As bok fan I suggest that AB fans should be aware of the fact that all countries have increased the quality of coaching and as a result they are playing better Rugby. Knowing the AB's DNA ....they will be back
World Rugby should introduce a "Player of the decade" award... Because I think Eben Etzebeth is player of the 2010's... and so far player of the 2020's (and will probably still be around by 2027). He started his international career at such a high standard in 2012, and only got better and more influential. One of the (if not the) greatest locks of all time.

More Aaron, Angus and Steven please. The dynamics between Goldie and JK are tiresome and childish. Not entertaining to anyone but themselves and Kirsty.
The point is that ABs are not as dominant as we were used to in the years 2011-2015. And a gap has been created for the 2019/2023 World Cups. Razor has a lot of work ahead, mainly looking for alternatives to return to winning and convincing. Hugs from Brazil.
All players that have retired or moved overseas from the 2023 World Cup squad: Sam Whitelock 153 Aaron Smith 124 Brodie Retallick 109 Dane Coles 90 Richie Mo’unga 56 Nepo Laulala 53 Shannon Frizell 33 Leicester Fainga’anuku 7 Total: 625 tests I would have loved to see what Ian Foster’s coaching record would be without all these experienced players to choose from. Even with all these experienced players to choose from he had a 69% overall winning record and 33% winning record against top 5 opposition. He didn’t have a winning record against any of the top 5 teams (South Africa, Ireland, England, France).
Because the players that set the blueprint for Graham in 2004 weren't there. All blacks set a standard that the rest of the world has now caught up to. The ABs are about to enter another 2004 phase. That took a while to get some steam. Smith was 9-5 before Graham. AbS are setting a standard again for example pace.Which everyone's forwards found out this year, fitness needs to come up.
I think maybe we should be brutally honest about where this All Blacks team WAS before we start assessing where Scott Robertson IS. Too many people are willing to overlook the past four years and point to the World Cup final, where they lost with but one point. Truth is, however, about that world cup, that Ireland could have easily beat NZ, France (and England!) could gave easily beaten SA, Argentina could have easily let it slip against Wales and even England were almost upset by Fiji. We were all really, really close. But what about before the world cup? Record 35-7 hiding against the Boks in 2023. First home tour defeat against Ireland in 2022. First defeat against Argentina in 2021. The All Blacks were definitely on a decline that has been gradually taking place over the years. After the class of 2015 departed, it took a year or two for the cracks to show, but the record wins over a very subpar Bok side placated the fanbase. The Lions tour of 2017 though, was the first real clue that maybe the All Blacks weren't as good as everyone thought they were. First defeat to Ireland happened and finally, the 2019 semi final loss to England removed all doubt about the shifting of the balance of power. Is this a pretty picture? No it's not, but before you can gauge how Razor is getting on, you need to be honest about the backslide the All Blacks have been on. While bleeding new players, playing a few different game plans and experimenting positionally, Razor I think successfully arrested the drop in quality. Yes, 10 wins out of 14 is not great by the standards of ten years ago, but judging by how narrow the losses to France, Argentina and South Africa had been, this side is still one of the best in the world. While no New Zealand fan is going to be overjoyed by being third on the rankings list, even the most cynical supporter have to admit that this does not look like a team that will suffer a 35-7 defeat against the Boks! Sometimes you need to play the long game and accept that you are currently not where you want to bet that you are building towards that. Yes, the Boks are currently better. And in 2025, the Boks will probably still be better. But what about the year after? Or the year after that? Give Razor some time. Let the man cook.
As a young rugby fan I was always amazed by the quality of the punditry and the insights from NZ. Guys like JK And Goldie really spoiled that. We need actually rugby fans with real insight. Not people who try to be sensational for clicks.
It's our midfield attack that is holding us back. It hasn't been anywhere near the standard of Smith and Nonu. Jordie and Reiko aren't the answer. France, Ireland, SA even teams like Scotland and Aus have a better attack than ABs right now.
You know it. Many others see it, too. ABs lack the Ma'a, Conrad and Sonny ability in mid-field. Clarke is staring Robertson straight in the face for 12. Billy with a wee bit more bulk, too. You need line-breakers, through both strength and guile, in the mid-field to the create space for the wing, the roaming wing and the full-back. And it isn't there
@KernowekTim yeah if Clarke can add good off loading in the tackle and a chip to his game. But I'm not sure that's his natural game. He doesn't have the natural vision. The only time we ever see ABs busting through the centre is when Satiti or Savea are out there.
As a South African and A springbok supporter and a Southern hemisphere supporter, I think you guys and gals ( pro commentators) all seem to miss one thing. If the Boks or the All Blacks, every team out there, when they face us (Boks or Blacks) they up their game to such a high level. This is also the time when those apposing players throw everything into it since this game time is when they can showcase to their selectors their value as a player. We will win but it will never be a runaway win, and we look like we did not do so great. Frank M
