This song is what got me into Lush. I was watching MTV at like 1 A.M. This song/video came on. I watched it with my jaw dropped to the floor. Then proceeded to go out and buy every CD Lush had out at the time, the next day. Been a fan ever since.
rush thatspeaks good memories man =`(
Just watched a bunch of youtube videos of thier live tour last year...good stuff
Same here. This was 2016, but, better late than never eh. Incredible band! And so sad about Chris not sticking around anymore...
Same here. This song opened the doors to this dreamy world.
@@christiangranum7387 I saw what would become his last show. So sad.
At whatever point in life you discover Lush, consider yourself lucky. Truly a gem from a better age in music. I remember first listening to Gala in 1991 or so, and was blown away. Been a fan ever since.
Just found them... Great point friend
@@acesing0987 Also just found them -- they were off my radar 30 years ago -- and I'm simply blown away.
RIP Chris the drummer. I met him in a nightclub in London in the early 90s. Great guy, such a sad loss
Indeed a sad loss. This and Laura from Spooky along with Deluxe is some of his best drumming with Lush.
@@TXMusicDrummer Made that 9/8 and 6/8 groove.
Their key changes and chord progressions send chills down my spine. I remember tearing up when I first heard them. The melodies did something to me. It's simultaneously intense, aggressive and also beautifully haunting.
Wonderfully stated. Intense, aggressive and haunting. Still blows my mind that someone came up with this.
These ladies know their music theory.
Credit to the bassist, too.
That vocal harmony...
Many a Walkman battery gave it's life so I could listen to this song over and over again.
... gave its* life (it's = it is)
@@einundsiebenziger5488 Thank you, I'll defiantly remember that :p
This can't get anymore 90's. I feel like I'm living inside a Greg Araki film. I will NEVER NOT love this!
No one else has written music like Emma Anderson.
exactly !
Her first solo album next friday!!!!!!!!!!
Which one's Emma

Me in the world
Losing tears, shedding fears
Strain for the sun
Make you run, make you come
You don't know
You don't know
I'm in my home
All the time, on my own
Low finger fine
Take what's mine, from behind
You don't know
You don't know
It's not there
You don't care
You're still inside of me
Beneath the cotton core
My pictures smile at me
And soon they'll rise and soar
Fill up my space
Turn around, fade and trace
Be absolute
Blue and white, fatal fruit
She nylon smile
Full of lies, shining eyes
Cover my grin
Take a chance, maybe win
It's not there
It's not fair
You don't know
You don't care
Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Lush and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.
That's why British Bands are way ahead over their American counterparts, especially Innovating Rock music, from psychedelic, Punk, Heavy Metal, New Wave, Post Punk, Indie rock and Shoegaze
That was the sweetest thing I've ever read on TH-cam, especially how bad things are right now over here , bad times indeed for us all , ya gave me a little pride back , inner peace , stay safe.
@@kanedasrifle aw hunn, turn off the tv, it ain't doing you any favours x
Couldn't agree more as an American. Thank God for British bands!!!!!!
Why must you all always disrespect and discredit Foundational BLACK AMERICANS, AFTER ALL WE CREATED ROCK N ROLL, and
without us NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE EXISTED ! So show your forever gratitude towards us.
rock n roll jazz blues hip hop dj's rnb soul Funk House music techno all come from My people. Music would Not be the same without us period.
so thats nice to show love for british people
But dont EVER FORGET Where and What group started this ENTIRE GENRE.
The sound just takes you where you want to be. There's no explaining it. Another masterpiece from 4AD.
I love how the bass drops into the song. Very cool. And the harmonizing. Wow. What a shame they don't make bands like this anymore.
they do, they're just hard to find
its a shame this band didn't have better financial success.
and I do feel shamed. if I coulda I woulda.
gorgeous, ethereal vocals and guitars...
this song is about ghosting...the term wasn't really widely mentioned to the effect that it is in this generation...but the shift continues...classics and gems like this one...have such beautiful timbres and harmonies, with cryptic lyrics that leave a sense of longing for love, wanting/wishing for more...only denying the evident...travesty shoegaze...forever....approximately.....forever
Pretty sure Miki once said this song is about Tampax.
it's about wearing a wig on a night out
shoegaze was before the emo scene.
This is so effing dope. Please take me back to the 90's.
If ever a band was underrated due to their sorta alternate/ indie-esque ledgend its this band. This is one of 3 songs from this album that almost tear my heart out and make me yearn for 1994 again. I find it so hard to listen to it, i know its a bit unhealthy but i just hate that life isnt as it was when i was 18...
Are the others 'Tiny Smiles' and 'Fantasy'? Perhaps also Monochrome...
When it comes down to the most elementary level, this band just sounds so good.
should have a billion views
Well if there was youtube back in the 90s, it would have.
a trillion !!!!!!!!!
