- The Don Carlo contest! Everyone was asking for this one, and it a fun one to put together. There are a lot of baritones here! So take your time and give them all a chance. Again we will use a 1-5 rating for singing and characterization. These are the singers and dates of performances:

Unbelievable singing and acting of one of the most noble ever scenes of all opera history by Great Verdi, inspired bby sweet Schiller. Carreras, such a stunning actor, and Piero (here 60 I guess) simply divine. Bravissimo

"Despite being a baritone"? He worked with his natural gift and did beautiful, extraordinary things. Just because he wasn't a bass or a tenor doesn't diminish his greatness.
Cappuccilli was simply Divine and one of the TRULY great ones who showed us the glory of the baritone voice!!!

Unbelievable singing. Simply incredible. But how can someone be such a consummate artist in one regard and not act at all or make any sense of the text? I’m puzzled!
It is very sad that the operaworld have lost one of last great Italian lyric/dramatic bariton,I am afraid we have to wait long time for a new of Cappuccilli standard.

The overall sense of my comment was enthusiastically praising. What I meant by "despite being a baritone" was that, unfortunately and unfairly, they do not often get all the public recognition they deserve. I think we are agreed on most things here. Best regards.

Cappuccilli sublime. Ma furono tutti bravi in questa storica edizione diretta da Abbado con una splendida regia di Ronconi. Tempi d'oro in cui non c'erano follie, ma lavoro e denaro da investire per essere eccellenza.

He was a super star is clearly. Remarkable ability and control. Just does not excite me. Zancanaro, with less power in his voice, is strikingly more pleasing in tone and color. This baritone has a forgettable color to his voice. Nothing special. Top notes always sound barking -like.
