Grim Fandango is one of the best games ever with its dialogues, characters and places. Top point of black humor. As 90 percent of today's games continue to be a soulless products that doesn't make any sense other than high graphics, the value of grim fandango is increasing at a faster rate every year it gets older. Thank you for this masterpiece.
Wholeheartedly agree. This, and the original MYST (and the sequel, Riven - but all other "follow-ups" in this supposed saga are kind of dogs chasing their own tails, or "squeezing a lemon til the last half-drop", lacking the original flavour and aura) are absolutely "number one" in my opinion. Ex aequo, since they are in different genres, so comparing them would be like comparing apples to herrings. And then there's this Starship Titanic thing, which is, unfortunately, a great potential wasted, if you ask me - kinda half-baked and rather on the wanting side as far as the storyline and logic of the puzzles are concerned, but I digress here.

The fact that double fine cares about their fans so much that they put their heart and soul into every product and share these sorts of videos is why they are my favourite devs of all time (however they are tied with halo 2 era bungie lol)
OMG Grim Fandango was one of the first game I played on PC and is one of my favorites of all time. Thank you so much because this game opened so many doors about culture, music and meaning in my life.
Still one of my favorite adventure games ever. I'll always remember that whole night club chapter of the story. It was such a clear loving homage to Casablanca, while simultaneously having so much fun with the characters and unique art design that I still always admired it as its own thing. It's cool to keep learning more about the inspirations and thought processes behind the project after all these years.
Just finished playing for the first time what a great game the dialogue story and mood are all amazing! Had a blast, some puzzles really hard and had to use a walkthrough but still made for a wonderful experience
One of the finest examples of "video games as art" - every little part (plot, music, graphics, voice acting etc.) is at the same time completely distinct and yet a part of a cohesive whole. Absolute masterpiece.
Thank you so much Tim, the old LucasArts team, and the current Double Fine team for all of your contributions to this game, past and present. It really means a lot to a lot of people, myself included!
I hope all the people behind this wonderful game still have bloomed careers as a result and have found continued succcess under their fantastic abilities. This artwork is unforgettable.
If you like the latin Pulp vibe of Grim Fandango you really should treat yourself with the Novels of Paco Ignacio Taibo II. Especially his Hector Belascoarán Shayne novels
Grim Fandango truly is one of the best games I ever played. I never played a game witch art style and music touched me so much, I would get back to it as often as I do. This video just makes me want to replay the game for the n-th time, thank you!
This is great! Thank you Tim! We met twice at PSX once in 2016 and the next in 2017! You signed my copy of Psychonauts and Brutal Legend, I was hoping to get Grim Fandango signed this year but unfortunately PSX won’t happen this year. You and Double Fine are a huge inspiration to me and I hope that we can meet for a third time some day. They say don’t meet your heroes but I say go for it, you were very nice to me and made me want to pursue my dreams. Thanks again Tim!
Honestly before i played Grim fandango when it first released on Ps4. I never thought that it would end up being even better than the Monkey Island games and i'm a huge fan of Monkey Island.
Really cool! Just started playing for the first time. City of lost children is one of my favourite movies so I can't wait to see which parts were inspired by it. I actually watched the film partly because i knew that it inspired the classic fallout games which are some of my favourites
I’m legitimately shocked Disney didn’t arrange some kind of cross-promotion with this and “Coco,” either for its theatrical run or debut on home video.
Love? Love is for the living... and for Grim Fandago. I've been playing games all my life but there's two that I love with all my heart: Planescape Torment and Grim Fandango.
The two are also my favourite games... both addresses the topic of death (or the lack of it) in such a different and complex manner, that they compensate for each other. And now I want to start from the Mortuary again...
So many interesting influences and ingredients to such an awesome adventure game... Low-key waiting for Psychonauts in a semi-patient, semi-passive aggressive mindset ;p
I remember seeing the 'coming soon' ads in the PC Gamer mag. I thought, well that looks weird. Turns out to be my favorite adventure game of all time. I have the original soundtrack cd that came with it also. Every time I play this game, I click all the dialogue. It's just too good not to! Now I would toss out all of my coffee mugs for one like yours!
Rarely does a game's mood and atmosphere capture my imagination like Grim Fandango did. :P Granted, I only got to play it this year since it was popping up on Steam and I figured: "oh yea it's that scary skeleton game i remember seeing as a child in a gaming program (i think it was a review of it)", but I think Manny and friends are gonna haunt me for the rest of my life. In a good way :D And who knows, maybe I'll bump into Glottis one day in afterlife.
Tim's beard is gone, I'm officially scared. ^O^ But really love the shout-out s that continue to pour in through these old games. While I was only ever fortunate enough to get my hand on the PS2 version of Psychonauts, its a really blast to learn about these older games as I slowly discover them for a first time. Can't wait to see what comes next from you guys in the near future. ^=^ Also, amazing mentions of what made this game, the music especially! And now I really want to check out that Sweet Smell Of Success movie. Great video here, Tim!
excuse me..... that manny mug........... i need it...
Ahaha! My thoughts exactly. Where can I get it lol

