Fatma Said records "Aatini Al Naya Wa Ghanni" أعطنى الناى وغنى

Based on a poem by Lebanese-American poet Gibran Khalil Gibran, "Aatini Al Naya Wa Ghanni" (Give me the flute and sing) is "a particular favourite" of Fatma Said's within the program of her debut album, El Nour. Discover: w.lnk.to/elnLY
As Fatma explains, "The poetry is very symbolic and philosophical in feeling, and the way we developed it in the studio with the musicians was extremely special: some of them had never heard this musical setting by Najib Hankash before, so there was this beautiful lack of any expectation of how it should sound, and we all improvised spontaneously, listening to one another. It was a creation of complete bliss."
With Tim Allhoff (piano), Itamar Doari (percussion), Henning Sieverts (double bass), Tamer Pinarbasi (kanun), and Burcu Karadağ (ney flute).

It's a well known poem, I don't remember now the poet's name. Badr Shakir As-Sayyab maybe? Or Gibran Khalil Gibran? And the song was sang by Fairuz many years ago. It's so beautiful.

@@VOXIISTلا شكر على الواجب -- and among cool nuances the translation gets: "... and YOU sing!" -- one could picture a boy jamming a bit on flute, and a girl flutist who just met him, and suspects he can sing better than play flute, trying to take the flute to accompany him while he sings -- but the girl ends up singing the whole song -- and whoops, the software seems to want to mis-locate the Arabic phrase and garble some of the rest, I tried to put the Arabic at the beginning --

I found a rare treasure tonite with this lyric soprano Fatma Said. Her voice control and good commanding tone coupled with unparalleled support from the various instrumentalists, the rustic flutist in particular, is magical. Though i hardly understand the lyrics, the song really sinks in my psyche. Amazing and Bravo from Singapore.
