pitch are horrible musicians! lol!

This can't be all in 4:05.
Where will the rest be?
Wouldn't it be great to attend one of his master classes??
I was thinking of Dr Mabuse during the first seconds, and then when I saw him from behind, of Nosferatu !!
are stops the knobs organists pull to alter the sound of the pipes?
yes, the organist uses them to change registers, so the sound can be different for each piece he plays
WOW!!
What a great organist! Isn't this the biggest organ in France?
Why no information, bib?
Where?
When?
That was actually partly taken from the piano version. Liszt probably thought that the piano version is too pianistic for the organ. So he didn't entirely make it up.
What is the Opus of this Fantasia??
Who played it????
Yes, German B is Bb. H is B-natural
I am writing a fugue based upon REGER
Maurice Duruflé's "ALAIN" is a beautiful subject.

Notre Dame has 115 stops now and practically 8000 pipes.... The largest in France....
this is what the music should sound if there was a hell and there was music in it.

@Guilloufan sorry you're wrong, you have to look at the number of ranks.
Where is it recorded?
Leendert Cordemans Paris - Saint Eustache
Thanks you for your information.
hahaha
It was all rather "impromptu"... And it was in January or early February.... the place was freezing...!!!
B-A-C-H, or, in English Bb-A-C-B
Liszt is rolling over in his grave! I give Guillou credit for creativity but I don't like this rendition.
Nerd!
ha hes trying to copy liszts style!
