Yeah, I expect a little more from such an expensive tent. I realize folks get this tent for the weight but at this price it should last a long, long time. Thanks Wiley.
I am glad that I found this video. I checked my Duplex (bought in Feb., 2018). It did not have the first issue (tape slipped), but the fabric inside was starting to get ripped on the both sides. As for the last issue (Guy line sticker peeled), ZPACKS might have known it because mines are triangle (pointed down / horizontal line up) as opposed to yours (square, pointed up). Thank you for posting the video.
Wow, thanks for this great info! I guess I need to get the tent out and give a lookover. I haven't noticed any problems with it but I haven't examined that part where the tape is slipping off the seam on the outside. I'm going to set it up tomorrow and see if I'm having any of those same issues. Great Video! I'll let you know what I find out.
I'd like to know if this is an issue with everyone so I'll be watching for your reply. I always take care putting up my tents so I can't imagine mine being the only one. Thanks Paul. I appreciate it.
@@BluecollarBackcountry Hey Tony, I finally had a chance to set my tent up today and look it over and I don"t have any issues with the tape slipping off of the seams at all, it still looks perfect. Like you, I handle my gear very, very gently given the cost. I think our tents are from a different year or specific run because on the inside where you have the square/diamond patch that attaches to the floor mine are circles with the attachment a little towards the top of the circle but still a different design than your duplex. They also look to be in perfect shape so they must have done a re-design on that part. I bought mine in late 2017 and have probably only set it up about 25 times. Anyway, so far, so good! That's all I've got for now, Take Care.
@@somewhereonthetrail Thats good news. Mine has been through some pretty tough weather so I dont know how much that has to do with it but Im sure Ill still get some good use out of it. I dont think the vestible doors can rip any farther either because the trekking pole pockets should stop it at that point. How are the AZT plans going?
@@BluecollarBackcountry Darn, I forgot to check the vestibule doors so I got it back out and they are also in good shape. We'll see how it holds up on the AZT. I was really prepared for Arizona in March so I am really prepared now. I'm hoping to start late September early October and I'm giving myself 60 days to finish but I think I will end up doing it faster than that.
I would have to agree about tape and switching that loop. Great idea to take the time and checkout gear. Something we often take for granted and definitely shouldn’t Seam sealer was a good idea as well. I had a crazy thought the other day as I was updating my first aide kit and put a fresh bottle of new skin in it, had to wonder if it would work in some little situations of gear repair. Hope I can keep that thought in my mind and check it out to see. Have a great weekend
Thats a great thought about the new skin. I've never tried it before. "Interesting" Yeah it's pretty easy to take our gear for granted after we've had it for a while. Most of us have worked hard for what we have and I try to keep it in good shape. It sure pays off huh?
The only issue I'm really worried about is the vestibule doors/flaps. I think with the trekking pole pocket they can't tear completly loose and my tent is 1 year out of warantee so I'll see what happens. I hope yours is ok.
Thanks, I really appreciate it. The loops I think I'll just replace the way I want them. The vestibule doors I don't think will tear any farther because of the pockets for the pole.....I hope!!! LOL
I sold mine a year or more ago. But I would love to be able to check it for this. I wouldnt have thought to look. I'm back to the Tarptent Double Rainbow. And now they have a cuben version of it. But I'll more often be using my Warbonnet Ridegrunner Hammock or SMD Gatewood Cape. Its be nice to use anything at all right now. Hah! Might try to get up to the LBJ grasslands or Crosstimbers Trail in a couple weeks. Thanks for the video. Glad to see some gear and trip videos starting to come out.
Yep, I agree that loop patch is pasted on upside down. Overall, I'd say the seam drift and separation is due to a combination of a mis-cut on the tent material with pitching too tight for the mistake. I've got almost 3 years on mine now too...I need to look and see if mine is taped that way at the top of the pole area.
Those loop patches are really cheap on the Zpacks website. I may call them and order a couple and ask what the best way is to remove the original. I hope yours is ok. Mine is 1 year out of warantee now.
Looks like a beautiful day outside. I would call them and tell them what problems your having. They are supposed to have good customer service. Y'all have a great day.
Yeah, we were having some great weather. Today is a rain day. Lol The Duplex has a two year guarantee so I'm a year out on that. I'm afraid of what it would cost to do repairs but it couldnt hurt to ask.
Interesting stuff Tony. Amazing what you can find out about your equipment when you use it. I wonder how these things get past manufacturers. Thanks brother!
I try really hard not to take any gear for granted and take care of all of it no matter the cost. It's to darn expensive. Hahaha I think Zpacks could have done a little better though. Thanks Doug
Have you brought this up with Zpacks? Even if you're past on the warranty, I would be curious to know what they have to say about it. I kind of expect they should take an interest. Good luck.
Honestly I haven't Don because of the fact it's a year out of warantee. I probably will email them about the vestible doors and see what they have to say since i just found this problem. The loops I can fix easily enough but the doors I can't.
Have a blessed week Tony. 🙏❤
Thank you so very much and hope you're doing well.
@@BluecollarBackcountry Thank you Tony, I'm doing ok.
Thanks for the info on your issues, may help on deciding factors for folks in the market

Lots of time to go over stuff but i seem to have no time. Thank you for showing these fixes to us. Tony. Stay safe
I know Sean. It seems like I'm always busy with something.

Good to hear feedback on the product brother. It’s better to hear from someone who’s used it over a span of 3 years. Good review of it!

To be honest I thought about selling mine but these issues kinda changed that.

Zpacks has an outstanding reputation for fixing stuff like this. Make arrangements to send it in and it comes back reinforced and ready to go.

Did you ever get in contact with the manufacturer and see if they would remedy the damage under warranty?
