It would be interesting to know the exact techniques that helped to restore 10.000 acres of degraded land.

You have to look up FMNR which is basically letting native trees grow and pruning to maximize biomass production (fodder)

I'm curious too, as there are many good ways to do it but maybe they are trying something new...
One of the things they could try is 'tree hay'. The farmers harvest branches to supplement livestock feed from trees chosen/planted to purpose. I'm thinking this maybe is something for them to do in the future as trees successfully reestablish...
      Noticed previous comments made assumptions...

Rain water collection systems need to become more common around the world. Every home and business building should collect rain water and store it. Swales need to be part of the landscape to reduce water run off and allow water to enter the soil and improve ground water.

Ask these people are they happy to be a part of this process or would they prefer to fight each other. Because this is the state we are all in. We can pitch in and help which makes us even happier than the ones who receive it. We as families can all earn much money for ourselves which can give us stuff we don’t really need, or maybe we could reduce what we keep or even earn and move to somewhere we can help people like this. That would reduce our family facing boredom, obesity, cholesterol, some cancers, and maybe we could then pause the rush of our lives to smell the roses.

Desertification is one of the greatest challenge for human being. We have to find many sustainable ways to address this properly.

Population needs to be in balance with jobs, resources, nature and the environment. Having a bigger population in any country than the country can support makes no sense. Access to food, water, shelter and jobs should guide population levels. The worlds population is still expected to add another billion people to feed, clothe and produce pollution.

Jeff Lawton used thorny living plants to create permanent animal enclosures instead of continued dependence on trees.
That barn could hold more bales and be better policed by cats if they stacked it differently in their shed...

Every child should plant a tree, bush or flowers with a parent or teacher.
It will help connect them to nature and the environment.

A year or two later after selecting 3 to 5 shoots in an area and they get bigger, do we then thin again down to 1 or 2?
In many of our areas there are no natural occurring trees. There are sage brush and oak brush. The oak brush can sometimes grow fairly tall - maybe 20 feet tall. I've wondered if by pruning and thinning the oak brush they might grow taller like trees. This area is in NW Colorado, USA
Conversely in a video about the Bamberger Preserve near Austin, Texas, USA, they removed brush and cedar trees and encouraged deep rooted grasses to increase water infiltration into the soil. I'm wondering when brush and trees are helpful in increasing ground water and when they are not - any ideas?
