It seems to me that Tarantino's form of high praise for Faye was calling her the most popular "rockstar" of her time, the "Madonna of Mandarin." These remain to be pop culture high praises even to today's standards.
I personally think that "Fallen Angels" is even better. Especially visually due to Doyle's cinematography + I prefer contract killers over police officers. They are more mysterious characters.

Or comedy action of Jackie Chan , and of course the ubiquitous cinema of Andy Lau
Watched the film years ago! It was one of the most original movies made up to date. Nothing predictable about it but every moment of the film was captivating.
At the very beginning of "Chungking Express," during the credits, she's the woman with the paper bag over her head. Later she's wearing the blonde wig.

The shots of the safehouse are enigmatic. Beautiful smoking scenes, connection in loneliness as a theme, but overall great acting and cinematography really make everything in the movie such a classic.

I never understood why he didn't follow it up with Fallen Angels. Would have been a nice one-two punch. I've been a WKW fan forever, and Fallen Angels is my favorite film of his to this day.