999 trillion views
The harmonies and creative bass lines with its peculiar pedal tone effect sounds like something Debussy could have composed. Very artistic.
i know what you mean
You have very good ears
Emma was a truly exceptional songwriter, shame she never got more recognition.
Debussy would have been a shoegaze musician if he was of that time
are you aware of how much Art of Noise literally worshipped Debussy?
Just a great 90's band.
This is the most shoegaze song ever made. Love it. Also, lots of inverted chords, the bass is all over the wall of sound.
Great song but not shoegaze.
@@TheMusicalElitist it's shoegaze. But believe what you want, wont discuss (incredibly pointless).
@@TheMusicalElitistit’s definitely Shoegaze
Her voice is striking.
Deluxe was the tune that turned me on to Lush. I ran out and got Gala which turned out to be a bit of a compilation of EPs, I think. There was a song on there called Downer that sounds like a precursor to Superblast! I go back and forth trying to figure out which I like better. They both rock. They both trip. God, I miss this band.
I'm sure this song was a hit on other planets.
Great
it peaked at no.1 on the moon
i know I am kind of off topic but does anyone know of a good site to stream newly released movies online?
@Trey Zaire i watch on flixzone. You can find it on google =)
@Rayan Heath Definitely, been watching on Flixzone for months myself =)
There are a lot of shoegaze/dreampop/post-punk/britpop bands that came out of the 90s, but IMHO I think Lush excelled at creating a sonic atmosphere of glorious ethereal angst that was catchy, haunting and memorable that made them the top of their genre. We needed more from them, but I am grateful for what they gave us.
Ultimate Lush. This song just blew me away on College radio. Boston. Here I am at 66yrs old. Hearing it again.
I played Lush a lot when I dj'd on our college radio station. Arkansas. Lush still blows me away.
My favorite Lush tune, great video too capturing the essence of the band. One of the better tunes out of the 90's.
The legend lives on. Thank you Lush.
I was actually at the concert at the Glasgow Uni QMU venue where a lot of this video was filmed!
Right around 3:54 there's a shot of Chris that looks like a silent scream, it makes me sad
Michael Reinhardt I know exactly what you mean. :(
Michael Reinhardt I know exactly what you mean. :(
RIP, Chris.
2:45-2:47 Miki turns back to Chris and then smiles/laughs about something, also poignant
30 years on and I'm totally back in love with Lush again.
God I love this band.
Miki is so amazing looking in this one
The world needs more Lush copycats. I'm so glad I got to spend my youth listening to this band. Magic.
You might like Warpaint.
there's a significant part of me that would love to do a Lush cover band. I keep thinking about getting a 12 string Gibson or Rickenbacker. then I'd need all those pedals.... but that's what it takes to play like Mikki.
There's something about that bass that makes the song. Beautiful.
Lush is the band that allowed me to make it though my time in the military. It is a shame that I never got the chance to see them live.
did i ever want to see them live. my stomach still gnaws to see them live.
cocteau twins with attitude!
David Alderson It was Robin Guthrie's production. The similarities are definitely there.....
+David Alderson like if Cocteau Twins doesn't had it. They were just different. Really different.
@@jawoody9745 The production was so important with this sound, I remember there were problems with Split's dynamics initially - a different producer Mike Hedges - and it was later remixed by Alan Moulder (MBV, Curve, Swervedriver and Ride).
Miki famously went extra mean girl on Liz Frazer back in the day calling her fat. Ah youth....
Nothing sounded like this or made you feel the same way as this......it’s like a Cure like effect but it’s much more beautiful than the Cure and more shimmery. It elevates
Robert Smith probably wishes he could be this feminine with his music.
The best band ever. Looking forward to seeing them in Chicago in September.
This is such an awesome song. Emma's song writing is brilliant. This is a Pandora find for me and I am totally blown away by this band! :)
love the close ups of the band members at the end of the clip
A unique and heavenly sounding harmony. .
we really want to, but it's going to take a while... locating masters and that kind of thing.
Please I need Lush on CD bad.
ok its been 11yrs. and how do I get a cd?
Rediscovering Lush in 2024, am reminded how great they were. Truly underrated at the time. LUSH FOREVER!!!
Nostalgic for Lush and man, Miki was SO cool in EVERY FKN Way!
Saw them at Lolla in '92-Mountain View, CA. Fan ever since!
Can't believe they got back together!!! Got tickets to see them in Sept. in NYC!!! :)
I already saw them thrice this year. Can't have enough.
What happy news!
I hate that I don't hear about stuff like this. life gives me a second chance and I still miss out.
A song that will make you instantly fall in love with Shoegaze! Long live LUSH !
An amazing track from an incredible band from a much simpler time...
Always coming back to it ❤on my list of the best songs ever

Same.
Can't believe I saw Lush about 23 years ago! Great small venue
The outro is incredible
Una gran banda!!