grim fandango favori 2. oyunum
grim fandango and twinsen's odyssey 2 will be forever my fav games

I love this game so much
that's not on fire!
Tim you can't hold up those Manny Calavera mugs and not have a link to buy them
This is by far one of the most interesting commercials for a video game.
Grim fandango 2 : Something's even more rotten in the Land of Eternal Rest....... Still dreaming :-)
Tim commentary never fails to make me laugh.
Also, I can't believe I can go out and say "You know Manuel Calavera has the Adidas logo on his head?"

I'm surprised you didn't mention Pixar's Coco, which was clearly an inspiration for Grim. Just as Inside Out inspired Psychonauts.
Wait.
It's not like ex-LucasArts employee Steve Purcell words at Pixar or anything, either :) (Love Steve Purcell)
Tim responded to my tweet about this. He said it's coincidence! They just drew on the same source material, he said.
@@yao4738 You need to read the little word on the third line, dude xD
Grim Fandango is, for me, the best game of LucasArts
No question
indeed
Grim remains one of my favorite games. So glad to see it continually getting love.

Now we have Psychonauts 2 can we have an open world Grim Fandango, please?
One of the best game i've ever played to! Timeless classic!!
God imagine a Grim fandango tv show or feature film

Where can I get one of those Manny coffee mugs?
at the end of the world
There's nothing at the end of the world except a coral mine.
@@TheArtkaw That's at the edge of the world, there's a rack for mugs at the end.

My favourite game, great to hear the things that inspired it. Grim fandango inspired my 3rd year animation final film at university
got a link?
I hope all the people behind this wonderful game still have bloomed careers as a result and have found continued succcess under their fantastic abilities. This artwork is unforgettable.
I got a crush on this game
The MANNY MUGS!!... you must release these as merch... must have!!!
Grim Fandango is to this day my favorite adventure game
If you like the latin Pulp vibe of Grim Fandango you really should treat yourself with the Novels of Paco Ignacio Taibo II. Especially his Hector Belascoarán Shayne novels
Which one is the best?
Where can I find these?
Where the hell can I get that mug
Seriously! I have to have it.
at the end of the world
Grim Fandango truly is one of the best games I ever played. I never played a game witch art style and music touched me so much, I would get back to it as often as I do. This video just makes me want to replay the game for the n-th time, thank you!
Can be made into an animation movie
Yes, pretty please. I would love to see that.
Grim Fandango. One of the most touching and beautiful games I've ever played.
Beastie boys known to let the beat..... DROP
This jewel needs a new remastered edition with lastest graphic engines, and whole sound suite. Its perfect but this game deserves more exploration.
Grim was such in inspiration to me as a kid. Lucas Arts luckily filled my childhood. Thank you all.
The best and most remarkable game I've ever played. Thank you for your work of art. cheers from brazil ♥
This franchise needs to be rebooted … genuinely don’t understand why cult classic game sit collecting dust!!! Soooo much potential to expand the world
This game is the game that made me realize my birthday November 2nd fell on a truly amazing and Unique holiday.
Awesome video, thank you for the efforts put in to share. Greatly appreciated seeing this (24 years after first playing the PC game!)

