The truth about Ultherapy | Alice Hart-Davis

  • Ultherapy is a non-surgical, FDA-cleared treatment for lifting and tightening the skin on the neck and chin and eyebrow - but it has a bit of a reputation for being painful and expensive and some people claim it makes faces look worse not better. I've tried it three times over the past five years and I know that it can work really well.
    So this is me talking about the treatment, the controversy around it, what it feels like, and showing clips of when I last went for treatment, last year, with Esther Loughran at the Cosmetic Skin Clinic in London.
    Visit my website at thetweakmentsguide.com/tweakm... for more information about this treatment.

    I am 63 and had full face and neck. Very uncomfortable. 2 months later, co-workers are stopping me to tell me I look great and wondering what I did - hair? Make-up? Nope, I look better now. Lifestyle plays a choice - I never was a sun bather and my activity choices are mostly inside (reading, sewing, etc.), never smoked, don't drink and, after reading reviews here, I think I am blessed with good genetics. I did read the research where it said 60+ years of age, there was a higher rate of failure, but for those that tried again after 6 months, they had a response. I'm excited because I am responding well, and have been advised to do it again in 6 months because of my age. I think it's dicier when you are older. I plan on doing it again in 6 months. I had ultherapy brand with the ultherapy machine.

    I’m a nurse practitioner. I own a Medspa. Ultherapy may work for those who have plenty of subcutaneous fat and still have collagen. The procedure must be done by a professional and only the Merz machine. It’s possible to cause severe fat loss and nerve damage when the machine is not calibrated correctly or if the intensity is too high. Check with Merz to see who is properly trained and who owns one of their machines.

    My face was very badly damaged by two treatments of laser genesis. The treatment was so high of an intense heat going into the tissues beneath the skin, that it caused aptosis of the fat in my face. My face looks completely different, and not in a good way. My cheeks and my cheek bone area was completely melted away and it left me with loose skin that hung around the jaw area and the neck. my forehead was also left with nothing but skin and bone and my temple area shrank away where the cheekbone used to go up to the temple. I also began to be able to fill my whole jaw bone especially the joint below the ear became really sharp and overall it was just really shocking to me. I also now have sunken in cheeks where the cheekbones used to be plump and when I smile it piles up the flesh with deep wrinkles and dents, and I also developed deep wrinkles in my forehead when I smile or make expressions. I never had any of these problems before. The deflation of my cheeks also causes the fat pads under my eyes to bulge, and I can look like I have puffy eyes even when I don't. My face became very flat, and I looked about 15 years older than I did before the treatments happened. The damage was cumulative, as it continued to change for about nine months after the second treatment, since the fat cells were now dead and working their way out of my face. In the last two years I've had to have fillers three times. I never ever wanted to put needles in my face, but I had no idea that Laser Genesis could be so harmful to the beautiful curves and fullness in my face. I'm a thin person, but I had nice facial features until I was left with mostly just bone and skin and muscle. I am doomed to have to pay for expensive fillers for the rest of my life, as my face continues to collapse, and then I have to prop it up again about every six months. I miss seeing myself in the mirror, I never would have done this on purpose if they had warned me. I try to warn others but they try to lie about this procedure to get people to come in and pay for it. They don't tell people about the risks.

      OMG, so sorry to hear this! I didn't realize this could happen with Laser Genesis. I had a bad experience with radio therapy (thankfully milder) and later read about all the bad experiences from others using radio therapy. These treatments are too strong for about 8% of the population. I'm trying a natural collagen synthesis supplement with Vitamin C and biotin (collagen, and bone broth don't help, you need to promote collagen synthesis) Also derma rolling and alpha hydroxy. Hello everyone, and thanks Alice for your video and for your interaction with the people here commenting. Why is it so expensive anyway? If we had the device we could use it without having to pay anyone, it s like paying someone to use an expensive machine ( i guess its not cheap) i mean it looks like it s awfully easy to use so why paying 3000 bucks for someone doing such a painfully easy work? I'm just curious tho, why u r promoting it? and why u think so many people say it doesnt work and it hurts? Could your clinic recommend any in Barcelona Spain? I there any way to buy the device online? Thank u very much in advance for ur reply.

I think that Ultheraphy might work better for people in their 40's.. I have read mixed reviews on this procedure?? Had two sessions of ultraformer. The first session was good. Saw results the first time. The second session, I had a lot of bruising but the results are still pretty obvious. The downtime differs from one person to another and the sensitivity of your skin. If your skin is super sensitive, ask them to do it at a lower frequency.

    • @thetweakmentsguide
      @thetweakmentsguide  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Esther, you're right, there are so many home-use products available! One I really like is the NuFace because it uses electrical microcurrents to tighten up the muscles on the face and improve circulation through the skin, so it is great for skin health and helps to improve fine lines and it's FDA cleared for improving the contours of the face (i believe it's the only device that has this clearance). Re HIFU/Ultherapy - HIFU stands for High Intensity Focussed Ultrasound. Ultherapy is a branded type of high intensity focussed ultrasound (in the same way that, say, Coca-Cola is a branded type of cola drink). 3D SkinMed is also a branded type of high intensity focussed ultrasound. If a clinic just offers 'HIFU', as them about what type of HIFU machine they are using.They're not all the same. Ultherapy is the only brand with FDA clearance. hope that helps! best wishes, Alice