4AD folks, are there any plans to release remasters of all Lush albums? This needs to happen!
it’s happening this month
I'm down for a remastered complete compilation.
I get absolutely lost in this song. It's probably my favorite.
Think I like 'Deluxe' slightly better, but that might just be me...😬
I was so lucky to see them in Lollapalooza 92 with J&MC!
I saw the in 92 with the Flaming Lips. Good times.
Haunting chill giving vocals. beautiful poetic lyrics. So underrated this band.
Absolutely wicked! So much intense, powerful guitar noise combined with lovely melody and harmony. Glad to hear they have reformed, along with Slowdive.
When listening to this song I can hear where Soundpool may have got their inspiration from. Different production and guitar styling but similar vocal melodies.
Now that would be a great concert lush and slowdive (: That would be too Awesome (:
No pueden más! Los 90s la mejor década musical por lejos
I love lush! They are one of my favorites!
This for me is just everything great about the 90s
Shoegaze at its best.
The energy I get from this song is high vibrational and ethereal ❤️🔥🎸
One my favourites such a dreamy tune 🥰❤️
Lush is dreamy everything.
Absolutely glorious
Lush is one of best groups to come out of the 90s short of Nirvana and I still love listening to them today..
I'd take Lush over Nirvana in a heartbeat.
Susquehanna80 This and Tool came from the 90's, and I love both.
Robot Ears Lush is actually one of Dave Grohl's favorite bands. You can hear the influence in Floaty.
Susquehanna80 Lush was playing the same gig with Nirvana the first show that Nirvana played under that name.
Susquehanna80 jus dropped on em there alright mate
What a discovery! Straight to my Spotify!
Saw Weezer open for them in 1994. Lush was absolutely mesmerizing
omfggg this band melts me
Something about that sound at 1:30 just tickles my brain in the right way
The Best music. This is my trip to another galaxy!!!
The most beautiful soundtrack to getting a speeding ticket
Saw them in concert last year and it was AMAZING
I love Emma.
I was so lucky to see Lush in 1992.
DREAM--STATE approaches and arrives at 3:12 OMFG!!!!!
Joseph Bruno on point sir😄
Lollapalooza "92 !!!
outros like that are why i think lush are the best band to come out of shoegaze
EXACTLY! That outro is intense ....and perfect. Same for the one in Nothing Natural.
Great call
I was fortunate to see them live. Back at the second Lollapalooza tour(1992) Micki rules!
one of best moments in music history at 2.02
Yeeeeeeeeeesssssss!!!!
Sigh… I listen to this song and it takes me right back to my university days in the early 90s. Back to a time when I felt confident, indestructible, energetic. A time where I could do anything and everything was possible. It all feels like such a distant memory, but hearing the music takes me back to those good times.
That makes me sound like a right miserable old fart! My life is pretty good, to be fair. I’m still young in my head, my eyes and ears still work pretty well, even if the rest of me doesn’t, and I’m married to an amazing woman, have fantastic kids and grandkids, a job I really enjoy, a flash car to indulge my midlife crisis and a home in a really nice area. And on top of that, I was young when music like this was happening. I don’t know what I did to be so lucky, but I’m bloody glad I did it!
Love you Miki 😍😍😍
same problem as above, but soon hopefully!
Pure Bliss.
It's so good!! Seamless melodies and harmonies, I've loved this band since they started, and I'll love them until the Circa Aeon (forever) ***
Damn their harmonies are legendary ❤
⚁ nd wave of grt bandz on tis unique label, Pale Saints, ultra vivid scene. Sa mani timz.
Brilliant
I met Miki and Chris once at First Avenue in 1995-sh? Cool people, fun. Great shows, always caught them when they came by. LOUD. It was great.
Wow. Just wow. Ethereal, enchanting ...
Great song!So psychodelica ! The best strike on moment 3:26 so epic!!! The girls are so beauty / Emma its a perfect mediterranean beauty / i love her!!!.Greetings from LatinAmerica
+Carrera Carrera actually she is mediterranean, her dad is from Morocco.
Thanks for tge re-play man / but are you serious about her heritage? Thanks again!
Thanks! Again ST.Fiacre by the info! Now i get it!
+Carrera Carrera, I accidentally deleted my last post, here, ill post it again about what Emma says about her Moroccan father.
From her article:My Old Man.Bill Anderson,by Emma
"In case anyone is interested to who my biological "old man" is,well, all i have garnered from my Birth mother is that his name was Mohammed or Moe and he was a 19 year old Moroccan law student who was spending the summer of 1966 playing drums in a resident band a disco in Marbella. That is all i shall ever know"
Finally! I've been looking this song for many many years after first hearing/seeing it on mtv2.
ありがとうございます(arigatou gozaimasu)

There are no other bands like this.

I really like Lush, and I hope they come back together and play, I wanna see them..
