I have a theory that the magic carpet wasn't just travelling, it's teleportation of some kind. During the moments between frames and scenes we could assume that the carpet teleported to another location in a blink, because they're above clouds most of the time, it'd be hard to spot the differences, allowing them to jump their way across the world like a sci-fi movie.
It was said that this story was Chinese in origin. Considering another famous Chinese mythical figure, the Monkey King from Journey to the West, has a nimbus cloud that could travel 108 thousand miles in a single flip, the magic carpet being imbued with similar traveling abilities isn't beyond imagination. There is also a form of mystical arts where long distances are shrunk into mere inches, so taking a couple of normal steps would put you hundreds or thousands of miles from where you started. Also an ability that can be imbued into the carpet and activated at will.

I guess he added some level of protection to Aladdin so he wouldn't be killed like that. Obviously Jaffar almost killed him, but that was far more direct and no amount of bending reality would have saved him, besides Genie's direct interference.
I haven't actually seen the live action version, but to be fair to it's version of A Whole New World, Jasmine was kept fairly sheltered to the point where she'd have to sneak out to see just the area's around the palace. For her, being able to see a bunch of the relatively local things she's never gotten to see in her homeland before _WOULD_ be magical.
I wholeheartedly agree, and it made a lot of sense in the context of what Jasmine becomes by the end of the film. I recommend the live action version. Some minor bits surpass the original, such as the Sultan not being a bumbling idiot, Iago being less annoying and Aladdin apologising for his lies instead of trying to justify them ("I tried to tell you").
@@JB-mk3owPersonally, I think that the live action makes more sense and answers some questions in some bits like why was genie still blue and able to do... genie things like float or fly even when Aladdin set him free in the animated movie and what happened to the genie afterwards
If its a magic carpet created specifically for flying, probably by so sort of wizard, it's probably got a physics-proof magical forcefield. At least, I'd definitely put one of those on my flying carpet
a magical force field could be a solution for that, but the movie itself didn't show any evidence of that, during the ride they touch the clouds and the wind clearly have an effect in their clothes. Also, when Aladdin is escaping the Cave of Wonders, a big rock hit them and there was no force field to protect them.
@@luisoncpp I mean, the force field could just protect them to not be affected by the speed and environment and reduce it to like what they used to on land
I actually support your comment here, but there's a twist to it. See if you watch Aladdin again, you'll notice that the time period of the movie is a dystopian future, where the civilization took a reset. There wasn't a wizard who created the carpet, but instead a scientist. The evidence actually lies in the movie itself, based on the items Genie shows to Aladdin in their first meet. The carpet is a proof that human civilization was at their prime, before the reset happened.

I’ve always liked to think they had a magic barrier protecting them from the elements. That also means they could go as fast as they wanted without having to worry about G-force or insane speeds.
One could argue that this is a selective magic barrier. That would also explain the 15:24 scene: they're upside down with no seat belts and not falling.
came here to reply to this comment. It was a "magic" carpet and my assumption is that magic > physics. In addition to the magical barrier, it probably had magical restraints and maybe, just maybe, it could magically de-particale-ize them during the boring portions of transit. Under this scenario, the story could've played out as is!
The magic part of the carpet is the ability to fly, not protect its passengers from the surrounding. There a scene where Jasmine was touching clouds with her hands which proves the point
@@ViolentCabbage-ym7ko Are the clouds harming Jasmine? No. So it doesn't prove the point. In fantasy and scifi, barriers protect its user while allowing the user to breath and hear. Oxygen and sound are usually not considered harmful to the user and pass right through the shield. The shield still protects the user. Carpet's magic could protect them while still allowing them to interact with the environment.
@@k9commander You can't have a magic barrier that protects its user from its surrounding while being able to touch the surrounding. Like how does that even work?
I always figured that carpet was enchanted with the ability to magically shield the riders from any force generated from the flight. This would allow the couple to ignore wind shear, O2 deprivation and freezing temps so they could enjoy their flight. Anything is possible when you are dealing with a sentient magic carpet right?
thats because the carpet isnt magic. flying carpets come from the stories of king solomon where he commands the wind and can make it carry him (on his carpet)
Obviously, the “Whole New World” sequence was actually a montage of several dates that took place over many different nights during which Aladdin and Jasmine sang the same song together multiple times.
I actually don´t see much flaws on this theory the only possible way i can think of is that the magic carpet not only is magic and sentient, but creates some sort of magic windshield that would prevent them from breaking everything with that amount of forces applied to a human body, enjoy the content as always you brighten my work days thanks Mat Pat
Kind of like a magic carpet version of what The Flash does. Normally, anyone moving at speeds even close to what The Flash moves would be ripped to shreds. To get around this, DC hand-waves in some "protective field" that keeps him safe and not burning up from the friction. Flash can even extend this so he can carry people to safety without them turning into piles of smoldering ash. So maybe carpet has its own protective field. It doesn't stop everything - since they still obviously feel a breeze - but it keeps it far below lethal levels.
reminds me of that space adventure movie in the 80s where the kid invented a way his computer made a closed bubble and explained inside there is no inertia. He could have the bubble move in any direction and accelerate as fast as he wants and inside will feel no movement, nothing. In fact the kids have to bring Oxygen inside to be able to breath and a battery inside to power the computer that is creating this bubble. light can pass through it, nothing else. He programmed the bubble big enough to fit a hand thrown together space craft out of an amusement park ride and took an adventure to space in it.
I was coming to the comments to say this. The movie sets the precedent that the magic carpet affords itself and others some form of magical protection. Otherwise they're all dead in the Cave of Wonders at the beginning. If the lava/magma is hot enough to melt metal and gems, they should have all burned up.
"Sometimes you need a bit of magic" indeed because this theory really hinges on Genie not making use of his magic to actually protect Jasmine and Aladdin from how it would've killed them realistically
@@urahara64360 Huh, forgot to account for that. Yeah... but still, basically ANY mention of potential magic (whether from the genie, the carpet, whatever) has to be omitted for this theory to be correct

