Thank you for taking a moment to show how you prepare a feather. I have watched in amazement as you command materials to do your bidding. Such an insight into how you do it. Just saying..what may seem trivial to you in materials preparation and handling is often a wonderful thing for me to see at my tying level. Thank you for your inspiration
Hi Davie I tied this fly some 10 years ago and it's done me all over Scotland and Ireland. A real pleasure seeing it tied again. Thanks, stay safe Big Davie.
Beautiful fly Davie! The "Vulturine guineafowl" I looked up because I had never heard of this bird and found it to be very interesting. Thanks so much fro sharing this pattern and information! All the best!
Fantastic looking fly Davie. Looks like a must for Outer Hebrides. I did watch your earlier video on this fly a few months ago and have tried to replicate as best I can using 2 x black hackles and 2 x trimmed down white hackles for the wing. Ive been searching the internet since for the feathers to no avail. Thanks for the tips. 👍👏🎣
I was just watching the original last night! As I don’t have any vulturine GF, I used a couple of jungle cock feathers (from above the eye feathers) with a central longer grizzle for the tail and a blue peacock neck for the hackle (#10 B180 hook). Nowhere near as good as yours, but a very pleasing poor man’s elver. Thanks again for the updated tying.
Hi Steve, I've tyed a few of these flies with the jungle cock side feathers myself and they did catch for friends that use the original Blue Elver, I'm glad you liked the new video.. All the very best Davie..
A really very very beautiful fly, as I like them and which does not mismatch in a fly box! The only problem is finding the vulturine guinea fowl feathers that; it must be admitted, is not a common bird in our regions! As for the jungle cock, my meager retirement does not allow me to invest in a very good quality neck, so I do without it. Bravo again for this assembly. All the best. Y.S.
This fly was invented by Arthur Ransome to suggest an elver. He said of the Jungle Cock, "but though these eyes are very visible in the water and may call attention to the fly, I think their chief use is to please the fisherman."
Brilliant sea trout fly Davie, problem is do you fish it or frame it lol lol its a stunning dressing, I have a few in my box and I've put them on the top to fish them during the week in the saltwater 👍👍👌👌
Fantastic fly. I believe the original Arthur Ransom fly didn't have jungle cock but it certainly looks better with it. I've caught salmon on it and watched their backs come out of the water to chase after it. Dyed blue badger is equally as good, as a substitute to the almost unobtainable vulturine galina. Pure class.
Hi Tammy, I have a video on how I work the wax I use and prepare it for using so I attached it for you to see although I would recommend that you do a piece at a time rather than doing the whole disc as it will last far longer for you.th-cam.com/video/IN4N92G14Xg/w-d-xo.html All the very best Davie...
Hi Dan, It's a Law vise but unfortunately it's no longer being made, I have a video about it so I have attached a link for you to see..They do come up for sale from time to time mostly on Ebay but they can go for crazy money.. th-cam.com/video/3P6MZIrpGG0/w-d-xo.html All the very best Davie..
Hi Kieran, I bought them at a fly fair a few years ago and these were the last two I had, I rarely tye this fly because they can be hard to find especially the long ones.. All the very best Davie
Nothing like waking up to see you tie another elegant beauty. Thanks Davie
Beautiful tying, you get the proportions on all your flies spot on which is the sign of a master tyer!

What a beautiful pattern...one I don't think sea trout would get a chance at. 😎 Thank you for sharing, Mr McPhail.
What a striking fly! Very impressive.. Thanks, Davie
Thats a beauty of a fly! I like those Elver feathers!

Wonderful bait Davie, you're the master. I just don't have these materials here in Brazil.

What a beautiful fly. Hoping I can eventually approximate the fly tying I’m learning here!
I'd be terrified to use that . Glass case job ! :-)
A beauty fur sure! Thanx Davey.
Fly tying at it’s very best, as usual. Thanks Davie. Any chance of a floating snail pattern sometime??? Cheers. English Dave.
That's a beautiful looking fly

Excellent
Lovely fly Davie. Can I ask where you source your Jungle Cock capes, seems to be getting more difficult to get good ones nowadays. Thanks Andrew
Hard to get good vulturine here.
Stunning you make it look easy lol which I know it's not
I have always wondered, how do you get that small piece of wax to stick to your finger? Nice fly too!

@@DavieMcPhail thank you so much!
Hello Davie, what type of vise is that? It looks different from what I have seen before!
