The craziest thing is anime is at an all time high in popularity globally but game devs can't seem to make a good anime mmo.
They can't make a good MMO in general. Investors push developers to impossible feats. Most new mmo games are made for the mobile market because of the big number of players on a phone compared to console and pc gamers especially in the asian market. However by doing this their games won't ever reach their potential. MMO's are a concept to be played on a PC or very least a Console with many years of development and funds put into and well thought out features and story.
It's impossible to make a "good" MMO. It takes time, money, and player interest that's impossible to achieve unless you got lucky during the golden age of mmos like WoW and FFXIV. This genre is DEAD. Devs need to stop wasting time on MMO slop
@@phabejmuas they should let korean or chinese do the game
@@lawfulgoodnun1646I wouldn't call WoW and FF XIV being successful due to luck. WoW was THE premiere MMO, and basically defined the genre as we know it today. FF XIV 1.0 literally failed and got rebooted from the ground up, and remade into basically a new game. Making an MMO isn't easy at all.

@Eisi0wns While I get what you are saying but the constant misuse of "Boomers" really kills my brain cells.
My great grandparents, as well as my grandparents, had no internet. They played outside and road bikes during their childhood.
Mmos didn't even exist until the very late 90s into the 2000s, so it's impossible for a "Boomer" to even touch an Mmo unless their children or grandchildren got them into it.

Also, is it possible for them to sell the IP to a different company? I'm not sure how that will work out tbh, but maybe someone can tell me if it's possible.
tencent has buyed the ip since they will release a mobil version of this game, proberly really shallow p2w cash grab ofcourse
Make a singleplayer game based off Blue Protocol's story with coop. something like granblue fantasy relink
Bandai already sold the rights to Amazon and Tencent, and Amazon has cancelled their plans, too. At this point, Amazon would need to sell the rights to someone else, which could happen since they have no plans for the IP. It depends if there's another developer willing to buy the rights.
Same. I already expected it ngl.
Expected but still extremely disappointing bc there's literally no alternative
This one hurts. This game had the base potential to become the most popular MMO in a very long time. There were some fatal flaws that ultimately killed it. Amazon didn't do any favors with there insistence on censoring the game effectively killing the hype in the west. I would love to see someone purchase the IP and put in some quality work to resurrect this game...

Total speculation but they didn't seem to have any new areas planned beside what they already have. Which leads me to believe they are working on a new PSO experience with what they have learned from NGS.
This is the result of terrible leadership and direction, imagine sitting on a gold-mine but no one knows how to extract the goods inside. FF14 is always that example that comes to mind, when something has potential and how switching up who is at the head of the wheel can changes things to an insane degree. Modern games have an entire history to study and learn what works and what does not yet they continue make the same mistakes over and over again.
Older MMOs get into a min max rut over time. Even the devs start to prune fun mechanics to force players into a rotation. All the while white knights suck up and attack anyone who even questions.
MMOs are in a bad place to be sure even classic reboots like wow classic get hit with cash shops and the like.

