Looks like the tip power for this new 888DX is 65W, same as for the old 888D. However, the power used by the new 888DX is 100W vs 70W of the 888D. Do you know why the new unit uses more power?

Thank you for your comment. It is now available an optional 95W soldering iron dedicated for the FX-888DX station named FX-8806.
FX-8806 needs soldering tips T32 series.

@@BatterFly2002 Thanks so much, after I posted the comment yesterday I realised that the 95W iron exists and forgot to edit this comment. Very useful to know it does not use T18 tips but T32 instead, thanks for providing this info!

FX-970 use to have the knob. FX-971 is the successor model of FX-951. Thanks!

@@BatterFly2002 FX-950 has the knob but it is analog. FX-971 has the same bad design as the FX-951. Not intuitive. I just got the FX-888DX to replace one of my FX-888D stations. I have FX-951, FM-203, FX-888DX, and FX-888D. The new design of FX-888DX is the best. I would like purchase another soon! I also have the Weller 1010NA but do not like it at all. Hakko is the best!

@@salmanrashid6245 Yeah, FX-971 is not really a successor. It's almost double the price of FX-951 and tips are incompatible and more expensive etc. It doesn't seem to be very popular. There are virtually no reviews on it. TBH, the T12/T15 irons are probably good enough for most jobs and the third party T12/T15 stations are good enough for light users. JBC clones are popular when better performance is needed. I use Metcal, Pace ADS200, Hakko FX88D and Weller. I may switch to all T12/T15 compatible stuff to make it easier and lower the cost of consumables.