"144,522 newtons per second" is a bit like saying my bathroom scale reads 180 pounds every second that I'm standing on it. Technically true but a little weird.
Ya, once you reach that speed you are no longer accelerating therefore you won't be reaching that force, you would remain in force equilibrium until you speed or slow again...
144,000 N is about 31,000 pounds. "Newtons per second" is the worst science mistake I've seen him make. Units of newton's are already mass times acceleration which is kg times meters per second per second. Putting another per seconds in there doesn't make sense. Also, they could have traveled west all night to get >12 more hours of night to get to China.
Now that raises the same question for another classic Disney film. How fast was Cinderella’s getaway from the Palace before the clock struck midnight? It’s a large area to cover in a small span of time to get back home.
Can we just take a moment and appreciate how much of a G Carpet is? He found a thieving street rat and monkey and helped them on their adventure, saving them multiple times from certain death, transporting them across large distances, and even acted as Aladdin’s literal wingman in winning Jasmine’s heart. In terms of Disney friends of the main character, is there anybody else who’s even better?
That logic means he can't milk a video. Next vid will be them not surviving because as we can see the characters don't have nostrils drawn. To be fair i used to love these type of videos when I was 15
BRO I kid you not I theorized this over 3 years ago because I said to myself “how fast did they go across the world for it to still be night time at the kingdom.” And the fact you posted about it makes me so freaking happy man. Thanks you so much for showing people that this makes no sense.
When I first watched Aladin as a kid, I knew something like this seem way too Farfetched. I could understand them going to Cairo then Greece since it's closer, but China? What is that carpet? A Blackbird jet?!
@@davidbeppler3032 - That makes me wonder since the Genie befriended the carpet, his magic is probably the reason why they survived on the carpet and how fast they reach the places without death. 🤔
Another simple explanation, all those scenes weren’t in one night, were instead a condensing montage of several nights doing each of those trips separately edited into a manner that seems like a single outing. Kinda makes their relationship more believable too if your not falling in love after one date.
-Your campy animation is always awesome. I especially enjoyed 13:51 of this video. -Speaking of magic, Magic Carpet could use its magic (or Genie could have helped supply it, as a courtesy) to pressurize the air directly above the carpet during the ride. Their own bubble of atmosphere with heat and oxygen, comparable to Agrabah's elevation and season. It's not a bad theory. The bubble could have included a pause or slowing of time. Because they were not moving that fast, yet they were traveling far. Maybe it is the same way Santa goes all around the world in one night. A time warp/freeze of some sort.
The problem with Belle being accused of Stockholm Syndrome is that neither she, the Beast, or the guests take the whole prisoner thing very seriously. She’s allowed to go anywhere she wants in the castle (except the West Wing), nobody stops her when she’s scared away, she actively makes the choice to save the Beast, and the Beast makes the choice to free her once she discovers her father is in danger. Again, the Beast really does learn to love her, and demonstrates this BY FREEING her! He learns to see her for who she is, and to respect her needs and wants!
Stockholm Syndrome also isn't real. At all. The actual case from Stockholm was clearly a case of the perp being pushed to his limits and the prisoners recognizing that and having sympathy for him.
The point of Stockholm Syndrome is being held captive against your will. Doesn't matter if she was allowed to wander most of the castle, the point is she was FORCED to be in the castle. Also, they kind of guilt tripped her into loving the beast- and even if they didn't, Stockholm Syndrome makes you love your kidnapper and make you believe you need to serve them.
Well… technically she made a deal with the Beast to switch places with her father. But you do make a good point about her being forced to stay there. What I find interesting is how the further the film goes, the less Belle AND the Beast take the prisoner sentence seriously, and begin seeing each other more as people 😊
6:11 Fun fact, In a deleted scene of the movie, the Merchant is revealed to be the Genie in disguise. This makes sense because not only is he the only other character to be voiced by the late great Robin Williams, but he’s also the only other character with four fingers on each hand instead of five.
my biggest issue is in the first two minutes of this video. Ariel did NOT give away her voice for a man she didn’t know. she always had a love for the human world and always wanted to leave the ocean, to have two legs, to walk on land! she sings "Part of Your World" BEFORE she meets Eric. Eric was only the pushing point for her to go and actually do something about it.
My biggest issue within the first two minutes was him saying Belle had Stockholm Syndrome. There are multiple videos out there that go in depth about how she DID NOT have that.

