Thank you so much for the video! Just got a z31 with rodknock and it’s so good to see how stuff comes apart before diving deep into it not knowing where to start
Hey! Awesome video! What brand / model was the T04E that you removed? I’m looking to put a modest 10 to 12 PSi to my VG30 and was wondering how yours performed? I don’t think I’d need a huge turbo for that kind of PSi, but would love to hear your input, thanks!
I had an 86 300zx turbo 2+2 in light blue! and it really moved! But being in New England it rusted really bad!! So my dad and I decided to strip the car and keep the drive train and put in a hot rod. Now is there a company that makes a harness for the engine? Ours is very dry rotted. If you are in need of something you can't find I might have it in my garage attic feel free to contact me. You have a great channel
That stock autozone clutch isnt going to hold much power. The stock turbo makes enough torque to slip it around 12psi. Clearly you are going for a lot more with the t70 so I guess you're planning on pulling the engine again?
@@budgetboosting how would one rip a harness out of a car and ecu?!?! I purchased a janky 86 turbo and I want to put the turbo motor into my clean N/A 87 Z. Would I need anything else to finish the build. still stock, no intercooler available, (stock everything except fuel pump, and injectors)
Great Z31 engine pull, super informative !! I have an '86 Z31 Turbo and was wondering, what kinds of things did you remove from the car/engine bay to make it more simpler? I feel like it has alot of stuff everywhere on the engine bay
I removed the radiator fan from the water pump, all the radiator shielding shrouds, and installed two electric fans to draw air from the radiator with a fan relay and temperature wiring kit (can find at autozone/O'Reilly) Removed the smog pump, air conditioning pump, power steering pump and associated tubes and lines. The airconditioning condenser at the front of the radiator was also removed to provide more air to the radiator. Basically my engine accessories only drive the waterpump, alternator, and the crank pulley. Everything else I have deleted. The car is very easy to steer without the power steering and it is one less leak to have to deal with. I also simplified the intake, by removing the airbox, and installing a large free flowing air filter directly to the Mass air flow sensor. Deleted all the other piping I did not need. I removed the EGR and made a block off plate to cover the place that it was, and closed off the EGR exhaust supply hole on the exhaust manifold. I removed the egr line that led to the exhaust and closed off the hole. Removed the catalytic converter and replaced with straight pipe. Removed the muffler and replaced it with a free flow muffler (your choice) I used one with a 5 inch end that looks as great as it sounds. I removed the entire cruise control module and blocked off the vacuum lines going to it. I do not use cruise control so its gone. I have done many other things to that car and they are on some of the videos.
Are the only options to keep the stock turbo, or get a relocation pipe for a bigger turbo and lose air conditioning? Can a bigger turbo be used in the stock location/configuration?
Parents are selling my dad's z31 he has 2 a complete and a parts car unless I can swap motors around in 2 months any tips for an 18 year old that's only worked on dirt bikes
Not much harder. Remove trans mounts and drive shaft, unplug any wire connections. Pull the Shifter out and you’ll need a engine leveler on your engine crane so you can tilt it as you go.
Used my engine puller. Removed trans to engine bolts, removed starter, removed clutch slave cylinder, removed nuts from engine mounts, removed many other plugs and lines to separate engine from compartment. I slowly lifted engine puller, tilted slightly, slowly used a small pry bar to start the trans to separate from the engine. I always put a jack stand under the transmission before going up on the engine puller so transmission does not slam down once engine separates from transmission.
anyone know how much total it would cost to just replace a turbo part on a 1988 300zx, looking into buying one that only needs a turbo, someone please help
Perhaps a used Nissan Skyline RB25 or RB26 turbocharger would be great for a 300zx. It spools better, its newer design and technology and very common. You can find RB26 stock turbochargers all day long for around $200 a turbo.
If you want to make crap for power and use all the fuel thats a good option. Much better to use nistune and just get a custom tune. JWTs tune are super conservative timing and fuel wise to the point that its comical. Gotta be that way because it has to work for everyones setups. Hell I made 315rwhp and 369ftlbs on the stock fuel system, injectors, pump, fpr, ecu everything. Just a bigger turbo on a relocation pipe and external wastegate and fmic.
We have not made a video in quite a while, camera and video production editor has been extremely focused on his new job. The Z ended up performing great. The custom external wastegate on passenger side really regulates the T70 boost great. That car pulls great and boost comes on hard at 15 lbs of boost. Time to find much larger fuel injectors and the best way to have the computer adjusted for running higher boost levels. Either I have to research Nistune or JWT Jim wolf technology for the right computer tuning to bring this combination to maximum potential. Up to 15 lbs on 100 octane fuel with this setup is great, more boost than that, I run out of injector. Anyone hating on the Z31 needs to watch AM Reboot's you tube videos, he went all out on his z and it is the best Z31 I have seen so far in this country.
thank you so much for this video. the lack of content on youtube for the z31 is scary lol so you are appreciated.
I'm currently working on my z31.... no idea what I'm doing. Does anyone know where I xan get a new exhaust manifold?
@@jacobzavala4215 no, they dont make those anymore so you gotta make one yourself
Six years later it still hasn’t got better!
@@jacobzavala4215 sadly they don’t make ‘em so either look for a junkyard Z or make one

I love your energy, and thanks for the helpful vid :). Hope you guys are doing well all these years later
I like how indepth you go with everything. very handy, thank you
In the process of doing this at the moment. Just discovered your film. What would suggest extra that I do or add to improve performance thsnks

ThatKoukiZ31 u know so much ha
ThatKoukiZ31 i was thinking the same thing, that clutch is going to turn to gravy with that turbo. The VG30 has good torque but add that turbo 💀
Question. How would you go about pulling the crank gear to replace an oil pump?
I got a 1988 300zx 2+2 coupe non turbo... was wondering if it's a big budget trying to tubo this engine?
easiest way is find a turbo 300zx engine with harness and ECU, on ebay or somewhere, install it with an intercooler and that is the easiest way.

im pretty sure thats the config he had in this video, an upgraded turbo in the stock location.
What tool did u use to remove the allen wrench screws
I need help with my nissan. Its a 1988 d21 se v6 double overhead cam with headers all stock and carbureted cant find anything on this engine

Matt how did you the Gabriel shocks performe after you changed out your Bilstiens? And what springs are you running?
Gabriel is average. If I did it over again, I would have used KYB or Tokico which are much better and some are damper adjustable.

did you have to upgrade your injectors and run a stand alone fuel system?
