    Tip for the power switch. You can disconnect the power switch cable directly from the power supply by just lifting up the black insulation material to reveal the connector. Way easier than removing the screws on the switch.

    Thank you! Stumbled across this video just as my monitor started to show symptoms. So glad to order the backlight in advance. It took me 3.5 hours, and your tips on removing the cover at the start was especially useful (: Lifesaver.

    This worked!!... A few things I did differently... I used masking tape to secure the screen to the bezel on the face... that way when you take off the perimeter screws and lift up. The actual screen and difuser has a bit more support structure. No super glue needed on the end. ... Office Depot 3M permanent double sided tape did the trick. When you remove the strips some of the old double sided tape will come off. Just put some more down. Took about 1 hour. Paid $20 for quick shipping and parts got here within the week. My monitor is now back to brand new. What a difference.

    Excellent video, had the same issue, ordered the strips using the link and they arrived this week.
    It helped a lot that you took everything off to show us what you did.
    Having something ready to hold up the screen while replacing the strips also was very useful as was the tip of sorting the screws...
    I did not disconnect any wires since the back only had to be lifted far enough to unscrew the front.
    To remove the two pins on the reflector you can unlock the base by using a thin knife from the sides.
    I also asked my neighbor for assistance to have some extra hands while lifting the screen and to compensate for the timelapse which I could not use...
    Thanks for saving me a lot of cash, but mostly for the euphoria when seeing my screen fully functional again after an hour of fun construction. Priceless!

    Fantastic.
    Have the same screen from June 2015. Bought in Norway.
    Ordered Led strips on Aliexpress from a recommended link on Internet and they fit perfectly. All screws also so didn't need glue.
    Thanks a lot for this guide helping me through the process dismantling and reassemble the monitor. Now working perfectly after 2 hours job.
    Didn't have a rope, so my daughter was helping me holding the screen while removing and installing new strips.
    Thanks again

    Fantastic video. I am in the UK and bought the same screen perhaps around 2015 too. I am a photographer and regularly calibrate the screen for both colour and brightness. I edit photos with the same room lighting which requires the screen brightness to be set to 120 cd/m2. When I first got the monitor I had to reduce the screen brightness to around 55% but that has gradually had to be increased over the last couple of years. It is now up to around 94% to get the same brightness so I assume the LEDs are failing. I was going to just buy a new one but they are so expensive now for this size. Your video has made me consider repairing it if possible

    My backlights came with adhesive. So even if I couldn't line up the screws (they lined up well) it was sticky all the way down.
    Also, I couldn't lift that white paper bit as easy as this. I had to be very careful and it was brittle as hell. A few tears that I had to repair. But it all looks good now.
    Thanks for the video

    Did the new lights offer any higher brightness? I have two of these, one was replaced under warranty years back and still going strong, the other has just had a band of LEDs stop working so I will replace all 4 of them. The downfall of these monitors has always been the brightness levels. Great blacks, but because the brightness is so low, something like 300 nits. I wonder if there are brighter light strips available elsewhere.

  • @chrisibbotson6367
    @chrisibbotson6367 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just finished spending a good 4 hours repairing my monitor after waiting a good 4 or 5 weeks for the LEDs to come to the UK from China/ Had originally a dark band on the 3rd row from the top. All replaced now I have a dark band along the bottom row. I should have really briefly plugged it in before putting it all back together just to see if the lights all came on. I didnt actually order those in your link in this video as it doesnt mention the monitor model number but after Googling to see if there was a closer supplier it brought me back to the same website though to another set of LED's LED which says "Backlight Strips For Philips BDM4065UC/00". I dont know what to do now, I am not sure if I have the energy to take it all apart again. These LEDs come in 2 halfs per strip with a little connector block to join them They obvious work though perhaps I didnt join the lowest one (thats the one in the tighter space when screen angled up at 45 degrees. Did recently get a new 48" OLED 4K monitor. Was going to use the Philips as a second screen for photo editing and maps etc when using my flight simulator. Might just get a new smaller screen instead. In fact looking at the screen more closely I also see a dimmer vertical band probably on the righter most column of lights so perhaps something else is at fault.

    • @chrisibbotson6367
      @chrisibbotson6367 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thought Id give you a little update on my repair. I decided, before throwing the monitor out and spending a few hundred £s on a new smaller 4K screen (its a second monitor to my 48"), that there was nothing to lose in taking it apart again with the intention of simply getting the front panel propped up and switching it on to see if all the LEDs lit up. As suspected the bottom row were all off. Next stage was to remove the little spikes and lift the white paper and joy of joys I seen that the power connector to the bottom strip of lights was not connected properly. Connect it, went to the wall to switch the power back on and fantastic all lights glowing brightly. Was faster this time in taking it apart and putting it back together again, your video was embedded in my mind as it was so good and concise so thanks man. Uniformity of light across the whole panel is a lot better, there is a bit of shadowing down one side and a slight light leak to one corner but I suspect I didnt have the layers of defuser etc lined up exactly and the white card may not be sitting exactly right. Anyway thank you so much. By the way Brents comment about disconnecting the power cable from the panel rather than unscrewing it from the back cover really did help which was good as I lost one of the power switch screws yesterday and was scared to lose the last one. Going to re-calibrate the screen shortly and see if its cd/m2 brightness has increased as it was getting dimmer before the repair

  • @cb831

    Thanks for a very instructive video.
    My BDM4065UC suffered the same today - I saw one band was dimming and after turning the monitor off/on the backlight disappeared completely and never came back.
    Before today I have seen a little flicker once in a while and also light intensity have slowly been dropping.
    Suspecting the PSU to be faulty I took it apart and found that all power outputs for the "computer" parts of the screen was working perfectly ok, but the WLED- was 9V to GND and WLED+ 27V to GND. That would suggest that the WLED's only get 18V instead of the required 27V. Which will still make be suspect the PSU ?
    How did you decide/foundout that the WLED were the culprit and not the PSU ?
    What voltages did you see ?

    • @willontv
      @willontv 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey mate, any more progress on your screen? Mine is doing the exact same thing - I'm tempted to order the backlight parts, but if it's the PSU or something else, that may be beyond my expertise.

      I just did mine today! Thanks for the great video! I wouldn't have attempted this without it.
      I used a thin fruit knife instead of a razor to remove the clear plastic spacers, and it didn't break the clips, and it worked as well.
      I also used retractable measuring tape, a mic swivel mounted to my desk, and a set of paper trays to hold up the display in mid air, instead of the bungee cord, and that got the job done too.

      @@testandtune6096 yes no doubt the whole strip will go down with an open circuit given they are in series. My second to top strip went out today casting a horizontal shadow across the screen. It righted itself the next time I turned it on. Very fickle. One could wonder what the power supply is doing, but no doubt it's failing LEDs.

      I imagine the market for aftermarket LED backlight strips is pretty small, I wouldn't be surprised if they're by the original manufacturer of the strips. Philips sold their monitor business in 2004 so they don't actually make any of their monitors now.
