I don't think non-Charger fans can really grasp how terrible Brandon Staley was as a HC. He was so bad that literally EVERY player regressed on the team, except for Keenan and Mack, who, relatively speaking, spent the majority of their careers with other coaches. Staley is the destroyer of talent. I mean, Staley was so bad that people actually thought that Joey Bosa and Derwin James should've been traded. That's insane!

    • @ernestogastelum9123

Joey Bosa was mainly his injuries. so far, he hasnt been able to play a full season

I agree with you. When I listen to people in the media talk about Staley it’s obvious that they did not watch all the games. It became obvious that Staley had no idea how to work with his players strengths. He was trying to get them to run his system and it didn’t work and he was too stubborn or stupid to figure it out. I don’t know what’s going on these days with most teams but it seems like there’s better everything, training, nutrition, fitness etc, but football IQ for most coaching and management seems to be lower than ever before.

Last year, I saw the Charger's defense click only one time last year. I think it was against the Steelers. They played with energy - in all other games Staley's defense looked like they were just walking through and displayed no energy. But, that one game proved that the Chargers did have the talent. The big deficit was coaching,,,

Big Michigan fan here and have been a season ticket holder so long, Jimmy #4 was QB for the Wolverines at the Big House! He knows football and loves football! If players don't love football, they aren't going to make it with Jim Harbaugh. Bo Schembechler and Mike Ditka were his coaches - how can one find anyone more intense than these guys?? The Chargers will be a winning team and win the Superbowl! Go Jimmy!

Things the Chargers haven't been able to do for the last few years (since 2018):
    Run effectively on first down,
Run effectively on third and short,
Run effectively on fourth and short,
Run effectively with a lead in the fourth quarter,
    Make good adjustments after halftime,
    Hold a lead after halftime.
Good teams do all of the above and hopefully Harbaugh will make it so.

The Past 3 Head Coaches in their first season have all gone 9-7
    McCoy 2013, Lynn 2017, Staley 2021
    (Before adding an extra game)
Now my Expectations for the Season is to have Harbaugh win 10+ games.
He is Way more Experienced than any of those 3 and with the way this team is looking right now should be a playoff team despite Receivers.
Tom brady played with Edelman who was a late round pick and became a Star because of Brady.
Herbert should be able to make any of these Drafted Receivers into a Star…. Idk about Johnston but hopefully Harbaugh saves him.
This O-Line is Monstrous and will be deadly, it even shook Maxx Crosby so we know thats a Great sign, he can’t Dodge Slater no more without dealing with the Trenches.
Lets Bolt Up and Get Ready for the Season.
Charger Football is Finally Back after 18 years of waiting for the Right Head Coach⚡️✅

Jim Harbaugh is implanting what he built at Michigan and putting all the pieces together with the Chargers. Aside from the all-star coaching staff, he's also brought in Ben Herbert as their Strength and Conditioning coach. Remember that as good as CJ Stroud was at Ohio State, the team that Harbaugh built with dominating offensive and defensive lines and a 2-headed rushing attack proved to be too dominant. The motivating factor and mindset with Harbaugh will give the Chargers the edge to go head to head against the Chiefs, just like he did against Ohio State. I am not a Charger fan, but it will be interesting to see how a well coach team performs this upcoming year.

The reason running helps a QB is because the D can't just fill the field with coverage players and take away your receivers and pass rush. With the threat of running, the D has to be ready to stop the run, this means you can't just tee it up and go after the QB on pass rush and you need to keep more players near the LOS which means less players downfield to cover all the pass routes.
People pick on QC, K. Allen had some bad drops lately including 2 in one game - 1 in the endzone and another at the 1 yard line going in. but everyone forgives him and forgets, they didn't do that for QJ.

First time listening. I subscribed :). Love the content! You kept it 100% on this one! I agree that there is no reason a QB should have 40 attempts passing in one game. I do think that that stat goes hand in hand with missing Keenan Allen. I do not think he will be missed on the field because of the type of football the "New" Chargers will be playing with running the ball a lot more but as a friend on the field yes. I also agree that QJ will perform much better this coming season. Hoping within 4 years the Chargers will have a SB Trophy! Go Chargers!!!

The chiefs aren't going to the super bowl for awhile, if at all. Because now there is real competition in that division from a head coaching standpoint and they are building their teams in the right direction. BUT! In my opinion, I think Jim Harbaugh is the real threat to Andy Reid and the Chiefs. Just the moves he been making and the draft picks tells you he know what he is doing. I think they hit the jackpot on most of those picks for sure.

WR 1 is going to be non-existent on this team. It’s going to be a wide receiver by committee. I can see Johnston, Palmer, McConkey, Rice, Cornelius, and Davis all having prominent roles.
As for Herbert, he’s been one of the best QB’s on PFF when he’s under pressure. He’s always been under pressure. This situation can get bad for opposing teams real quick - with Gus, JK, and now Vidal paired with Slater and Alt the Chargers will be daring other teams to load up the box with that kind of speed now at receiver.
Ben Herbert is probably the most underrated coach signing in the NFL - keeping players like Bosa and James on the field is going to be crazy if it happens. And they signed Dupree! Last season Bosa, Mack, and Tuli played 44 snaps together but there was 11 sacks made in those 44 snaps. People are secretly scared of this team - they lack depth in some areas (like Safety) but they are scary in a lot of places.

I don't know but I can see the same with Justin Herbert.
Ok perfect the team is going to be run heavy but we need a premium QB as a game manager for years to come? I think Justin is going to play his actual contract and leave or be traded when his cap hit increase.

