Lyrics:
Hey, Dianne, could you pick up the phone? I know that you're listening. Baby, I know that you're home and I know where I went wrong. Don't you leave me alone. Could you pick up the phone? I'm lost at a truck stop somewhere in the South. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm figuring it out. I locked myself in this phone booth; read you the number aloud. Now, I'm waiting it out. If I lay here long enough, maybe the bugs will eat me whole. If I stay here long enough maybe the night could take me home. I won't let go, even if you say so. No, I won't let go. Hey, Dianne, I've been trying to quit. I went from a pack and a half a day to this e-cigarette bullshit. It don't give me what I want but it stops them coughing fits. Oh, I know how you hate it. Hey, Dianne, I know I fucked up. It's just when we lost the baby, I kind of shut off. I know I never listened. I wasn't there for you enough. I'm a fuck up. I had a dream I flew back North and the plane went down before we hit New York. You didn't come to the funeral. I hope you'd come to the funeral.

Lost love, addiction, miscarriage, divorce, anxiety, depression, and desperation.
What a heavy album, and an especially heavy song.
Don't forget the death of the father.
^ this, this song is still as relevant today as it ever was
It's like life
The way Dan presents such regret for a fictional character going through divorce in young manhood is astounding. i literally weeped when i heard "Hey, Dianne, I know I fucked up. It's just when we lost the baby, I kind of shut off" Oh Mr Campbell you've made feeling human that much more okay. Thank you
"I hope you come to the funeral" fucks me up
She can't cause it's already sold out
This song always manages to fuck me up right in the feels.
he just wants to sell out his funeral, diane.
He just wants to be enough for everyone, come on diane
That trumpet at the end gives me goosebumps.
I was just about to say something about that
Yeah there's something weird about it.
Has the feeling of depression and nobility.
+DeViNoDe this song is the reason why i bought a trumpet. Imma learn how to play that part.
Outro trumpets always get me. I think they are one of the most underutilized instrument in sad songs.
When you see him in concert he had the whole crowd do the trumpet part...it’s so good!
Soupy is a crazy good lyricist. He really knows how to hit that soft spot in people's hearts.
I don't think I've listened to one of his songs and not felt the undeniable need to hug him.
am i the only one thinking a movie should be made inspired by this album?
Check out the new teaser, you might like what you see!
They need Ryan Gosling to play the male in it if they did. It would be a fucking incredible movie.
Just noticed the pile of sheets on the end of the couch after hearing our apartment. That's where Aaron sleeps because he can't stand his bed without Dianne. Then the Buffalo hat! The whole album is such a brilliant piece of work
I really wish this song was on the radio. This is definitely mainstream worthy.
This is gorgeous. In a record label lacking in emotion, Hopeless finally found a genuine lyricist. I'm going to get the album for sure.
It's not about forcing happiness, it's about not letting sadness win.
Wrong Song.
It doesn't matter what mood I'm in, this song fucks me up and I cry 100% of the time
Listening to this still in ‘23 from front to back this album is so damn good 😩
I cry evertim. But really that verse about losing the baby and then the dream about the plane...damn.
Is anyone else watching this while they are currently in a loving relationship? Bc I am and this is making me so sad at the thought of losing my significant other. Damn it man :(
Soupy, I'm soo proud of how much progress you've made as a musician. He never fails to impress me!
If you all think his indebtedness to this album is beautiful off this video, you really need to see him perform an Aaron west set live... the man does it, in character. Full character. Tears. Commentary. Back story. Everything. It is absolutely masterful.
Love that he's wearing his dad's old Bills hat that's mentioned in the song 'You Ain't No Saint'
This song fucking blew my mind.
I play and sing through this album sometimes when I need an emotional outlet and some of the lyrics I just can't bring myself to sing without my voice breaking. All of these songs are incredibly important, this one especially.
It's so amazing to listen to listen to his music and be high. I'm about to cry.
This is one of those songs that if you hear it when you're in the exact spot as Aaron, you'd wish you could go back and listen it when everything was fine.
Amazing song, like the use of the Bills hat that was talked about in You Ain't No Saint.
Good Lord. This song gets to me so hard, I can't listen to it anymore without crying.
Phrasing.
2tYlerfAilure7 I love you
@@2tYlerfAilure7 had a double take
I love TWY, why am I only finding this now?!
This music video just makes me want to give Soupy a hug
hahaha true :(
Am I the only one that thinks Dan is a musical genius? Like to me there are only a few legit musically gifted people alive now, Mike Shinoda, Eminem coming off the top of my head.. people that can just keep writing and writing and composing different genres and sounds. I'm becoming convinced Dan is right there with them.
I think working with Ace Enders helped him a shit ton.
+John Francis while I love Soupy, I don't think he's a talented enough musician to be considered a genius, but lyrically he's one of the most talented lyricists around, so in that sense I'd consider him a genius
Don't forget sufjan Stephens m8
+John Francis
Eminem: "Just lose it, HAHA HAHA HA"
Yeah, talent!
+Kevin Smith yeah people aren't allowed to have fun with their music also that songs super old and it's not like dans never had a silly song
I love the trumpet bit at the end and the song is beautiful and emotional
I like how at the end, there's a kid that seems to almost recognize who he is (Or at least it looks like it).
Soupy is the best, my favorite lyricist and singer. No one makes me cry as often as him.
Hauntingly beautiful.
Every one deals with their own issues. I appreciate the sincereness throughout this album, it helps reflect how a lot of people cope with tragedy.
i love this song and i love his voice. it's so unique and it just has this quality that brings this unexplainable feeling to every song
Soupy is a very talented musician. I can't wait for this album.
am I the only one who was expecting to see hank walking around at some point in the video?
Yes.
