    I love how at 1:55 the theme goes from rising notes on the piano, suddenly into triumphant chants with heavy brass.

    Somewhere and some time ago at SE studio...
    Soken: “... so, last fight is a guy who’s like a vampire?”
    Yoshi: “yep”
    Soken: “so... hm. Something like Mozart but in a castlevania way?”
    Yoshi: “sure. Just make it a banger esp for the 4th fight too”
    Soken: “👌 say less fam”

    1:56 - 2:28
    There's something about this part that just really strikes me. It's hard to articulate the exact feeling it incites in me but I've thought about it for awhile. It's something like glory, nostalgia. Walking headfirst into destiny, unflinching.

    • @fivesidedpixels4991
      @fivesidedpixels4991 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      someone explained the music theory behind this better than I can on another comment. To oversimplify, it’s just a major section in a mostly minor key song. Like a bright contrast to an otherwise dark track. Gives a nice melancholic vibe. The change in rhythm helps too; most of the song is long, drawn-out choir and organ notes. At 1:56 they switch to much shorter stabs using the choir and brass instead. Makes it feel real triumphant
      if you listen to Hic Svnt Leones at the same part (around 1:10, the part that sounds Scooby Doo-ish), it has a similar effect. The song mostly has a darker gothic rock feel, but the same chords give this section a jaunty, almost playful feel
      all in all I’m really happy with Soken’s work on this one. I DO wish Asphodelos had more themes, but these two that we got were great

      In fact, this part of the song has a very common harmonic sequence in Afro-Cuban songs, specifically a rhythm called "cha cha cha", there are hundreds of latin songs with this same sequence and cadence, nintendo also in their games like mario, zelda etc often borrows these chord sequences to give it a more upbeat, Caribbean feel. It is the classy sounds mixed with valiance that ushers in emotions of victory, allowance, power, perseverance, pride, and honor all in such a short moment. The voices of power compliment the instruments well and multiply these emotions too.

    • @MyChannelsNameIs
      @MyChannelsNameIs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      Music major here! It's actually the rest of the song that's in a minor key (mostly, you can make the argument that its passing through major in its chord progression). 1:55 is *solidly* in A major. And for added punch, it's also a very basic, strong chord progression with a lot of dominant-to-tonic movement like you'd hear in classical music, which is why it sounds so triumphant all the sudden. In contrast, the main chord progression is kind of chromatic and weak (not as is bad, its a harmonic term). So that makes 1:55 REALLY pop

    I heard the Japanese were not so fond of this new type of music as it was not like a typical JRPG music, but more Western. Well-- time they lost their virginity and embraced the Western Gothic music to the fullest. Great work, Soken!

      since the word pandaemonium is from western, making this kind of music is completely fine and acceptable

      I mean, Japan likes Gothic music plenty if you look at something like the soundtrack for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. For FFXIV OST this is a very new vibe, though

    Great song, but kind of slow-paced for a battle theme making it pretty easy to get ignored. Music like Kefka's theme, Titan's theme, Shiva's theme in old raids make me shake my head no matter how many times I died there.
    All pandaemonium's themes are good but not that fast head-shaking kind of music, not suitable to listen to them during an eight-hour battle trying to kill a red chicken. Every time my team was wiped in savage, I'd prefer some hot and fast-paced music to encourage us to move forward and try again.
    I will listen to this in my spare time when I want some good music, but not in Pandaemonium. Three bosses share this same music and the fourth one is the same melody, just turn the iTune on and try something else.

      @Wait What Was I Saying? yes you are right. Maybe it's just this atmosphere itself not suitable for long-time repetitive battle instead of music

    The voice pitch is so much higher than the original version. This hurts my ears.

    I don't like this OST.. it feels just stressfully to me, dunno why.
    Worst OST from all FFXIV raids. But i love FFXIV, not everything has to be perfect for everyone, right?

    Pretty boring, feels like it lacks direction imo. No great hook or hype moments. Way too similar to the Void Ark raids which are run pretty frequently, so it lacks in the freshness category as well. It feels more like going through a haunted house or castle than a fight.

      What? I think it's amazing. I could listen to it all day. This theme fits the surroundings perfectly which does look like a dungeon within a castle or something.

      @@lren1692 Three bosses share this same music, and in savage you will want some hype music to put yourself together after wiped again and again.This is good, but not that good if you listen to it for 8 hours straight during fighting.
