I'd really love to see a complete updated video series from you showing the entire prepping process before the staining. You get such great results and I think what happens before the color goes on is why that is! At least in part! Killer job brother. Peace & Love
Another unique gorgeous piece ,I like the satin , Im learning a lot from you thanks for making these videos, and I think baby blue on the back, hey but what do I know
This is also one of my favourite colour schemes too... Always done to perfection by PRS. I have a Telecaster project idea that is along the same lines, only I'm simply going for a sunburst (Lagoonburst) finish, slightly darker (cobalt) blend of blues, but faded-out to the centre of the body. The rear/sides will be finished in translucent electric/cobalt blue, which I will continue up the rear of the neck/headstock, with the top of the headstock natural maple (Fender Compound neck - 'Deluxe' or 'Ultra'). BUt of course TH-cam somehow predicted that... And pointed me to this video. Thumbs-up for a great job BigD.
I've been using tru-oil to seal my sides for the faux binding, and it works amazing. Especially with the Angela's dye's. If any dye gets on the tru-oiled areas, it can easily be taken off with 0000 fine steel wool with almost all traces of color being easily removed. I don't even tape off properly anymore when I stain because of it. Not really necessary if you're careful around the edges.
@@NYANPASS-CHEN it's perfect for wood. It's just an alcohol based dye. Some people prefer water based dyes, but I've come to prefer the alcohol based dyes. They dry quick as hell too. If you use a wipe on finish some of the dye may wipe away but if you let it dry for about a week, you shouldn't have that much of an issue with that. I've done 2 guitars with Angela's leather dye and have no complaints. Just practice on some scrap wood first
This is so cool. I love the way this turned out. I have never made a guitar. I have a buddy that has given me a Tele neck and a slimline/semi-hollow Tele body and I will give it a go. No finish on the body as yet.
Do you have links to all of the dyes you used? I'm about to stain a guitar in the exact color scheme that you have. Also, do you use the leather, suede, or rit dyes? Thank you! ☺️
Thanks for such a good educational video. Can you please write the names of the dyes you reccomend? And will these be good for an acoustic instrument like a harp or could they degrade the vibrations of the sound board? I’m building a harp and would love to dye with shades of blue, like and ocean and sky.
Derek that was a fantastic video and the best by far I’ve seen on doing a fade. One question you said on video that you were sanding back using 600 but when you switched to the voiceover you said it was 320, which was the correct grit for removing the colour off the top?
I wanted to do something similar with purple vs. blue, but the guy asking is looking for a purple to white fade. I didn’t see Angelus or others that sell white dye. Any ideas?
Man, I'd amber stain that back and sides after belly carving the back, put a heavily amber stained flame maple tele neck on it, and make that thing an epic surf/twang machine.
Seems like you don't use grain filler in any video i watch. Is there a reason as to why? Im getting ready to do a quilted PRS style top a purple to pink burst. If I used a filler what do you recommend?
It's probably already sold but you can pick it up on his website. That's where he lists his bodies if not on ebay. Which he rarely sells on there anymore.

I would love to see you do a carribean burst good sir. :) I'm trying to do one on a v body.
Very nice stained, flamed maple top.
I Will stain my second Les Paul build soon. Thanks for the nice presentation, i learn from it.
Being able to adjust and lighten up till sealer is do cool. "You" can create beautiful final results. But. Dangit , I'm trying!

I love blue on a guitar. It's really my favorite and you certainly do justice to every guitar you finish! Peace my friend
That came out GREAT..
Very nice! I did my first tobacco burst dye job on a Tele body last week. It came out beautiful! Thank you for teaching me!

Only problem for me, I want to try them all. Did my first 10 test this week. So impressed. But remembering the process, make me watch again!
That came out incredible!
In you seal the bindingarea with shellack there will be no bleeding. I had nice results with it. And it is easy to sand away.
Thats amazing! I hope you will be making more bodies soon.
It turned out really nice. Beautiful colors.
Wow, beautiful!

Hello, did you use the Angela's leather dye for your guitar? I'm just unsure if that's suitable for wood.

Great video! Guitar looks awesome.
It looks outstanding!
Nice work Derek.
First what did I win? Nothing just the chance to see his Stained Excellence!!🤪🤪🤪
What is the Neutral you're using to blend the colors? Great video.
Yeah that came out beautiful !!
thanks buddy
What kind of clear coat did you use? The Fade Stain was awesome,,
Bravo!

Amazing!!! Must See TH-cam TV…👍🤘🏼👏
Gorgeous
If you were wanting to do this with red would you use different hues of red or would you dilute a single colour?

buy the stains here: angelusdirect.com/bigdguitars
Re: Angelus, their stuff seems to be all leather and suede dyes; is that what you're using?
Oh yeah!
Blueberry burst?
Do this except start on the opposite end with a hot pink/purple then sand it back with some dabs of grey in the middle
Badass!
Have you ever stained a fretboard? I'm in the process of blue-ing my Strat rosewood fretboard and will probably do the whole neck.
Wonderful 👍
I think you forgot to put the link for the Angelus stains.

600. He sanded the bare wood to 320, and took some color away with 600 after the first staining session.
Do white side or design and the back. Natural. Or black fill
Which sanding sealer did you use?

maple is closed pores don't need to
@@bigdguitars Thanks, makes sense.
I love this one thanks
Seafoam Back ??
I’ll take it! How to pay?
Just pinned the comment
@@bigdguitars thanks!!
What grit did you use on the Mohawk satin?
600
What kind of paint it is?
its angelus leather stain
Paint the sides and back white
The back? I would just seal it as is!!
Is this one for sale? I'll do $250 as is.