Tyler Brazeal haha
I thought the wasnt sad anymore
Soupy isn't. Aaron West must be though.
yeah you're right
also you dont know when the song was written
Just tired most nights.
He's still sorry he doesn't laugh at the right times though.
Guys this isn't Soupy, it's Aaron West!
Sarcasm
I saw him live two days ago. He ran the merch table before and while talking to him he was his normal self, but as soon as he went on stage as Aaron West he completely transformed. He didnt acknowledge the few idiots shouting out " HEY SOUPY" and became aaron west. it was great.
right in the feels. his lyrics are literally perfection
As someone who's lost the love of their life just for being such a senseless scumbag, listening to this song makes it so hard to swallow. Don't turn your back on the ones who love you. Push yourselves to be the best part of someone else's life.
Everyone's gotta learn somehow so they can be better. Best wishes to ya man, and to the ones we hurt.
This hits home.
I am so excited for this album
thank you for always being there for me for every break up love you soupy
Aaron West lives the vape life
Vape Naish, dog
To any Rooster Teeth fans, look at the fridge at 1:19
Cheeky RT magnet ❤️
Beautiful song, absolutely stoked for the album!
Get stoked on it!
This is actually the most harrowing song I think I've ever heard
*depressing
Seeing Soupy in a Buffalo Bills hat gets me pretty hype.
This song is amazing and I cannot wait to listen to the album at least 100 times.
The whole song is pretty good, but by 3:40 I got THE chills. Stoked for the album!
I know I never listened, I wasn't there for you enough.
This is amazing!!!! thank you for more amazing music Soupy!!!!!
such a beautiful song
Mr.Campbell,
To tell you how much this album has helped me in life would be an understatement. This was the first song I had learned on guitar and truly mastered (including those little hammer-on pull-offs) from there I became instantly hooked to your character and his music. My dream is too see you one day play so i can tell you this in person, you have truly been an inspiration to my music and to my life and i thank you for that 🤘🏻
Simply beautiful
tears never felt so good
This gets me in my feels
Sponsored by Marlboro cigarettes, Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whisky, and that lonely park bench by the river.
This is like all my favorite parts of The Wonder Years, Limbeck, and Hot Rod Circuit.
Full of true americana raw emotion.
wow! beautiful!!!!
God man, so many feels.
Go Bills!
this is just what i need! truly beautiful :)
His shirt is a Wallace & Barnes Flannel from J Crew...I know this cuz I own it. Boy's got style
I love this. I love guys thay know their buffalo jeans and j crew threads
4:15
Looks like Dan from Real Friends.
I got kicked in the feels....now I need a hug
This is beautiful.
Soupy is the songwriter of a generation. From his pop punk to this folky storytelling, the words put you in the story, for better or worse.
I can see Aaron sitting in a phone booth, broken down and crying on the phone to Diane about the fuckups in his life.
It's heartbreaking.
I listened to this as a younger man who was just married. Now I'm getting divorced...
rough bro hope all is well
That Bills hat though.
oh my god... he sounds just like the vocalist from the wonder years.
is this what young kids call a troll?
because..
he is?
hahaha good that one
OMG and he LOOKS JUST LIKE HIM TOO!
that's because everyone with a beard sounds like Soupy, it's science, don't question it
eeeeewow the feels. :c
The subway station at the end of the video is Classon Ave, which at all times is served by the G train. You kept me waiting like the G train.
I guess he found his dads old Bills hat
Powerful new song Soupy!! Keep on this track with the rest of the album and please oh please give us music sheets so I can learn to play it :)
I'm probably going to have quite a few man cries during this album holy shit
Is a very very very beautiful voice, I like it soo much
My favorite song for polishing off a fifth😃
Same
Good shit.
Diggin that bills beanie, bruh
I just saw him earlier playing this song live and a few others at the Gallery Of Sound in PA. He's down here for Warped Tour. He played a pretty solid show if you ask me.
lucky!
Ace needs to produce for more artists.
"it's just when we lost the baby, I kind of shut off... and i know i never listened i wasn't there for you enough... I'm a fuck up" SOUL BEARED...
Man, this whole album makes my heart hurt
Shortly after this album came out, my long time woman had a miscarriage after 4 months of pregnancy. We had been trying for about 6 years before she finally got pregnant. Its a scar that we will never lose.... She never got pregnant again, we have learned to deal with it. On the good side, we are still together and stronger than ever, 13 years and running.... This song/album helped me though a tough time...
New favourite song... at least until I hear the rest of the album I guess.
These frantic rest-stop phone calls don't get answered anymore.
Looking forward to seeing you guys in a couple months in Oneonta. Come to our campsite and drink whiskey, it won't be weird. Probably.
Very good
This song reminds me of the Statue of Liberty...
I get the idea that Soupy actually feels like this. I don't doubt what he said when Hopeless released the introduction video, but you've gotta have some major things going on in your life to write something like this. It makes me kinda hurt on the inside in a weird way.
I have similar thoughts, but I still believe that Aaron West is a truly different mindset... like it's based on stuff that Soupy either is or has gone through but instead of letting it negatively affect him he used it in a proactive way to expand had a songwriter is kinda beautiful.. In a "you'll probably end up crying a lot" kind of way
Austyn Zapf Yeah, I get what you're saying. I would hate to know that he, or anyone for the matter, would have to go through something like this.
Am I the only one that thinks he slightly sounds like Counting Crows?
He really does, never thought of that before
dude yes
And wonder years
It's good.
Soupy is a lyrical god
Why make me cry, Dan? Why? :'(
W O W
So glad Soupy's on Warped Tour ^-^
Don't forget mike Kennedy
Skyler Garrard Mike Kennedy is a bad friend.
So many feels god dammit Soupy is amazing
the guitar is a fender acoustic, the Tim Armstrong signature.
