In the 1960s, the US military tested a psychedelic called BZ on its own troops, to study how they could use it as a weapon. The results were shocking, but drugs have been used in the military for as long as humans have been fighting each other. Today we take a look at this taboo subject.

A family friend who served in the army in WWII remembered Benzedrine. He always had a lot of sympathy for returning veterans of the Vietnam era who were rounded up for drug use, when, as he said it, it was fine while they were getting shot at, and the US was the dealer, but let them come home and buy from someone else...then you're busted.

Joe is probably about to mention it in the video and I’m just being impatient lol but it’s a really good movie about how they used to give psychedelics and Crystal meth to people in the Vietnam War and this guy comes home from the war and he’s really messed up because of it and then continues to go on this esoteric search for these entities that he found while on drugs in the war.

I saw a TV show about Air Force bomber pilots. These New bombers that fly around the globe for their missions require the pilots to stay awake for several days on end. So the Air Force has a pill they take so they don’t get sleepy. No other side effect, just you never feel sleepy. There has been much pressure to release the drug for other uses, but they keep it to themselves as a top secret weapon, giving them an edge over other countries. And you know if it ever got into the private sector people would be killing themselves with the stuff, trying to stay awake for months on end.
Not militarily related but new research into micro doses of LSD are showing it a promising treatment for Parkinson’s disease. The horrors of MK Ultra was because they used such massive doses. They ruined people’s lives and sent many to the nut house for the rest of their days. Because they were using hundreds of times what would be considered a normal dose.

I'm a veteran of the USAF (1980-1984), and I applaud this video. In my experience, the things you've said are correct. While stationed in Germany (West Germany at the time), some of my buddies and I would make weekend road trips to Amsterdam to smoke hash & weed about twice a year. I once got a surprise urine test on a Wednesday after one of these trips, but it still came back clean & nothing was said. I knew one guy in Germany who took LSD regularly but eschewed weed & hash. He said the acid was a much better high, and it could only be detected via spinal tap. At least that's what he said.
Plus, the military tacitly promotes the use of alcohol by urging the troops to patronize the on-base enlisted & NCO clubs. While I was in, they also had no restrictions on us possessing all types of booze in our rooms.
So though they're officially anti-drug, they're actually anti some drugs (narcotics, weed, hallucinogens, nicotine, etc.) while pro alcohol, which is itself a drug.

I'm pretty sure you meant regular old amphetamine. Modafinil wasn't developed until the 1970s, and wasn't prescribed until the mid-90s. Amphetamines OTOH date back to the late 19th century.

I'd really love to see a dedicated video on the experimental PTSD treatments currently being worked on. Apparently, micro-dosing psychedelics during therapy is extremely promising. - And/or a video which lays out the history of the VA screwing over us vets. Which continues to be a problem to this day. Albeit with improvements since I got out.

Thank you both for your service, as we are seeing with recent pLandemics, the "system" rewards drug companies and their brainwashed dealers (aka MD's) Pfiser can't charge the VA $7.50 per dose of magic-mushrooms, b/c ppl know they grow for free in cow-s__t. The Veteran's Admin "didn't" study cannabis, or the endo-cannabinoid system post Vietnam?
WHY THE F____ NOT??? (Ketamine may HAVE saved your life, but how many lives has cannabis saved?) As a former SOC-M "doc", maybe it's not the compound that helps, but rather our belief in that compound? Happy Independence Day and MUCH respect! TY!

I'll "third" that request!! I know I have PTSD, but the VA says I don't, just depression and anxiety issues. The review was done via video conference by a PA. Sad state of affairs the VA is in. 😔

Ketamine is definitely getting a lot of attention these days for this sort of thing. MDMA seems to float in and out of favor in experimental circles but never really seems to break out into regular use.
I'd recommend looking up Alexander and Ann Shulgin, as they were pretty much the foremost pioneers in the realm of psychedelic therapies going back as far as the late 70's. In fact, Alexander Shulgin is pretty much responsible for synthesizing the majority of the 2C* family of drugs like 2CB. Him and Ann wrote a pair of books going into great detail about the effects and potential applications for a wide variety of drugs in the phenethylamine and tryptamine classes, PiHKAL and TiHKAL. He also just happened to invent the world's first biodegradable pesticide, Zectran. Old dude put in work.

I knew a guy who worked on an amputee floor at a military hospital and they would routinely give solders "medical" LSD to help with phantom limb pain. The guy mentioned it was super weird watching these soldiers missing limbs tripping thinking they're limbs were still there. Apparently it actually helped them accept the loss.

He joined as a perfectly functional person, got put through some experiments (massive doses and obstacle courses, etc), came back messed up in the head and violent, got hospitalized and eventually lobotomized, then died. He never even got to meet me as a baby I don't think, if he did it was only once when I was newborn then he died shortly after. I'm not sure, but that's what I was told by my mom and grandma.

I recommend "The Immortality Key" by Brian Muraresku for anyone more interested in how drugs may have been used in history. It was a huge perspective shift for how I viewed our ancient ancestors and how our moral judgment on psychopharmaceuticals is a very recent Western trend. It made me think "witches" may have been the earliest psychiatrists.

Hi Joe. I got a question completely unrelated to the video but wasn't sure where to post it, so here goes. If i was to go back in time, abduct a newborn baby, bring it back to today and raise it like a normal child, how far back could I go so that the baby would grow up to be 100% undistinguishable, both physically and mentally, from today's humans? Not sure if you've already done a video on this in the past. Thanks and keep up the amazing work.

Thanks for bringing to everyone's attention the flippant attitude towards testing on soldiers. I was in the gulf war. One night our platoon leader walked around handing out pills from a bottle. He was ordered to hand them out, we were ordered to take them. He didn't even know what it was. I was raised to trust our leaders (I know, naive), but for some reason alarm bells went off in my head. When the platoon leader looked away, I chucked mine over my shoulder. That night, half the company was violently ill. To this day, I wonder how much of Gulf war syndrome was caused by that pill. Ross Perot funded a study that (supposedly) found evidence that it was caused by those pills, but that study was forgotten. People should be going to prison for that crap.

in 2021 the death rate of the usa not related to covid has gone up 40%. the life insurance companies have all had to pay out way more for death claims of people 18 -65 . so the inference is that the covid vaccine was heavily distributed and has caused way more deaths from "other causes" . i have had 3 shots and i got covid 3 weeks after the second. 1 week into covid i had muscle spasms in my abdomen. and now since then i have had all my muscles breaking down and no test can explain it.i heard some people who only got the vaccine have had terrible muscle spasms. so is it long covid or the vaccine?

From my time in the military all i can say is this.(it's can be a good sometimes) (BUT) If given the chance get out early they most would. Its full of people who cheat on there husbands and wifes. Most have alcohol problems, just being apart of the military culture can cause high levels of depression and stress. They push that just keep going even if your breaking mentally and physically mentality and when they do break they are called weak. Then they love talk about how they want to help suicidal soilders but then when they come out about it they get shunned or looked like they are crazy. They also love to try to help people find the Christian god. Its toxic and I dont recommend joining ever.
