College student here....coffee as a meal replacement is A REAL STRUGGLE OF MINE. I basically drink my coffee for my 9am and don’t eat until after my last class around 1pm. And I only eat at the dining hall or cheap ramen and Mac n cheese or cup noodles.
Ramen is 55 cents. If you can’t afford it....are you in college in the U.S?

They can have other expenses put towards with money. Y'all thinking a ramen restaurant is so expensive. You can get noodles in a simple broth with negi on top for like 2 dollars and you can add stuff like toppings for free. They have like ginger, crispy left over bits, sesame seed oil, etc.

As a college student, can confirm that morning starvation and dinner #2 are VERY real things, but eating out that often is most definitely not (at least not for your average student).

I live off of pretty much $50 per week and eat pretty well because I cook my own food but I understand that some people don't even have that luxury

I was that full ride and a job student and I still did not eat like this. No breakfast, snack being a banana or any cheap fruit, lunch at the dining hall and dinner being either ramen, mac n cheese or a quick pasta meal (aka anything cheap).

I'm a 28 yr old with a decent job/salary, and even I wouldn't dream of eating out 2-3 times a day!! Fast food is still way more expensive than home cooking. Not even every day, it's a treat for me usually on weekends or particularly busy days. This girl has got to have some moneyyyy in her family. As a student it would be take out twice a week from a cheap kebab shop or fried chicken shop when drunk, then I'd live off instant ramen, cereal & pasta with tomato sauce for the rest of the time!
As someone who has done research about college students and student loan debt, this video is infuriating. Many students do not have the luxury to eat out or regularly purchase food from vending machines (and this is assuming they have access to either of these - for example, my university does not regularly stock vending machines). 1 in 3 students experience food insecurity or hunger. Where was this in the video? I hope they do a follow up to this because this is how a privileged student eats and not how many students eat.

@@angelathomas6773 Yes, one way students save money is by forgoing food, since it is the one expense many feel they have control over. I have seen students use their student loans to pay off other forms of debt like credit cards or help pay their parents debts.

Maybe she has a job? I work but I also commute to school so I save a lot & spend too much on food. My sister who lives on college campus & doesn’t work struggles a lot more than I do. That or her parents help her out A LOT. Definitely some type of privilege

$7 a day is not even broke. You could get 3kg of oats + 2 kg potatoes for the cost of not eating out for 1 day.

as a college student, my diet is:
Breakfast: greenbeans and frozen burrito OR starving
Lunch: soup
Dinner: a sweet potato and more soup
When I was in college I ate a lot better than this 😅 I couldn’t afford to eat like this girl. I’d eat a can of green beans and a piece of toast for a dinner. It’s like ¢50 for a can of generic green beans and $3-5 for a loaf of bread that would last me a week. PJ and J sandwiches, trail mix, home made quesadillas cooked with butter using corn tortillas and pepper jack cheese with mayo on top (it’s so good). I’d make a mug omelet (usually just eggs, black pepper, and cheese), easy Mac and cheese. Nothing that could go bad quickly, and I maybe went out to eat once every two weeks. No way this girl is a “broke college student” she must spend at least $150 a week for food. I spent maybe $50. She probably has a great paying job and even better paying parents and just like playing the “broke college student”.

•NoØne_ Special• yes, of course! Sometimes I’d use chicken broth instead of the flavor packet (generic was $1.50 and lasted me 4 noodles) soy sauce, garlic and ground ginger. I’d also boil an egg in the water I’d later boil the noodles in. Tastes great, really filling, and it’s not expensive. If I was In a hurry, I’d crush a ramen packet up, open it, pour in the packet, and then eat the noodle pieces like chips. You can get really creative with those things. Like I’d crush them up and put them on pre bagged salads to act as croutons. I didn’t eat them a whole bunch because I don’t particularly like the Taste, but I always had a few bags! Don’t use the pre cupped stuff, it’s more expensive, and not as many noodles. BUT if you do use the cups, rinse the cup out and you can use them as beer pong cups if you don’t have solo cups on hand.

How I are this week:
Weekdays: 2 meals maybe a day because I still have a meal plan
Weekend: one order of carne asada fries that I made last 3 days.
I am very grateful for having my parents with me while in university. I can eat my mom’s food, sleep at home without worrying about roommates, and have the luxury of buying things without worrying about money a lot. Those who needed to skip a meal or two, or not eat a complete meal, I can’t imagine how dedicated you have to be to school to endure that! Best of luck to those who are trying to pass this semester

The only time I ate similarly to this in college was when I worked full time and was in school full time... so eating out was quick and I could afford it.

@@JessicaMary0702 it's not generally manageable imo, I mean maybe it depends on your major but I'm in architecture and I had to stop working full time (or at all tbh). Don't beat yourself up over it though ❤️ getting that degree is the important part.

i’m a college student and i eat healthily... 3 meals a day, 5 fast food meals a week and a salad or vegetable every day. it’s not that hard to make balanced meals when food courts exist

My body can’t take it anymore. If I eat bad/fast food twice or even once a week my stomach beats me up
I'm glad I studied in Finland, I got a hot meal every day for about $3, salad, drink bread included and with several lunch options every day. How can anyone eat noodles and crap like that every day 😩
As a college student I just ate ramen for every meal while I was in school. Just took vitamins and drank a heck ton of water.
Only broke my diet when I was on a break or the weekend xD

My dining hall actually feeds us in an incredible way. I might get the occasional Chick Fi La or Canes because I can use my meal plan there on campus as well. 😂