First off, I'd like to congratulate the NZRU, the All Blacks players, Coaches and Back-room Staff on a very successful Northern Hemisphere tour. It was, as always, a pleasure to be graced with your presence. Long may it continue. The All Blacks played some outstanding rugby, as ever. Well done fellas. Springbock B (with how many WC starters on the bench?) team lost to Argentina and as great as your 2024 year was, you still lost at home against Ireland. France had an undefeated year in 2022, nobody really cared. You're best team remains the best, but not by a huge margin. You could have lost all games against Ireland same for the games against NZ. You won, good job, but you're not as dominant as you think. WC were only 1 pt wins. Far from the AB dominance 10 years ago. So your B team is far from n2 spot, especially that it's not a proper B team if you have some usual starters in the 23. France's B team (real B team) actually won in Argentina this year.
LOL you're still on a draw vs Galthié (France since 2020) with a 1 point victory on each side. And we still didn't feel the integration of South African teams in the European Champions cup. You guys boasted you would win them all at the moment you joint. You barely made a semi-final since then...what a joke.🤦♂️
I do think SA are the best team, but they are seriously overrated by Saffa fans. They're the best team by a smidgen. This pretense that they are destroying other top teams is hilarious. And they also only count the games they win and pretend the others don't exist 😂
Touch grass mate, South Africa is forced to pick a team not based on merit but on colour yet we still win. We playing our worst rugby in nearly a decade and are under no delusion that all is well. Personally I’m glad we no longer in SR,, it’s opened a lot of eyes as to why NZ really isn’t all that and never was
3 of the losses were away games. Twice against the nr 1 team away and the third a 1 point loss to France away. Not the best year yes, but also not in the doldrums. Not far off
Scott is an awesome coach and will build the ABs to being something great again. It's so irritating to have all the armchair coaches who do nothing constantly complain that Scott isn't better than Fozzy. Give me a break, seriously we lost SIGNIFICANT experience in players that Foster just had handed to him from Hansen. Robertson is pulling us up from a huge hole that Fozzy plunged us into, yeah we are obviously on the way up.
Individual performances - like against Italy - can go up and down but New Zealand are solidly placed at third in World rugby. That is where they are at now and where they were at previously since 2019, if we are honest. The inertia is from every level of performance in my view - School, U20s, internal club competition, Sevens... even the woman's game! It is hard for any coach to shift against these trends but that is what New Zealand has assigned Scott Robertson and co. to do. A 71% is entirely on par and average but the margins of improving (or falling) are very slight. Had a single 1-point margin of victory be reversed against France, then the ABs would be going up significantly. Things to improve: 1) The pack is performing well in set pieces but still losing in the collision area in almost all matches. This puts pressure on attack and defensive systems and is the reason why the All Blacks are not scoring enough tries against teams like France, Italy and others. The addition of just one bigger framed ball carrier in the back five - either at lock or in the loose forward mix - would make a huge difference. My great hope is that a player like Fabien Holland might step up and push one of the All Blacks current starting locks to Blindside, but this is just me, perhaps. 2) Build strength in depth. This also means less of the carnival of picking senior players that are unlikely to be playing in the 2027 World Cup so some players may need to be sounded out now. So, no more Sam Canes and Perenara's 'last matches' and more risks with younger players. 3) The team needs to back itself to win more and take risks in the second half. The team still seems uncertain how to win games when it matters. The one exception to this, and the best performance of the year, was against Ireland. this match needs to be reviewed again. What did they do right in the game rather than things they did wrong in other games.
I see Sir J Kirwan is in doubt whether France is the best team in the world as they didnt prove that in the world cup. How this is still a point of debate is beyond me
Gus is spot on! The rest of world rugby has caught up with the All Blacks, and lets be honest, this current AB team is not on the same level as peak AB from 2011 - 2015. The Springboks are now the benchmark since 2019 and beyond. Teams like Argentina are a legitimate team and can beat anybody on their day. Goldie needs to let go of the past and judge your new coach according to THIS rugby climate.
Jeff Wilson was sugar coating all the losses by getting completely outplayed and poor performances in 2020-2023. In fact he dismissed the worst loss ever to South Africa (35-7) at Twickenham saying South Africa can’t play any better rather than criticising the All Blacks. He never had a problem with losses to Argentina in 2020 and 2022. He never had a problem getting smashed by France and series loss to Ireland. Just dismissed all of them as ‘learnings’ in the build up to the World Cup. He never critisised Foster when he lost 6 out of 8 tests in 2021/2022. Go rewatch those videos if you don’t believe me. He has a personal vendetta against the current coach Scott Robertson because his favourite Foster didn’t get reappointed. Now it’s just personal vitriol masquerading as ‘criticism’ against Robertson. Suddenly he has now become this big All Blacks critic after years defending every loss and poor performance under his favourite coach Foster. Now season gradings and winnning % and comparison to previous coaches record has all become relevant. Where was all this when Foster was accumulating all those losses and putting out poor performances? You never really cared about the All Blacks, you’re just angry your preferred candidate didn’t get the All Blacks job. Just a hypocrite.
Relax it's just some banter between rugby players and former rugby players, not everyone has the same feelings as others and that's fine to express that.