I love grim fandango so much.

If you by any chance read this, please make another! I adore this game so much, the music, the characters. Magical
Possibly squeal after the success of psychonaut 2 ? Also where psychonaut 2 ?
i never get tired of these "making of" videos
Thank you so much Mr Schafer. Always remember that story
Really cool! Just started playing for the first time. City of lost children is one of my favourite movies so I can't wait to see which parts were inspired by it. I actually watched the film partly because i knew that it inspired the classic fallout games which are some of my favourites
i love how a video game featuring scaring away skeleton pigeons with balloon 'animals' of robert frost as a puzzle was heavily inspired by casablanca.
so much respect for you TIM and all the rest at DOUBLE FINE!!!!
Finished this game today, I cried at the end. Miss this game already 😢😢😢
One of the best games ever
... has to be more stories to tell in this universe. Please, Tim!!
I’m legitimately shocked Disney didn’t arrange some kind of cross-promotion with this and “Coco,” either for its theatrical run or debut on home video.
Now do one for Psychonauts!

I think Pixar's Coco owes a lot to Grim Fandango.
Grim was such in inspiration to me as a kid. Lucas Arts luckily filled my childhood. Thank you all. (I also got to be the like between 999 and 1k )
Tim is the coolest guy.
I
NEED
THAT
MUG
also that was awesome. i wanna go through all of those books and stuff. love grim so much

I beat the game today for the second time in my life. First one was when it came out. Why did it take me this long to replay it? Masterpiece.

Please! You must create a physical artbook for this masterpiece!
Thanks Double fine and Tim for this interesting video.
Best game ever. Thanks for doing this video! Brought back some great memories playing this.
I played it on my ps vita, thanks for not ignoring that platform. I love to play adventure games on it on the go. :)
hope you guys do this for your other games, this was great!
Love this game. Had the original version box and all bought it brand new. Still have the travel guide manual too.
Im ready for psychonauts 2!
Cant wait for the sequel!
I just got the remastered soundtrack on vinyl, sounds really good lots of tracks I don’t remember hearing in the game. Good recording too
More videos like this please! So enlightening!
Never knew that Bioforge was an inspiration !
Between Discworld Noir and Grim Fandango, do I even _have_ to watch Casablanca anymore to see what the fuss is about? xD
Thhis game needs a full remake!
Tim, please convince Disney into a deal to make Monkey Island 3a with Ron and David, get the old band back together and make the true sequel to MI2.
I learned something about Grim Fandango _and_ the Beastie Boys!
Hermoso! señor Tim Schafer
Tim's beard is gone, I'm officially scared. ^O^

wow 8 inspirations...pretty cool
*Tim pulls out Switch*
PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Best adventure game ever made.
I got my hands on the 20th anniversary edition from Iam8bit. So happy to finally own my favorite game on physical.
Cool, I wish more devs would do stuff like this.
Man.. and I always though you has just ripped of Pixar's Coco and called it a day. ;)
Well, I’m sure you’ve seen flying spiders and flaming beavers, but trust me, it gets worse!
You see, I’ve been to the edge of the world and back…
Just bought and beat the game on the Switch. So fun!! I love the worlds you create.
Pura cultura, saludos desde México 🖤☠️
I still got the original PC release, which I'm happy to own.
Pity about that spooling error, though.
I always thought the tri-brow was lifted from Mickey Mouse's gloves.
I also think Chinatown should be added to the list.
Grim 2. When? Please, Lord.
Thanks for announcing this awesome game for Xbox recently 👍😎
Where can i buy that mug?!
at the end of the world
So I'm playing for the first time and I'm stuck on the balcony trying to throw the tie line...
Haha seriously
I will make a Grim Fandango noir film one day...
