They were so busy looking back they couldn't look forward. Lush is done. A well curated live CD set would be great though.

Back in the ‘90s, I was trying to get a software company off the ground. A buddy of mine and I went on on a two-month coding jag. He was a night owl, I was a dad of young children. My four Lush CDs played endlessly while I conjured complex data structures sculpting them into something beautiful in a way that software can be when it grabs you and chains you to the creative process. There is so much of the music of Lush in that code, it shaped it like an invisible force.
Now, like Lush, I’m back at it again, older, perhaps wiser and, again, I’m listening to Lush. Good times!

Imagine coming back and producing something every bit as good as the band did at it's peak. Fabulously emotional song. Beautiful.
Probably, early 90's Lush & Ride toured together in the States quite often. Dallas here and I saw Lush/Ride at least 3 times down in Deep Ellum. Actually got to hang out with Miki in 1992 at Lollapalooza. We hung out together near the stage watching The Jesus & Mary Chain's set. I was wearing my Lush T-shirt... the logo from Gala and she giggled and hugged my neck. Great memories.
All I can say is thank you for the memories.
All the four songs in the EP are amazing. Their songwriting skills and charm were still as good as ever. A shame it didn't last, but it least they left this reminder of what a great and underrated band they were.
Happiness is hearing Miki strumming her Riviera with Emma providing an etherial lead. So very thankful for this.
Miki's and Emma's vocals, along with the mesmerizing guitars, make you feel like gliding through a pile of clouds...

I adore them but the "Brit Pop" record was a mistake.

I'm with you on this. The choice of natural looking stars in the vid makes it all the more poignant. They are not Hollywood beauties, but the vid is all the more beautiful because they are not. If this makes sense?
@@neillpw78 Very much agreed. Against the standards of MTV, etc., they are not beautiful people, but within the universe of this sublime song, they are. We watch them *become* beautiful by unseeing what we're traditionally told to regard as beauty or ugliness, in ourselves and--in this video--in others. It's just amazing and transformative.

As a drummer who grew up with this sound, I would give everything to play with them.
when you can't gather the phrases correctly. and 20 years later, someone else manages to put them in to a dreamy song. you have to give this to someone you love and adore. this is a gift.
This is greatness. There's also very subtle melodic/chord combinations that are like a "signature" for the band. That's at 2:13 here. Classic Lush.
I've listened to this at least 10 times in a row now...I just can't believe Lush is back and how utterly brilliant they are in return. I actually feel 25 years younger listening to this. I can't wait to see them live!

I dug Lush and knew of Ride in 1992, but never heard the term "Shoegaze" until the 2000s. Oh well, was never fully present for the original scene, but thank goodness for the internet.
Just think, it's been 5 years and I'm sure your not finished with all the Shoegaze bands!

I think Ladykillers was a reaction by Miki and Emma trying to acert their feminist side. I think they though some of the videos from Spooky portrayed them as waifs. They stripped a lot of vocal effects down.

+Japanese Shoegaze Agreed. While I enjoy Lovelife well enough, I much prefer their shoegaze/alternative rock form over their Britpop phase. Wasn't too concerned that they'd pick right up where they left off though as this seems to be their more beloved sound. Hopefully we'll get another full-length album similar in quality to Spooky or Split. If this song is anything to go by, there shouldn't be a thing to worry about.

Everything about Out of Control, the song, video, the look, are beautifully raw. The song is ethereal and slamming. It evokes the edgy 90's, but is totally modern. Each time I listen, this song stays in my mind.
Saw Lush in 91, 93' and again in 2016 then they go and break up again! Saw Ride in 92 and 2017 Saw MBV in 91' and 2017, so I'm content for the rest of my life!
Some reunions are never meant to be. Those who grew up in this era, especially those who immersed completely in certain sub genres like punk or this scene or watevs are the nostalgic counterpoint to bands attempting to gather new fans. Sometimes the era is unable to be re-created. Its hard to look back on without burning a hole in your ♥. Lush epitomised this musucal era inbthis scene, sure people love mbv or ct's - but pixies lush etc just take you back to an unattainable memory... wed be in our 40s atleast by now and pink hair, substances parties that end up as ledgends, gigs aplenty ... it all ends sadly.... should life get in the way? NO, but when your 48 or watevs, gettin home at 4am still peakin , with ten friends = nah! I dunno- maybe i just miss my old life

Miki and Emma are such great song writers. Miki also crafts such great chord progressions. They are simple but so rich.

Fuck I love this video (and the song of course!!!). I can't believe 56 people actually gave it a thumbs down. It's so good, evokes so much long-forgotten emotion. The acne, the birds, the (for me) sadness of the Sunday night sunset, even the smoke trails from the fighter planes - it's perfect.
I saw them in portland, oregon....it was a great show although it would have to caught them earlier in the tour....however they were f*cking amazing and this song rang true to LUSH standards!!! LOVE to all......forever...

I was just a child in the early 90's,and grew to love your music the past few years,wishing I could have been older back in the day to discover you when you first came out and see you. Now, I can. LUSH have always owned a certain cadence with their vocals. Not sure how to explain it. This track popped up on my playlist. I was 3 rooms away, heard the vocal cadence and voice and KNEW it was new LUSH. Great track. One of my fave old-school 4ad outfits. Still a sweet sound. Props😆
Lush, Kitchens of Distinction and the Afghan Whigs have all made brilliant comeback records in the last year or so. An unexpected but fab treat.
