I have to share: I am watching this video for the first time today. Michael Franti rocks! We live in MN, I'm going to order my 2021 AR190 tomorrow. My wife and I have brought our two children to the Keys a couple of times. I have been learning to sail in the hopes of cruising the Caribbean some day. I have considered the Bahamas, but not in a little boat. I think I am going to tow my little AR190 down there next winter and take y wife and two kids island hopping in the Bahamas. Thank you for the inspiration.
Congrats on the new boat. There are groups of jet boaters who travel to Bimini together every year. That’s were I gathered most of my knowledge from. We decided to travel solo but traveling in a group is always safer. Message us when you go. We’d love to follow your journey.
@@TheJKSquared Thanks for the nice reply. We probably would cross with a group. Safety in numbers. We did buy the boat. Here in MN it makes sense for us to leave with the dealer until the lakes thaw this spring, but ours is ready and waiting for us. My son wanted a TH-cam channel. I created one a few years ago. I quickly discovered how much time goes into editing a decent video. It also started to turn our family trips into extended shoots. Kudos on your videos, they are well put together. I opted to delete our content and channel instead of trying to up my game. Travelin is cool. The keys are fun. So is the Caribbean. We've neer been to the Bahamas and would like to go. To be honest I'd probably fly down and charter a sailboat for a week or two. But maybe we'll take our new jetboat. or maybe get a canal house for a week or two down on Marathon or Cudjoe…. Peace and love man! Good luck with yourselves. Enjoy the world! Disclaimer: My wife and I are nurses. We save and pool our money. We started with nothing and are in no way rich. Anybody can do these things, with or without a channel, if you just work for it and budget responsibly. Its all about priorities. Peace!
Nice video guys! You had some unique video shots and great music. Just made the trip to Bimini with my family in June in our Yamaha 242. Love to see jet boats making the trip. It's so funny to see people's faces when they find out you crossed the Gulf Stream "in that little boat"!
Thank you!! I am happy that you guys made the trip in June as well! It's such a beautiful place and I love hearing of fellow Jet Boaters going over as well! And I 100% agree - the faces of people when it hits them that our little boat was our transportation across the ocean makes me feel so proud that we actually did it. Shoot, it still amazes me that we did it!
I agree w Douglas - we brought 20 gallons of fuel extra and placed them in the ski locker... We didn't have to use them for this crossing, but we did use 24 gallons per way for the crossing so it was good to have them.
But it looks like you had a light load. I would have a total of 6 passengers. Add extra fuel, gear, luggage, etc. with extra weight will probably burn through a lot more gas.
Yeah, we had the 2 of us, light luggage, food, gear, and the 20 gallons stored in the ski locker - your total boatload, the RPMs and how you drive the boat, and water/wind conditions definitely come into play when factoring gas usage. We did decide on bringing the extra gas just in case we needed it.
Very nice video, I was over in June also for my second trip albeit in a 22ft center console. There is a group of jet boaters that go every year so people going for the first time might want to look into that. Looks like you had better weather than our 6/5/16 crossing.
Watching this again sad I can't make the trip in my AR192. just wishing I could make the jetboaters gathering this year but don't have the funds for it this season. Wishing y'all a great crossing and looking forward to the video. ;)
We left on a Thursday morning nice and flat great Crossing the plan was to stay until Monday but the weather turned so ended up coming back Saturday morning and it was pretty rough 3 to 5 foot so we took a beating definitely plan on going again next year but just going to have to keep a better eye on that weather
@@TheJKSquared yes it was rough enough coming back we travelled alone there's a Facebook group Miami to Bimini but no one could seem to get their dates straight but next time I'm hoping the cross with a group of some type
Thanks so much for posting this!!!!!!!! Wonderful trip and video!!!!! What marina and hotel was that u stayed in ??????? If u dont mind what was the hotel rates and the slip fee?????? Thanks Yall!!!!!!!!
Great video; we are crossing next Friday. We are leaving Marine Stadium around 8am. Let’s hope weather remains as predicted. 3 Families, 3 boats (2 Center consoles and our AR195). We did some offshore fuel test run last month; burned about 9 gph, 28-30mph at 5500rpm.
+dezs1775 our boat is supercharged so it does consume a bit more fuel than, say, the SX190. During the crossing my husband kept the RPMs at 6,000, which is the best for fuel consumption - so we were going approx 25-35mph depending on the sea conditions at moments. We love ours and don't regret it.
