  • Lack of water is a big hurdle to vegetable production in ASALs. Unpredictable weather patterns due to climate change have led to poor harvest, increasing food insecurity and spiralling poverty in Mandera County in the semi-arid North Eastern Kenya. With the generous support of the Canadian Food Grains Bank, ADRA Kenya is transforming the pastoralist communities to large-scale crop farmers by climate-smart farming using farm ponds.

This is great news! Enabling people to provide for themselves, and having a surplus that is never a problem to sell? Nutrition and education; The 2 most effective catalysts. This is how a "sustainable" rise out of poverty is properly done. This is how Government can help, instead of just distributing donated food.
And! The pride and knowledge of one's self worth, one's ability to become an asset --- instead of a liability...? --- No amount of money can purchase THAT!
