    Really excited people like more CAD videos, since I enjoy making them. Here's a quick Q&A for your top questions:
    Will the files be available for download? Yes, I'll include a complete STEP file and a bill of materials with the build video. It's not a tutorial, but everything will be free (to download, parts cost is approx. $400 USD)
    What is this modeled in? Everything is modeled and animated in Fusion 360.
    Why servos for (X) mechanism? Servos are cheap and easy to source. I like to build things that are more approachable and if I use exotic/custom parts, then fewer people can replicate it. This also keeps costs and wiring complexity down since everything's designed to run off of a 2S LiPo. I like the simplicity of that.

      idea for the sentry: the size looks like it would be more like a mini sentry, so maybe make it look more like a mini by painting a checker pattern on the... round casing... also add a little alarm to the top to bring it all together (not the screw as it is much more important)

    I think you could have managed to get the horizontal turning action on the top hinge without compromising the hinge design at all. Using flywheels and gyroscopic procession, you may be able to get it to rotate by placing said wheel in the round housing of the head assembly. This would likely be even more expensive, wildly complex, incredibly unnecessary, and may not even be possible with your launching mechanism and barrel action assembly, but I thought it was a cool idea.

    As a 16 year old trying to self-learn 3dmodeling and engineering, i would love to know if this program you used to model the design is fusion 360 or some other program. The work you do is insane! I couldnt imagine even modeling a single screw of this terrific turret!

      Well you started wrong there. You don't model screws on F360 you just add them from a downloadable catalog.
      Jk, it is a really powerful yet easy to use software that I recommend to everyone starting or experienced. I started using it like 5 years ago when I bought my first 3D printer and haven't stopped ever since. It is what got me into chasing an Industrial Design degree

    This is super cool. I was sort of surprised to see that you went with a servo for the recoil--if I'm understanding you right it'll need to rotate both clockwise and counterclockwise for a full fire cycle, right? Have you considered using something like a RC drone motor hooked up to a drop cam to get a nice quick recoil motion, followed by a smooth recovery, all while having your motor only spin in one direction (i.e. fewer sudden rotational accelerations). I'm guessing you've got really good reasons to go the route you did, but it's always interesting to hear about tradeoffs that had to be made.

    • @MrVolt
      @MrVolt  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A few reasons: I already have tons of servos on hand, it can travel the full range of motion I need at the speed I need, it keeps cost/complexity lower for other people to build, and I generally try to keep to one actuator type in a build if I can,.

    For the barrel, another idea I had is to spring-load it, and have a mechanism to just push the barrel forward and let go. The loaded spring may be able to provide a satisfying, snappy kick-back more easily than a servo.
    (Technically, it would start in the primed/loaded position, then when it "fires" the mechanism would let go, move back, pick it up and push it forward again)

  • @AUSPetrol
    @AUSPetrol 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The recoil on the barrel could also have been done with a motor and cam shaft type thing, then you could make it retract quicker than it resets (I feel like that would be more realistic?) based on the cam profile, and set rate of "fire" with motor speed