Correction for 12:16. The stars would not have been that visible only eight minutes after sunset. A sky that dark would have taken about an hour. So at the earliest, Aladdin and Jasmine would have left Agrabah at six thirty.
I thought about this ages ago, and the solution was easy. Carpet is magical, and his magic lets him fly at those extreme speeds, while also protecting & shielding him & his passengers from all the effects. He could've practically taken them to space and they wouldn't have even gotten cold. (Although falling off of him still would've been a death sentence.)
One minor correction. Aladdin, without even realizing it, phrased his request "make me a prince". Not "make me LOOK LIKE a prince". Genie does consider this a wish as when he brings up the count at other times, it's already counted. So, Aladdin is a prince. Phenomenal cosmic power may not change Aladdin's memories, but it very well may have changed his lineage given it's ability to not only warp space, but also time.
Why change his lineage? Just... make him a prince the same way everyone else was. Conquer some land, and he's the ruler of it. Prince until coronation date. I presume Genie just needed to hand Aladdin the equivalent of a deed.
@@JamesJNothingIsTooSensitive The only reason I went with a change in lineage was because of what Matpat said about it. I'm sure Genie could have just made Aladdin a prince, King, or an Emperor (if Al knew about them), if he has wished it. Also also, I completely forgot in my first post that technically.. he already was a prince. Genie just kind of made him a more traditional, and publicly acceptable type of prince. The third movie confirms his lineage is already there as the Price of Thieves, lol. The Sultan never said it had to be a prince of some wonderful kingdom, or anything. Just "must be married to a prince". So that's an extra point for Al 😁
@@JamesJNothingIsTooSensitive Or... To become a prince, you also have to marry a princess, and Genie certainly helps to open that gateway. The Genie may not be able to force anyone to fall in love with Aladdin, but he does try to guide Aladdin to his heart's true desire by granting his wish to become a Prince, and giving him crucial advice for dating Jasmine.
There is a reason why is called "magic" carpet, it protect the ones who ride it with a invisible shield from litteraly ANYTHING Beside, the geenie is not going to let the cuple die, so maiby he put a secret spell on them to be invincible wile riding that carpet
Hilarious to imagine some genie-magic keeping Aladdin and Jasmine from dying, but still being absolutely PLASTERED to the carpet and not being able to get a word out because the entire time they’re just being bombarded by wind
I just figured they made the occasional stop for food and/or a bathroom break, and the film just skipped over those moments and fast forwarded to fit the time frame of the song.
Wouldn't the lava carpet ride earlier on have killed Al anyway? That heat and lack of distance would melted the flesh off his bones. Hence MAGIC carpet, clearly puts a protective field around the user, and likely teleports to an extent.
Seeing Matt talk about the altitude thing made me laugh because I live in a city with an altitude of 2625m (8612ft). Considering that Genie actively encouraged Aladdin to use his first 2 wishes before freeing him, and even bent the rules by using one of those wishes on his behalf to save his life, idk how amoral that particular action is. The deception of Jasmine, though, that's 100% on him.
I love how MatPat just skips over the most unbelievable part; that this all happened on a sentient magical flying carpet. If you're willing to accept that the rest isn't that much of a stretch. lol
OK but...the whole point is it's a MAGIC carpet. Magic supersedes any worries about things like speed or air protection, because you can just say the magic of the carpet protects them from the speeds and air changes and whatnot.
The most logical solution would be to have them both hallucinate those things, since it would be important for the djin to keep the lamp-owner alive. Or maybe the djin simply kept them alive for the duration of the wishes, since Aladin could simply wish for the djin to "expeire", in retaliation for the "expiration" of Jasmine.
I completely agree, @@hilosky . At most, flying above the clouds could be done for a few minutes at most, after which they would go lower, and they would be wrapped in the carpet, the carpet thermally insulating and physically protecting them from the wind. And with an average of 1g of acceleration, those 6310 km or 3920 miles between Athens and Bei Jing, which would be half one way and half the other, would be traveled in 30 (more specifically 29.61) minutes acceleating, just as much decelerating (slowing down), which means one hour one way, which means another hour the other way, so the whole back-and-forth would take no longer than 2 hours. The maximum speed reached this way would be 63,547.1 km/h or 39,486.3 mph. The speed of light is 1.07 billion km/h or 670 million mph, the speed of sound is 1,234.8 km/h or 767.269 mph, which means that the maximum speed reached would be Mach 51, or between 51 and 52 times the speed of sound. Calculated with OmniCalculator's Acceleration Calculator given Distance Traveled.
Well, maybe the monkey is released by the owner, while both the monkey and the owner are also hallucinating, then the hallucinating monkey would hitch a ride to most of the way to Jasmine, then go the rest of the distance on foot, until they meet. film theory idea: how long would the the bad guys ACTUALLY be in jail/what are the fines they would have to pay or any other punishment they'd have to endure?
I feel this is a good part of a larger theory, which states that the entire movie is a story by the merchant at the beginning to get you to buy the lamp, thus making the impossible things that happen just made up details by said merchant for effect.
I just like to think that there is some sort of magical force field surrounding them and the magic carpet in the animated version, and that's how they survived.