Hi Luca, the first 30 min of crossing is the toughest. We watched our weather window closely and actually left a day early to take advantage of a better forecast. I'm sure 2 more passengers would had burnt a little more fuel but as long as they were in the stern, I don't think it would had been much of a difference.
Yep!! It only took one tank of gas from Miami to Bimini. It’s about 50 miles and we traveled on average 25mph for best gas consumption, dependent on the water conditions. We carried extra 20 gallons of fuel in case we needed it, but for this trip we didn’t touch it. The boat was a 30 gallon tank.
Being on the open water in a 19 foot boat - not seeing land at all for about 1 hour was surreal!!!!! Crazy amazing, though!! My advice - take lots of Advil bc a boat this small gets knocked around a bit! Haha!
Hey man! Loved the video! I'm from Miami too, I've been thinking on getting an AR190 as a first boat to just stay close and hit the sandbars / do some wakeboarding sometimes, Would you recommend it? Is the maintenance on these types of boats expensive? Thanks a lot man!
Hey Dan. Thanks. Not sure about wakeboarding as I never tried it. This is our first boat and have been extremely happy with it. We get the yearly dealer service completed for about $350. It’s reasonable in my opinion.
The JK Squared wow! It is! Nice man! In which dealer did you get it? I really liked the color correction in your drone footage by the way! Good stuff man!
We live in the Tampa area, purchased our boat from Cycle Springs in Clearwater. I used a polarized lens cover over the drone camera. It seems to do a decent job. Thx again.
@@TheJKSquared Awesome! Just out of curiosity, how many hours does your boat have? Do you think this is a good option to buy as a charter boat for Miami?
Awesome..seen the video about 10 times,,I have a 20 footer w/ 4,3 200 hp v/6 that a bought , I am afraid of the weather and only one engine..i would take a chart plotter.. but coming out of haul over beach is a straight shoot to bimini ..if you use compass whats the setting..are you cubanos ?
+Steve schanze it took us 2.5 hours to get there from Haulover Marina - but we stopped half way in the Gulf Stream for about 30 minutes to just look at the beauty of the water. For out way home we didn't stop and it took about 2 hours.
+TheUndecidedFamily Ours was a 19 foot jet boat - but that was our personal preference. It would absolutely be up to you what you would prefer to have to get over there. We only have experience with our current boat, but I assume the bigger the more room you have and possibly the less you'd feel the waves. You can look for and research other boaters who have crossed and check what vessel they have used. The first people we saw crossing had jet skis and an 18foot jet boat. :)
+dezs1775 the fuel consumption was 24 gallons there and then 24 gallons back with a trip mileage of 55 miles each way. And our boat holds 30 gallons. We brought 20 gallons extra w us and stored them in the ski locker.
how'd your boat handle the ride. what kinda speed were you making. I'm wanting to make this trip in a scarab 195 hoi.everyone on jetboaters.net is making me worried about crossing in a 19ft boat.
jimmyray0682 Any salt water/ocean experience? We averaged 25-28 mph, 6k rpm which was optimal fuel burn. Boat did well. Weather was decent. We did move our initial departure date up one day to take advantage of better weather (weather window). Took extra 20 gal of fuel but did not use it.
Someone taught me “two is one and one is none” when preparing for the trip. Also, you may want to consider an InReach or spot satellite tracker in your prep.
I plan on getting a vhf radio and a GPS chart plotter. I don't want to screw holes in my boat though. I also want to be able to remove everything the rest of the year.
Great video Jason. Well produced. It's hard to focus on enjoying yourself on a trip, being safe as a Captain, and getting "the shot" all at the same time. Great job all around including the editing in post. Question for you, is your bow light stock? My SX190 has a cheesy white plastic one. CONGRATS!!!!! You are going to love it! Time to get your Bimini on!!!
Take extra fuel. I took mine over last year..I have an 2015 AR 192

I'm glad I found this video. I wasn't sure if my ar192 would make it to Bimini with the amount of fuel it burns. Now I am def going next year.
We used 24 gal each way and had 20 extra gal in the ski locker as backup.
AR192 burns about 40% MORE fuel than the 190 series
Yep, the 192s (SX and AR) supercharged definitely comes with more fuel consumption vs the 190s
But it looks like you had a light load. I would have a total of 6 passengers. Add extra fuel, gear, luggage, etc. with extra weight will probably burn through a lot more gas.