JK seems to dislike players who have gone overseas. The super rugby has become a washed down version of what it was. Can NZ honestly afford not to have their best talent playing for their team? Does NZ have enough depth back home to keep bringing in the best players for their team? I also feel that teams no longer fear the haka like they used to, and it has somehow lost the aura it once carried, and I say this with the outmost respect.
In my opinion, as an old-timer, the ABs mid-field line breaking punch is absent. There is are no consistant line-puncturing/ class off-loaders in contact. No 12s that force more than two defenders to deal with such a threat attacking their line. Remember Ma'a and Sonny. You need those types of men at 12. Clarke, if he has the ability in him and could be brought to it, might provide it. Bill Proctor, with a wee bit more bulk, has it in him in heaps.
Let the boys play overseas. They going to learn and grow a bunch and bring it all back when they play for the AB's. Evolve with the times or risk falling behind...
Give them a break, long season, lots of changes, more to come, and Italy are not the same as a year ago, massive step up for them. As for percentages, games are tight. could go either way. Patience, you are building well.
Its difficult to assess where ABs are right now coz they had all these negative issues in and around them but still got to the WC final and just lost by a point. If they would've won that match, none of these convos would've happened. But ultimately, all other teams leveled up. The McCaw era had easier opponents
I totally agree, Richie played most of the match with a concussion and if only one of the three missed kicks would have made it NONE of these conversations would even be happening. Drives me nuts how our pundits think unless we run undefeated every year that we are failing.
@ because they were going through their picks for best Springbok, and they didn’t mention him, yet he won world player of the year. So that’s why they probably should have mentioned him you chop.
Look the all blacks should allow foreign based players to play for the all blacks. The all blacks xv can be reserved for domestic players. The all blacks should be for domestic and foreign based nz players.
I don't find the loss to Argentina concerning, it was the only well earned game. Argentina played amazing. More concerning is the first loss to SA when SA played some of their worst rugby all year but still beat us. Opportunity lost. Ireland played just as bad but we scraped in. All of the good changes were forced by injuries, the opposite of good coaching.
If you guys sack Scott Robertson - you'd lose one of the best coaches in the world rugby. He will turn the AB's into one of the best teams in the world. AB's played all the top teams - and so many of those games were AWAY - SA x2 , Ireland, France etc. He's a straight-shooter, and a very inspiring and dare I say "followable" man - like our hero-coach Rassie - from a Bok supporter (obviously). Did the other coaches have that stacked a line-up of opponents AWAY, that factor in their W/L ratios?
Ireland played 2 away to SA 1 away to France and away to England , lost 1 less game than SA this year and the world believes Ireland is falling apart. Social media rugby , clowns that know nothing about rugby.
@@davidwalker2402yeah i find it funny. 3 years out from the next World Cup, idk why everyone’s overreacting for the abs and Ireland. Plenty of time to build up before then.
@@davidwalker2402difference here is the AB,s have a new coach and half the old team have left, SA just beat them. Pumas may have won one but got trounced by 40 in return game and lined up with the toughest tour knocking off full fledge teams Ireland and Eng going down one point to France says a lot for this All Black side.
Rugby as a sport is completely lost. Fans don't even see it. I grow up watching rugby before it turned professional but today the running part in the sport doesn't exist any more. I saw periods of dominance from teams, with an unique rugby philosophy. I saw light weight packs destroy big packs. Today it doesn't exist. Counter attacking tries from quick lines out, breakdown turnovers on the regularly. Today it doesn't exist. Today the philosophy in rugby across the board is the same. Have a big pack which excel in set pieces. Win the middle third with an accurate kicking and aerial game to force errors(knock on and scrum for penalties, obstruction penalties, breakdown penalties thru turnover). Gain entry into 22 with a kick or kick for points. Options if you enter the 22. Lineout driving maul, Or strike move from it. If you gain momentum, play off 9 or pick and go with the forwards. If you narrow the defense. Options play short pass to ball carrier. normally center. Or out the back with depth runners or cross field kick. Oh! by the way... Every nations adopts a narrow rush or press defense system. THATS RUGBY IN 2024 FOR YOU.🤣🤣🤣
I am a life-long old ☘supporter. In my opinion, winning two consecutice RWCs, as well as current form, dictates that South Africa's Springboks rule the roost at this time.
I dont know what Jeff Wilson is on,All Blacks can be better, but the days of any rugby team dominating as the All Blacks did a couple of years ago, rugby has evolved, and so has other teams, there might be the od occasion, but come on man
How was he thrown in at the deep end? He has been hanging around for the AB job for ages and was appointed before the WCup started. He had plenty of preparation time.
The brutal reality is that South Africa have won FOUR Rugby World Cups, New Zealand TWO, Australia & England, ONE each! You’re obviously thinking that I’ve forgotten something, no I haven’t! The 1987 and 1991 Rugby World Cup tournaments should be removed/deleted from history as the Springboks were NOT there to compete, and a WORLD CUP is not valid if the most dominant rugby nation are not in the competition. This also means that South Africa have won 50% of the World Cups they’ve contested! Think about it, imagine a FIFA World Cup tournament without Brazil or Argentina or Germany???????
The old adage is true - You play to the level of your opposition and how opposing teams see the All Blacks is different from the other teams they play. The history says the team to measure yourself against is the All Blacks. Italy played like a Bag full of cats yesterday, it was a really difficult and disruptive side to play and the flow of the game, created by the refereeing team made it worse. It was very stop start.

