Love the theming nuance with kokytos. For those who don't know. Cocytus is the river of ice in hell where betrayers are sent. Making the arena aether crystal to make it seem like ice is a nice touch. But the fact kokytus devours souls makes him a betrayer to all life, willing to consume others to gain more power. Such a great touch of theming.
To add to this, in Dante's inferno, which they've referenced a lot across the raid, Cocytus isn't a river but a frozen lake, comprised of 4 'rounds', or concentric circles, just as the arena here is.
@@bootwiththeloot4348 other than the context of "Hey, we named the 9th fight of this raid series (and the first one set in the place the Ancients called the Underworld) after the 9th circle of hell", Kokytos feels a bit like a Giant Space Flea from Nowhere in the context of the plot of the raids. What is it? Why is it here? Is this just a thing that occasionally happens down here? Was it a failed attempt to make a copy of someone? WHERE DID KOKYTOS COME FROM???
I'm pretty sure that Kokytos was only created to get our attention, right? No better way to get to the top of the WoL's enmity list than by threatening to eat the souls of their dead friends...
With this song being a remix of Athena's theme, it feels like she's surrounding us, incorporeal but present, not yet fully manifest, obscured. But once you can recognize her theme it's impossible to not notice her influence.
@@chstenswhich just adds to it tbh. Because again, once you notice her theme, you cant help but see her influence around you, including her influence in the previous raids. It really lends to the feeling of "she was behind everything from the beginning"
I love the attention to accessibility in the raid design. One of the things in designing for color-blindness is to ensure that things with meaning should not differ only in color, but some other aspect like shape. The fire and ice have triangle vs hexagon, and also there's a vocal cue in addition to the symbol flashing on the screen and text bubble telling you which one.
@Phoenix They took a song that was super emotional from Shadowbringers, and made it even more so. I was not expecting a triumphant version of To The Edge after the first two raids of this tier. XD
A fun little fact about the way the voice lines that are delivered in this raid. In the Japanese dub, the mage is a cheeky and mischievous young lady, as opposed to the English's old witch voice. The male martialist's voice is also younger and less creepy/gritty and more hot-blooded. Overall, they also sound like they're both enjoying this moment more than the English voices, who sound less than enthused about their situation.
I dont know. To me the mage at least seems to be enjoying it too some extent. I mainly recall "This SHOULDN'T kill you" as someone who's playing with their prey
My patch day 1 is mostly about gathering and crafting, so all I know is P1-P8 and the teaser we got at the end of those quests ... this sounds like a perfectly surreal sound for what promises to be a horror movie of an experience. And I can't want to find out why I can hear "Scream" layered into this one....
So... an idea occurred when I was raiding... While yes this is Athena's Them remixed and all... I keep thinking that this is her singing lullabies to her subjects as if they are her children. Since she considers Ericthanios to be a failer of an experiment to her. The thought keeps occurring and it just makes it worse once you get to P10 and hear Pandaemonium say, "Mother?" what are your thoughts?
Perhaps Kokytos was created to see if souls can be destroyed. We shouldn't forget that the ancients did some fucked up shit when it came to concepts. ( Looking at Hippocampus )

maybe its because I've been on a hymnos marathon (people look it up its really interesting music), but this track feels too similar to Hymnos from Ar Tonelico. everything from its progression to its choice of sounds
I think Kokytos is a product of Athenas experimentation with creation of beings with a soul, but this being instead of having a soul, consumed souls which turned into its consciousness: a mage, a martialist, and a behemoth

“Shouldn’t,” not “won’t” so true.
I mean, they do stress the word "shouldn't" there is no guarantee
The bells/chimes give me such massive SMT vibes. The whole raid did really but this last patch just fully embraced that.
My FC ran the raids last night and we were talking about how all 4 gave us SMT vibes.