@@JB-mk3owPersonally, I think that the live action makes more sense and answers some questions in some bits like why was genie still blue and able to do... genie things like float or fly even when Aladdin set him free in the animated movie and what happened to the genie afterwards
There isn't much competition, but it's my favourite of the live action remakes.
I like live action jasmine more than the cartoon. She has some soul

If its a magic carpet created specifically for flying, probably by so sort of wizard, it's probably got a physics-proof magical forcefield. At least, I'd definitely put one of those on my flying carpet
Everyone needs to physics proof everything with magic. Life would be so easy if we didn’t have to care about physical limitations.
a magical force field could be a solution for that, but the movie itself didn't show any evidence of that, during the ride they touch the clouds and the wind clearly have an effect in their clothes. Also, when Aladdin is escaping the Cave of Wonders, a big rock hit them and there was no force field to protect them.
@@luisoncpp I mean, the force field could just protect them to not be affected by the speed and environment and reduce it to like what they used to on land
Operative word is definitely: Magic. Even Matt states as much. Was not a Science Carpet Ride.

Like from the end of the world where it's nothing but freezing cold to Agrabah in an hour?
Could easily be proven or disproved by seeing if hair moves while they're flying
Also, we have the possibility that they were teleporting cuz magic.
Carpet is a sentient, magical rug. It knows how to protect it's passengers.
Everyone needs a friend like Carpet.
The magic part of the carpet is the ability to fly, not protect its passengers from the surrounding. There a scene where Jasmine was touching clouds with her hands which proves the point
@@ViolentCabbage-ym7ko
Are the clouds harming Jasmine?
@@k9commanderSure, if you can prove Disney considered this when making the movie
Yes, Magic is magic hence it would defy science, and sadly the likes of theories or theorists.
I always figured that carpet was enchanted with the ability to magically shield the riders from any force generated from the flight. This would allow the couple to ignore wind shear, O2 deprivation and freezing temps so they could enjoy their flight. Anything is possible when you are dealing with a sentient magic carpet right?
If it flys using negative gravitons than it wouldn't even need an enchantment for that.
no
thats because the carpet isnt magic. flying carpets come from the stories of king solomon where he commands the wind and can make it carry him (on his carpet)

Obviously, the “Whole New World” sequence was actually a montage of several dates that took place over many different nights during which Aladdin and Jasmine sang the same song together multiple times.