Domination, as it was, is basically over for the ABs. One cannot deny that, as was mentioned, that the rest of the world has caught up. To deny it is arrogance, at best, and comes from those who do not accept change. Same with overseas players. They go because of money and to be able to take care of themselves and family as no one knows how long their career will last. Australia did not go "backwards" because of overseas players. Poor, uninformed comment by JK to justify his position.
Razor is now realising that international rugby is much different from super. This would really boost his confidence for next year as he needs to get his mode out of the Crusaders environment which I am sure he will and looking forward to next year under Razor's leadership. One thing he has on his side is his winning instinct at any cost.
Angus is great but come on now. The ABs season as a whole was at best a C. Barely beat England 3 times. Ireland didn’t show up. Got to Australia before they started to evolve. Dropped to Argentina at home. Should’ve closed out the Boks in at least one of those games. Should’ve closed out France. And that Italy game was terrible. This falls on Razor and his selections. He let his Crusader bias call the shots in too many key areas and it cost them. I’m tired of hearing excuses.
There were never unfair expectations about Razor coming in, Razor sold himself as THE solution and forced NZ Rugby's hand in announcing him as the next coach just before the world cup. An unprecedented situation. The media and fans flogged Foster but Razor has largely been let off. But is it really a surprise that a coach with no international experience has struggled to get his first international team firing on all cylinders???
Honest assessment: all blacks results against South Africa and France and Ireland are the only results that matter. England will always be tough but I expect abs to beat them. Italy no disrespect to them, is pure vibes. It doesn’t test Nz and see where they really are on the map. The real questions only get asked when they play the top 5 nations in the world. Nz will and have fallen off because the homegrown competitions such as super rugby and Npc aren’t competitive and European leagues.
I am an AB fan. Under Scott Robertson NZ has absolutely no chance whatsoever to win against tier-1 teams on their own strength unless the opposition had an awfully bad day (Ireland) or NZ is incredibly lucky (England). He is the worst coach NZ probably ever had. I am surprised no-one has the guts to say it. They just beat around the bush and ignore the elephant in the room. His strategies are childish, the team selection is ordinary and tactical coaching is literally non-existent. The team motivation is next to zero at this point. You can clearly see it in people. If AB fans need some consolation, they will win against teams such as Italy (unconvincingly), Georgia, Namibia or at best Japan etc. This is the lowest ebb AB have ever hit. Take action soon if you want this great team to turn things around.
No, I’m pretty sure the lowest ebb was losing 5 straight in 1998. Or that 2007 WC quarterfinal. Let’s not get that confused with a new team rebuilding under a new coaching team with a 10-4 record.
Excellent observations by someone who has accomplished nothing and who's most exciting point in the past month was typing their self righteous yet pointless ramblings on youtube. 👏

