  • On April 17th, airplane EDV4903 encountered a possible drone strike while descending toward runway 22 at New York's LaGuardia Airport (KLGA) at an altitude of 5,000 feet. The crew immediately reported the incident to air traffic controllers (ATC) in the New York Approach sector. ATC promptly declared an emergency for the flight. Despite the incident, EDV4903 landed safely and the crew informed the tower that all instruments seemed to function normally.

    IMPORTANT:
    This video is all about education. It's designed to give aspiring pilots and air traffic controllers a taste of real-world situations through example scenarios and helpful info. But that's not all! Current pilots and controllers can also benefit by listening to real radio communications from around the globe. This helps them stay sharp and think about how they might handle similar situations in the future.
    To create these videos, I keep my ear to the ground on major aviation news and events. I check the dates and time zones to see if I can find recordings of the radio conversations. Then, I become a bit of a broken record myself, listening to them repeatedly to create subtitles and identify key moments. Finally, I whip up some animations (or grab them from ADS-B websites) and pull it all together into a neat package.

    If the map is accurate, that's a heavy drone use area around southern Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Although 4000 feet seems high for a drone?

      That area is a NO DRONE ZONE, NO drones are flying in that area without RID ( remote ID ) or a FAA, approval....geesh...the dreaded drone scam continues
      and who is behind it is the Commercial Drone alliance ( they are commercial drone companies ) who are buying the airspace

      surprisingly not that high. I believe alot of the DJI stuff have service ceilings well above 10000 which is pretty mind boggling

      I think mine is 18000 if I remember correctly. Because I was amazed at how high it was because I can’t legally fly over 400 for most purposes

    • @bxbomber92
      @bxbomber92 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea legally it's 400ft max outside of controlled airspace however you do have the ability to fly A LOT higher. FAA gets a hold of that and you'll be sent a 5 figure summons in the mail.

    I know, I know, drone strike in civil aviation follows from bird strike, but damned if it reads like LaGuardia Approach got drone striked.

    There's saying drone strikes with no damage pictures. There are bird strikes, panels slapping the plane when falling off, structure failure and rivets shearing to make the noise but seldom a here you go this was what happened.

    Most likely stuff in the hold falling over or a slammed bathroom door something dumb. Everything is a drone strike anymore and by the way unless it hits the windshield the pilots would not know or hear it off the wing. Scared pilots are not a good idea.

      @@WestAirAviation You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. The amount of noise in a CRJ cockpit is quite loud. Unless you felt a HUGE impact, you wouldn't hear anything hitting the right wing. If you felt it, it would have left a big impact on the aircraft, which could be easily identified on landing. That being said, it wouldn't have to be a drone a bird would not only be more likely but would also weigh more than most hobbyist drones on the market. Also don't forget not long ago there was a video on this very channel where the pilot said "he saw what looked like a drone", but when they landed and inspected the aircraft, there was clearly blood from a bird strike. So yes, I do think I know better than this pilot, he's just making speculations and being a reactionary, not making logical conclusions.