I genuinely believe this won't be the average Greg Roman run heavy offense. Yes we will see a lot of runs but Jim also knows who he has at QB and he brought Marcus Brady who also worked with Luck in Indianapolis. The offensive assistants and coaching staff will create a very efficient balanced offense with plenty of creative passing concepts and very dangers running plays as well. I expect Herbert to throw the ball around 28-33 times a game instead of 40+. One thing everyone always credits Jim for is building a staff so I'm sure the entire coaching staff will elevate each other on both ends of the ball. I also don't want to discount bringing back Shane Day as Herberts QB coach. The familiarity will really help his game and transitioning to the new scheme.

Big thing about QJ is that they expected him to step up into the Mike Williams go up and get it role, even when we knew his game was a more finesse RAC type. I honestly believe when it comes to covering Kelsey DJ should be that guy . Most CB's are too small & LB's are too slow. However I'm loving the new culture moves for this team, I'm still gonna miss Keenan and Mike but this season is about change & for the better...Bolt Up ⚡️⚡️⚡️

As a lions fan and Michigan native, ouside the Lions, I’m rooting for the chargers to do work in the AFC. That defense looks nasty(2 alphas), and now Justin Herbert(a former 5,000 yard passer) is protected, and at least has Johnson to work with.
They STILL need to focus on defense. Mack and Bosa ain’t gonna be having a defense where they get pressure and the secondary doesn’t capitalize.
Harbaugh will get value out of his WRS.
Harbaugh’s one weakness is that his ability to discern skill on the pro level is not as accurate as opposed to his ability to evaluate college level players. Evidenced by his first run with the Niners(which ended up in a super bowl appearance). I think he can overcome this obstacle.
Chargers are a playoff team, after that I’m not sure.
PS-the ALT pick could have been the best pick of the draft. Similar to how when is Lions drafted Penei.

This is the first time since Marty that the Chargers have actually had good coaching. They always had the talent, but horrible coaches. But now their front office and coaching staff is looking stacked top to bottom, (maybe besides ownership)

As a 49er fan my opinion of Roman isnt very high. I think he was trying to self sabotage his last year in SF though. But it is interesting that hes basically never had a QB this good. Every qb hes had since Luck needed to be propped up by his offense. Now he has a QB that can potentially prop him up.

Which left tackle goes to the right side? Alt or Slater? As much as everyone thinks Alt is amazing, and he is, Taliese Fuaga, who is strictly a right tackle, would have made more sense, but...🤷‍♂️

Chargers dont wanna ever get into the position they were when Herbert had to shoot it out by air via the Raiders, into OT. From Harbaugh's experience he knows O-lineman are key... Brady, Dickerson knew their line was crucial to the gameplan.
That said, the Chargers need to not or lose their games by 3 pts.

Did you watch the draft? We drafted two pretty good CBs (Still and Hart) in the 5th to play with Samuel. Thats in addition to the Fulton signing and we just signed 3 UDFA CBs to play with him. We will be fine.

Harbaugh said that the OL is the tip of the spear. Agreed. The Chargers will run the ball - and should. I just hope he doesn't stifle Herbert too much.
Herbert is a top 3 QB in the NFL... Actually, I'd take him over any QB in the NFL. When the time comes - and it will, he can put the team on his back, but he needs some weapons. I hope Q. Johnson can develop into an A.J. Brown. It would be unstoppable in the red zone.
Three seasons ago, Staley's decisions cost the Chargers three wins and they missed the playoffs. His decisions didn't improve much since then.

At the beginning of his career Derwin was great a covering TE’s and if I remember right 1 game he shut down Travis Kelce.

Kelce always had trouble with Derwin in his first two seasons, then Brandon came and it wasnt the same. i remember a game 3 years ago where Kelce was a non factor because of Derwin. when Derwin got injured, Kelce took off and basically won the game for the Chiefs

I just hope he doesn’t forget we have one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Anybody can hand the ball off. If it was up to him he would probably rather have McCarthy. Let’s just hope he doesn’t forget Herbert can sling it. I still don’t feel we solved our number one wire receiver position yet, hopefully it pans out

As per QJ drops & Terrible start.... Chris Carter: one of the all-time greats, was MUCH worse his rookie year. I think he totaled 0 TDs, 84 yards on 5 catches all year (not 1 game). He obviously improved. Terrell Owns was on the sideline crying after a couple consecutive drops in the endzone and on big plays against a key game rival. He obviously improved. If you aren't just talking WRs, Adam Vinatieri was one of the worst kickers in the NFL his rookie year struggling to make PATs (when they kicked it from the 3). He became a goat. Bret Favre, Terry Bradshaw, and how about Payton Manning? All struggled HIUGE their rookie years. It's pretty common actually. I think QJ has a staff around him that can get him past that and help him realize his potential, but we also have speedy and reliable Ladd McConkey to help him out.

if all the WRs that we drafted this year and QJ improves turn to be very good receivers. then we would have a good problem deciding which to keep and who to trade.

I didn't want Keenan to go either. He was reliable on 3rd downs. I hope he holds no hard feelings towards the chargers because he knows it's a business and they had to get under the cap. I truly feel like our 2nd pick Ladd could be what Keenan was. Will know how to create space, find holes in the defense and keep the chains moving on 3rd down

Offensive tackle is more valuable than wr. Trent Williams , Penie Sewell, Laramie Tunsil lead teams to wins. Having the top OT in the league is more valuable than any wr including the cheetah, Calvin Johnson…. Remember the rams greatest show on turf was built around Orlando pace who was the #1 overall.
Idk if alt will be great, but I know he should be very good