@@masedaace5473 Just a joke.
THE CARPET HAS THE SPEED FORCE!
reminds me of that space adventure movie in the 80s where the kid invented a way his computer made a closed bubble and explained inside there is no inertia.
Bro should join team theorists 🔥 🔥 🔥

I think he just used that bc it means they keep experiancing that force continuously every second. Idk man science can be pretty weird.
Ok but you're not applying 180 extra pounds per second that you're on the scale
Not to mention she had to beat her stepsisters to the house.
Can we just take a moment and appreciate how much of a G Carpet is?
‘freeing’

Matt forgot one thing... It's a magic carpet they specifically say magic carpet not flying carpet.
It is still interesting to see the physics and such of it all as a way of confirming that Carpet had to have such enchantments
@@homerman76 Agreed.
There is a reason why is called "magic" carpet, it protect the ones who ride it with a invisible shield from litteraly ANYTHING
Beside, the geenie is not going to let the cuple die, so maiby he put a secret spell on them to be invincible wile riding that carpet
But here is a key point for this scene: the carpet is literally magic.
Hilarious to imagine some genie-magic keeping Aladdin and Jasmine from dying, but still being absolutely PLASTERED to the carpet and not being able to get a word out because the entire time they’re just being bombarded by wind
Howard Ashman's death really did a number on a lot of Disney music.

The most logical solution would be to have them both hallucinate those things, since it would be important for the djin to keep the lamp-owner alive. My prediction theory: he's gonna say it'd be G forces and that the human body can't survive it,ignoring the fact it's literally MAGIC
Edit: well,I was right but I will say I like how he turned it into a point about how realism isn't always better
I believe that the Magic Carpet had an unseen magical barrier that kept Aladdin & Jasmine from being harmed in the ling voyages.
eactly transparent pressure hull.. and it have powerfull wets, that is why the hair is moving around. Its not the wind, just the vents.
I have the same problem with this as with every theory involving a magic item - it’s MAGIC. The MAGIC could protect them from all real world physics because it’s MAGIC
Okay Himiko.
Well writing the word magic does not magically prevent people from scrutinizing works of fiction, in earnest or for fun.
i kinda dislike how you all just show the movies without context, like if you actually watched the movie "the beauty and the beast" you would realized this is NOT stockholm syndrom. belle doesnt have any interest in the beast UNTIL he actually stopped behaving like a captor and got more friendly. and he even tells her she can go when she wants, which she does.
also arielle, she does NOT just go onto land for a guy she just saw, she has an entire song about how she just wants to feel how it is on land. eric was just the last straw.
Mat pat was so close to breaking down the math of how he calculated the force and being the show I remember finding years ago. Just close enough to be sad
11:35 I can't be the only one who laughed really hard at the faces right?
LOL no 😭😂🤣😂🤣😂
12:58 Wow. That's fast. Even faster than me on my scooter.
Kinda late to this thread, but I think a warp bubble would resolve the issues mentioned in the video. Maybe the magic of the flying carpet uses a warp field?
Mat is a lore master! Dude mat can solve anything! If Disney watching mat then they are probably scared if he is gonna ruined their movies, just like how my childhood is ruined by mat’s videos… over all your videos are amazing and you and the team have made such amazing and entertaining content!!! Keep up the good work❤
I don’t think Disney needs Matpat’s services to ruin their movies…
Every time i've read about a magic carpet it always includes at the minimum sticky seating and wind resistance. Looks like this carpet allows some wind to flow but not much as Jasmine's hair and aladdin's cape are rarely billowing.
matpat is coming for our childhood again and I'm here for it
Yep it always happens
And you’re coming for matpat
Yess I really missed him ruining my whole childhood
that’s his job
Film theory: If the Polar Express can drift on ice, can all trains drift on ice? or is the Polar Express built different?
Disney parks and movies may be struggling. But newer Disney shows like The Owl House, Amphibia and the Ghost and Molly McGee have been doing really well. Maybe do a theory on that?
I would love an Owl House theory(definitely don't want to ---indoctrinate new members--- get new fans for the show)
Honestly there really isn't enough there to theorize about. The owl house at least has very shallow world building to the point it is too loose to form anything definitively and all the lore implications were already answered enough for the story.