The biggest issue with most mmo is that they strive to make every player the hero and that just isn't realistic if an mmo were to be true people and stories are built from playing... Eve online which you didn't mention probably has the best lore and history of any mmo and it's player driven, heroes are people that made themselves heros. More games need to stop trying to make everyone happy and the hero... people need to make their own stories... the best memories I have in wow or archage has nothing to do with the story of the game but interactions and wars or events with other players. Mmos truly shine when players drive the narrative.
amazon curse strikes down another promising title. This sucks I was hoping finally we would get a non gacha anime MMO.
I wasn't so hot on the amount of control Amazon was attempting to place on the project. Their localization plans were a major turn off for me.
this ironically had nothing to do with amazon
Why blaming amazon?
Do you commenters even know what a curse is It doesn't mean they are to blame directly or that I am blaming amazon directly it just means what ever they get their hands on whether their fault or not turns to crap or gets cancelled in this meaning.
@@treysar3044 Isn't Bandai Namco though known already from closing and scrapping projects without thinking much of salvaging ? If anything it's Namco curse.
I was positive this game was DOA with AG in charge for global and their direction to "modern audiences" so... I'm not surprised at all 😂
Fk even Hoyoverse are saying good bye to this game
I remember the times when people called this game the Genshin Killer.
Honestly I can't say I care much about the MMO genre anymore. MMO lites still are fine but the big ones I just don't find exciting. They are all so safe or dull with the gameplay
Yup. All our tastes are slowly shifting!
i hope someone from the company publish the files, so others make private server for it
That should be easaly possible, since in WoW privat Server exists like forever
I just woke up and I see this?, man, I lost fate. I just build my dream high end PC a week ago because I wanted to be ready to play the game with ultra settings. BD, WoW, GW2 were fun but I really wanted something else. Now Bandai namco will make only mid games of dragon ball and SAO... I guess we won't have a GOOD a new MMORPG in a really LONG time
What the FUCK dude!? They really strung us along this far and cancel before we even get to try it. State of mmos is dire man.
I still have a glimmer of unrational hope that there will still be that one action, free to play mmorpg i will be able to afford and have fun with
I think what hurts the most is that the people, the suits, who are responsible for this not only do they not feel the sorrow we feel, they never will and they will never care. They're the "it's just a game lol" people
If World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, and Guild Wars 2 die then the MMO genre basically dies.
They will never die untill these 3 make their successor MMOs
Which sucks, because I got sick of WoW in 2010, am bored of starting and stopping GW2, and I don't even consider FFXIV an MMO. It's just a story heavy single player game with some social side content features. There is BDO, but it demands that you submit your entire life to it to properly enjoy it so that's out too.
Why no one can put together an enjoyable, modern and vaguely innovative MMO after all these years is beyond me. The only things coming close are Star Citizen and Ashes of Creation. At least one of these will probably never come out (that could really go either way..). The one that remains may end up being trash despite everything.
Nothing else coming up that seemed interesting enough for me to remember. Archeage 2 will be a pay to win trainwreck, but it'll probably be great for about 3 months. And consume your entire life, and wallet along the way.
The genre is already dead. It's impossible to make a successful MMO these days. The novelty of mmos is over. Devs need to stop wasting their time on mmos
MMO is dead
OSRS is the best MMO today by far, its not even close.
Who still play these 3 games you said?
I'm not even that disappointed, when February rolled around and there was zero news about a release date, I knew it was probably over then and just stopped looking up news about it.
Blue Protocol never had much potential, it had many issues early on and the JP lunch showed that.
this makes me so tremendously sad...for all of us 💔
I was so excited for Blue Protocol i was more interested in it than Genshin Impact by a fair bit.
Ironically, it was ever since Genshin Impact released that the MMO genre lost its niche in the video game industry
@@christianboustani8284nah mmos died a long time ago. Like 2015. The last MMO to get lucky with popularity is FFXIV every game after that is guaranteed dead after a few months.
following this game for years, I always felt like they were going to fumble the bag. I wish I was wrong. I just didn't expect it to fail in Japan so quickly.
Whelp, back to PSO2NG and FF14 I guess?
Btw, these devs can create cash grabs Gacha, but not an MMORPG with Cash Shops. Let that sink in.
MMO is a dead genre now. I remember 10 years ago I was playing 5 or 10 different mmo at same time. Now I don't even play wow..
Bro is avoiding naming Throne and Liberty like if his life depends on it.
Good. Wishing for a game to die or be DOA just because it's not of your liking only hurts the genre and other players that might enjoy it. Now the game they were coping so hard for and tried so hard to make it seen like the superior one will never release. Oh karma the oh mighty you are... I have to laugh
I’m super pissed about this news Blue protocol was the number one MMO I was looking forward to nothing came close. Blue protocol was the main reason why I started playing Genshin impact to hold me up for its release. Now since it’s gone, the only hopes I have for the MMO genre is the Riot MMO and the Hoyoverse MMO. And I pray to God that those don’t flop or I think I might just be done with the MMO genre in general.
Deserved Amazon never release anything to South East Asia After New World for some reason and for those who think it's Bandai look again there is Amazon symbol next to it
sure Amazon was for the localiziation in the west but with much Censorship etc
mmo is a very complicated achivement now days, i think this game will be better to be released as a pve co op game based on story. If they can release story and progression as it unravels i would be ok with it.
Tekken sufferes extreme monetization because blue protocol couldn't get its shiz together.
Smfh.
Bandai has no idea how much of a chance they’ve missed out on. If they tried the global release it could’ve saved this game. I was so excited to play it. They are really screwing up now by canceling and shutting it down. This may cause a severe loss of trust to deliver quality games now.
Wasn't this originally supposed to have a simultaneous global release (before Amazon got involved)? Can't help but wonder if the game could have succeeded if that had happened. The western release being delayed (and inevitably censored) didn't do the game any favors.
No. Bandai never intended to publish this themselves outside Japan. Therefore no simultaneous release. That's why they looked for a big publisher to do it. Maybe Amazon was the only one interested. Who knows. But no amazon did not interfere with a simultaneous release
No. It was supposed to come out the same year, but issues with the game(JP version) delayed the western release and ultimately killed it.
stop spreading misinformtaion.
@@iflgames3245 Asking a question is disinformation?
@@mattgreen753 you did not ask a question you made an innudeno implying that amazon and politics was the reason why the game closed down. Nice try troll.
As someone who purchased most of bandai's "AAA" JRPG/Single player titles (due to IP only), I can say with confidence the moment blue protocol is linked to bandai was known to me, i was already having a `watch and see attitude` lol.
While their "AAA" games are pretty fun (for the IP enjoyer), personally do not think they warrant the price they put on, all their games are "only worth if discounted" if you're not invested in the game's IP.
BAMCO is japanese version of actiblizz. Absolute trash corporation now, so pathetic. I remember thinking to myself when BP was announced "well at least it has a big publisher behind it, so it will actually make it to release"... This is so disgusting. the game they showed off years ago looked fun enough to play (my personal opinion) and now we will never get to experience it. Truly a missed opportunity. Terrible corporate greed ruining another project with great passionate developers and an eager fanbase. Sadly, we can just say "what's new?"
I agree. Bamco released a statement back in November of last year saying they were going to focus on quality since their games had deservedly developed a reputation of being anime licensed cash grabs that weren't very good games and tended to be buggy. That kind of describes Blue Protocol unfortunately and that is why it failed. I still see many people people in the comments that still believe that Amazon is somehow the villain in this game's cancellation, but they aren't. I'm disappointed in the cancellation too, but maybe if it was in the hands of better company than Bamco it would have succeeded.
I'd throw Konami and Square Enix in that lot as well.
Anyone else remember Outriders? I would bet money that the moment Square Enix remembers that's a thing, it's on the chopping block. And to quote J.S. fucking Sterling, son, Konami is Konami, and Konami is the worst.