Excellent comment. Agree with you 100%.

@@stealthpakfa & even worse is Kirwan.

Mills deserved to stay.
@@KernowekTim Rieko doesnt pass.. thats the issue. Same issue Adam Ashley Cooper used to have at 13 with Australia.
Scott Robinson would have more wins, just a very good South African and French side. He will win a world cup.
Good show tonight! Slow start for Razor but I'm sure the ABs are going to be back to their best soon. 🇿🇦

Safe flight home to all who are heading back down South. As for the 'World Rugby Awards'? Let the continual whinging and trolling begin/continue. Done 👍🏴☠☘

Huge improvement from last games from All Blacks. But they need to keep improving under this team and this coaching management. Excited to see All Blacks in coming years. ❤ love and respect from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 ❤

"C'mon man" - Joe Biden voice
Personally I’m glad we no longer in SR,, it’s opened a lot of eyes as to why NZ really isn’t all that and never was
Enjoyed the show in 2024. Thanx guys.
No mention of Beauden overtaking try count for ABs?
3 of the losses were away games. Twice against the nr 1 team away and the third a 1 point loss to France away. Not the best year yes, but also not in the doldrums. Not far off
Greatest aspiration of any coach is to win the world cup
Give the coach the time and space to do what he needs to do
Scott is an awesome coach and will build the ABs to being something great again.
Goldie + JK are great, but GUS is A tops and Crudz is A+++! 👊👊👊

Sweet. Definitely fancy a trip to Chicago for the Ireland vs New Zealand game. That could be a great weekend in the Windy City. 💥 🏉 🍻
Things to improve:
1) The pack is performing well in set pieces but still losing in the collision area in almost all matches.
Good points.
great show guy!
I see Sir J Kirwan is in doubt whether France is the best team in the world as they didnt prove that in the world cup.
How this is still a point of debate is beyond me
Is Jeff Wilson New Zealand’s David Campese? Stop talking nonsense Goldie.
amongst the top 4, it is an even field, it has to be a mix of power and guile to make the very fine winning margins.

Love this show!
finally we saw our best back row against the French. Next season: our attack

Go Gus, you got it!
Good 🇱🇰 luck, New Zealand 🇳🇿
Its difficult to assess where ABs are right now coz they had all these negative issues in and around them but still got to the WC final and just lost by a point. If they would've won that match, none of these convos would've happened. But ultimately, all other teams leveled up. The McCaw era had easier opponents
I totally agree, Richie played most of the match with a concussion and if only one of the three missed kicks would have made it NONE of these conversations would even be happening. Drives me nuts how our pundits think unless we run undefeated every year that we are failing.
Not even a mention of Pieter-Steph du Toit haha.
Don't stress mate, it's objective, an opinion is like an a-hole, everyone has one, no different to you
Why should they mention a south African player on a NZ talk show? And why would you expect that? Kinda strange.

I don't find the loss to Argentina concerning, it was the only well earned game. Argentina played amazing.
More concerning is the first loss to SA when SA played some of their worst rugby all year but still beat us. Opportunity lost. Ireland played just as bad but we scraped in.

It was very stop start.
for a change i agree with jk

The world rankings should show two SA sides on 1 and 2. 3 All Blacks. South Africa will dominate in foreseeable future.
You must be young or not a student of history?

Is it not the case that he is rebuilding?
Honest assessment: all blacks results against South Africa and France and Ireland are the only results that matter. England will always be tough but I expect abs to beat them. Italy no disrespect to them, is pure vibes. It doesn’t test Nz and see where they really are on the map.
The real questions only get asked when they play the top 5 nations in the world. Nz will and have fallen off because the homegrown competitions such as super rugby and Npc aren’t competitive and European leagues.
Time to move from, we need to own it, re another average performance, back to the, be brave, which is what Razor used to be known for.
