I really enjoyed hearing and seeing the whole process (including the dust collection hose popping off ;) ). The pace is perfect. And nice work with the push sticks at the table saw! I may well have to make one of these. Great video!

The curvy push stick is based on Matthias Wandel’s design. I kind of prefer the long, straight push stick, though. Really keeps your hand far from the blade. Got a set of those from my father in law when I first got my table saw. I only use one now because I smoked the other one in the blade. Better than my fingers though!

I like projects from reclaimed wood. Except for power drills and a hand router, I'm working in a small space without power tools, so this table may be just beyond my reach and skills, but I enjoyed watching and may steal some of your ideas down the road.

Classic build. I’m in the process of making several mini workbenches for several of the work carts at work. I’m in the aviation industry and sometimes I need a small bench to transfer fittings for hydraulic pumps, Integrated Drive Generators(IDG’s) and other things. The rear of a truck hitch or cement floor is getting old for me. I’m also making a mini carpenter’s bench and I’ll definitely incorporate your ideas in it. Thanks.

Wish I had a big workspace :). Maybe in the future, but for now I work with a dremel, a few pieces of wood and a chair as a workbench. But it does not diminish my sense of accomplishment, more so when I finally finish a project (current one is rebuilding a swiss army knife with brass scales and liners :)).

Good work. A few suggestions on technique. You can save a bit on planing by using a plastic dead blow mallet to bang on the wood on glue up after clamping. The wood likes to move around as more pressure is put on the object. Also, the grain of the legs go cross the grain of the top. If you create a slot by wallering out the holes lengthwise on the legs, it will allow expansion/contraction as the season changes.

5/4/2018 USA Grandpa Bill: Andrew, it is impossible for me to nap with all this industrial noise in my headphones. Your crackling masculinity of vocal resonance is at a decibel level reserved for trail drivers pushing cattle through Texas. You woke me up from my autoplay. Worse, you've made me covet. COVET. Now, I have to go roaming the streets searching for an oak futon in a city where cheap metal and phony oak are supremely suckered onto the earnest but unknowing. The oak drawers I salvaged in the rain three days ago turned out to be chipboard with oak veneer. That's a beautiful job, Andrew.

Nice mini bench - Noticed your main workbench - built an identical one 30 years ago - still in use...

If you are worried about the screw holes stripping out, fill the screw hole with thin ca/superglue or nail varnish to reinforce the food.

Enjoyed your work and commentary. Have you ever tried to use a vinegar-steel wool mixture to stain-dye oak? Soak the wool in vinegar over night, then lather it up the next day. The liquid doesn’t look like much the next day but works great.

not a criticism, just an observation: with the speed and angle of the camera on the table saw, you could see the blade and fence deflect. It makes you wonder why it's so important to align the fence within a few thousands of an inch. :)

This is the age of mini workbenches and people that still believe that red sawblades are the best because so much YTers use them ( Freud is owned by bosch and the diablo blades are overpriced for my opinion) Nice work!
Thanks! I know I like my red blade, but that might be because it blasted through wood compared to my burned up cheap Irwin blade...
@@AndrewReuter Off course it works better than the cheap manufacturers blades that came mostly with the puchase of a saw. But, in comparison with topblades they are overpriced but good to sell in US. one off the top seller for proffessional tools in germany is "contorion". they have freud not listed and there must be a reason for that!
I've had the chance to use this table a couple of times now. It's fun to whip out in front of people:) I can see what people are talking about when they say the legs are delicate, but they're design to support a "mostly" vertical load, not be torqued from the side or pushed back into place. If you just let the table open or close on it's own and don't force anything, it works great th-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh Once it's set up, it's pretty solid. My only gripe would probably be related to the clamps provided. They're not the highest quality. They do the job, so no big deal, but they could be better. All in all, pretty cool gadget.

Isn’t a mini workbench only as stable as the surface you clamp it to? I have considered making one as I have a small shop, but that question always causes me to pause.
The surprise was that my legs fit between the legs when I'm sitting down, so the workbench doesn't have to be clamped. I just needed something to hold the piece so I could use both hands and be able to turn the table around as I work. The detail work takes a long time and sharp tools don't require force, just stability. It was a back breaker to do it on a regular bench. Too much leaning over if that makes sense.

If you are still thinking about building one, I’d recommend going for it. It is pretty great to get the workpiece up just a bit higher; can always work on stabilizing the clamping surface as needed later. But as long as it’s not uneven and rocking, I think most work surfaces would work for this. Good luck!

Didn’t write them down, so I asked my mom to send me the dimensions: “Table: 22 &7/8"L x 11 &7/8"W x 1&7/8" thick, Legs: 2&7/8 high x 1 &1/4 thick, 11&5/8" wide at bottom, 9&1/4" where they attach to the table”
