Hello, I am the owner of the Ram 1500 Sport 6.5 Bed Rambox model vehicle in Korea. There were many times when I had to sail because there was no tow hook. I saw the video and installed it myself. Thank you and thank you.
The lack of tow hooks on the Sport model was an oversight on my part when I purchased my truck. Thanks for providing this video. Now I have to find some tow hooks w/ hardware :).
I thought the same thing until my truck was stuck in the back yard doing simple yard work. It rained and the ground soften and I was screwed. I had to call a tow truck. I couldn't back up as the deck was in the way
Great video! Helps a lot! The factory L-bracket seems problematic with the Sport bumper. I have the factory L-brackets which has guide pins and it causes the hooks to be too low and rub against the lower part of the opening of the bumper. Your (Jack's) self-made L-bracket appears to allow the hook to sit higher in order to clear the bumper. The video helps me with the amount modify the factory bracket to fit the sport bumper. For people who have the factory L-bracket, you may need to modify it by lowering the holes and ignoring the guide pin or fabricating a new bracket like Jack's to bring the hook up by about 1/2 inch to fit without rubbing. Thanks for a very informative video!
Just finished installing both tow hooks on my 2014 Ram 1500,, on my truck the factory plastic covers, where hooks pop threw,, are two seperate pieces, not like your long plastic,,these covers are secured by 4 screws on each piece,,unscrew the 4 screws and plastic piece slides out,,,two heads up,,,, my hooks have a reference dimple that pretrudes out on bracket that is screwed onto the two factory bolts,,,this dimple lines up with a factory hole ,,,and make sure the long bolt at rear of tow hook also lines up,,or else you might cross thread the bolt as you are tightening it,, I almost did this,,,,
Any idea what torque specs? Also noticed you didn’t use any loctite. Is it necessary? I just hand tightened as far as my strength allowed lol. I have no plans to put the hooks to use but rather be safe to know they’re secured tight, if ever needed.
Hey man, may be a long shot here, but you wouldn’t happen to have the dimensions and blueprint for this fabricated brackets would you? I just bought a set for 20 bucks from a totaled ram and the brackets weren’t available.
I sold my truck but from what I remember is it is a 2x2 bracket about 6 to 8 inches long and I notched the top middle out. I picked the angle up at Home Depot you will have to test for it and then drill the holes.
Thanks a lot Jack. Awesome video, explanation and work. I have a question. How big is the distance between the hooks. I would like to order the tow hooks and a LED light Bar. Does a 32“ light bar will fit? Thanks for answering.
Someone had asked me before it might be in the previous comments. I gave my truck to my son who’s in college out of state or I would go out and measure it for you
Did you search the junk yard or just ask up front if they got any? I'm surprised how often people find good stuff at junk yards yet when I go there all the trucks are stripped lol
Jeremy Dammerich I make a list of things I want and then start asking and they usually let me go back with them. This occasion I found side steps off a flooded truck from New Orleans and then I saw the hooks! It was a double win. But you are right more times I have come up empty handed
Looks great, nice work. Was it that truck that had been stolen or was it a different one? I was going to ask if it is lifted the I saw the way you went under it with ease, remembering the tight squeeze it was for me when I changed my exhaust. I didn't think I saw a video about your lift kit, but I'll double check. If not I'd love to hear about yours and your thoughts on longevity and axles and other parts.
Master Yoda thanks! The first week I had the truck I took it to 4 wheel parts and got the lift and tires. The lift is by pro comp 6” lift and it has extensions on the axles and many other features that make it ride great. Actually better than stock. I have had the truck lifted for about two years now and never had a problem I did take it to 4 wheel parts in December to make sure everything was still tight. And yes that is the same truck that was stolen. About 7k in damage to the front end.
Jack Griffith's Garage I'll check out the kit, hopefully in the future I'll be able to do it. That's a shame that someone stole it, sad world that people do those things and worse. I am surprised they can't figure out a way to make cars theft proof yet.
Hi, your video is exactly what I was looking for, I wanted to do exactly what you did the only difference is that I have a 2017 sport 1500 crew and I have sensors in the front and I want to mount a push bar so I'm getting conflicting info about relocating the sensors to the push bar do you know anything about this and by the way i liked your video, also do you have any recommendations on led headlights + foglights?
moishemgrinberg what model push bar are you getting? Are you going to instal the Ken projectors or do you already have those? Thanks for liking the video!
I feel like a dummy but I can’t seem to figure out how to release the clips holding the bezel. That part was already off in this otherwise great video. Any details on how to remove that part?
Michael Trifman the best advice is get under the truck as close as you can to see the clip. It’s just a triangle wedge real easy to push out with some force. There’s probably 10 or so of them. Maybe get a flashlight to see them it’s kind of tricky.
Jack Griffith's Garage thanks so much for the reply. I very clearly see those clips. Just not sure what the action is. Is there a squeeze or compression to be applied? Am I to push on the bezel to outwardly towards outside of truck or inwardly towards back of truck? Sorry again for the lack of understanding but just don’t want to break either the bezel or the clips. Appreciate any further detail you can offer. Again I do appreciate the time you took to reply.
Michael Trifman have any of them come out yet by pushing on them? The plastic is flexible and you just kind of push down on the triangle piece and push out on it
Great vid.. I want to add tow hooks to my 2014 Ram 1500, but also want to add a light bar under there. Do you know if there is enough room between the hooks to add a say 20" light bar and a place to mount it?
Have you tried to put a front receiver hitch on your pickup. I want to put one on my 2013 Sport 1500 but have not been able to find one that will fit. I tried the CURT website.
The places where you're mounting the bracket and tightening nuts, are those already installed under the truck? I have the same truck, but didn't know if parts of the number/wheel well etc would need to be removed to access or if it's ready to just install once the hooks/hardware come in.

Jack Griffith's Garage ohh okay I see so it only came with one? the bracket you made was to make them fit properly correct? I was disappointed to see that when I tried to install them it would push down on the bumper

I did have to adjust the holes so that the hooks would slide way up to avoid hitting the bumper.