    Hi Alice
    Thank you for this video :)
    The Ulthera machine that was used on you in this video, what is the name of it please - which version is it please?
    I'm booked in to have my full face done next week, so I want to compare the one you had to the one that the doctor is potentially going to use on me next week (I'm seeing him for a consult tomorrow first).
    I have Crohn's, so I think this is going to be a little bit painful. But I've also had fraxel laser done before (twice) too, so I'm assuming that if I could live through that, that I'll be able to survive the pain of the ultherapy - fingers crossed ;) I might see if I can take some antiinflammatories with food before the procedure...
    Have you yourself had fraxel laser done - ie are you able to compare it to the pain of ultherapy?
    Kind regards
    Louise

      Hi Louise yes I emailed back yesterday (will check if it is stuck in outbox). This was the 2nd version ultherapy machine. The 2013 original hurt like anything. The revised 2015 version hurts a lot less. Not sure if there has been a third iteration of the technology. Laser pain is different as it is on the surface and can be numbed with creams (tho yes, yeow, fraxel not comfortable). This goes deep, hence most clinics offer Valium as well as ibuprofen - don't know how you'd be with either of those. it all depends on how much energy they are putting out thru the device but it shouldn't be impossibly uncomfortable (if it is, tell them to turn it down a bit!). best, Alice

    • @thetweakmentsguide
      @thetweakmentsguide  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi, what I find Ultherapy can do, and what it has done for me, is tighten loose skin around and under the chin. So it depends on your jowls. It isnt - or shouldn't - be destroying any fat beneath the skin. If you are wanting to reduce fatty jowls or a double chin, Coolsculpting using the Mini treatment head is the best thing for that, and that also has a tightening effect on the skin. Does that help?

      Hi Nancy, the technical description is that the device is FDA-cleared for specific treatments - to lift skin on the neck, on the eyebrow and under the chin as well as to improve lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. As I understand it, medical devices which are entirely new to the market need (in the States) to gain FDA approval; medical devices which are similar to existing types of devices need FDA clearance - in each case to prove that they do what they claim to do both safely and effectively. In the case of Ultherapy, it's FDA cleared, hope that makes sense, Alice

    Much as I want to find a 'cure' for my sliding cheeks, I'm wary of the idea of producing collagen by burning deep layer tissue; suspect it could cause damage & have the opposite effect in years to come?! A 'Thread Lift' sounds safer to me, if micro-current & facial exercise don't work..

    • @fashiondiva6972
      @fashiondiva6972 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re not “burning” collagen or any layer of skin per se; you’re superheating it. Burning implies destruction. That’s not the actual goal here. This has been used for quite some time and I’ve seen it age well on my own mother. I’m 44 and my mum is 72. She had it done when she was 65. It’s had no ill effects on her skin since then. I had it done the first time at 39 and am going again in a few weeks for treat another area. The results from my first treatment are still in tact and it’s been 5 years. You could rub your face diligently, on a daily basis with whatever microcurrent device du jour you’re using; I did the same for three years and it got me precisely minimal results that were largely placebo effect, mostly to justify spending the ungodly sum on the device itself. Ultherapy actually worked. If you live in or can visit a larger city, the pricing is usually cheaper where there’s more competition. I live in Malibu half the year and was able to get it done while in Vegas in the winter for about $1600 for lower face/jaw/chin and neck. I say about because I also had my normal Dysport injections and Juvederm filler done at the same time so I had to do some quick math.

No noticeable results. Also had swelling and bruising. I paid $4600, at a discounted price. I do not recommend Ultherapy.. If you are thin, try gaining just a few pounds. I added 6 pounds and look much better. Natural fat can do wonders. • @thetweakmentsguide

      Hi, i haven't heard of it leaving scarring - it shouldn't, because it isn't breaking the skin. But if your immunity is low, you MUST discuss this and the medication that you are on with your doctor before thinking of booking in for cosmetic treatments, in case there are contra-indications - it may mean you are not a suitable candidate for treatment

    Recently I was listening to a few plastic surgeons say that it produces collagen makes the skin tighter and more compact but at the same time it can get rid of the fat in the face make some people look hollow and in others around the fourth treatment it can make the skin look loose saggy.
    To think that It was FDA approved and now you have all these Plastic surgeons sharing all these negative comments about it🤷🏻‍♂️

    how about radio frequency? And how about micro needling radiofrequency? Are they beneficial?

    • @thetweakmentsguide
      @thetweakmentsguide  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Farinaz, yes radiofrequency eg Thermage is beneficial for skin tightening (it has a shrink-wrapping effect on the collagen), particularly if used by an experienced practitioner (the more practice a practitioner has with any device, the better they become at getting maximum results). And radiofrequency delivered through microneedles goes a little bit deeper and is good for resurfacing skin as well as tightening.

      Do not go for radiofrecuency! I did it and had all the fat from my face disappear. Everybody kept telling me that I had lost so much weight (Which I hadn't, it was only my face) and that I looked so tired. After seeing some of my pictures I ended up having some fat transfer to my cheeks which the surgeon overdid and I regretted it for some time. My face looked awful, all inflated. After 1 year fortunately most the fat dissolved and I went back to looking my normal face. No way I would do it again. Now I was quite tempted with ultrasound but after reading some comments I have changed my mind.

I had my neck done a month ago...not seeing noticeable results yet. Cheeks and brow four days ago. Now house bound as I cannot cover this with makeup. Loubelloo it is now 3 weeks since my second full face and neck. I am not convinced it is great. Maybe it is slowing down the aging, not reversing. Maybe time for me to save for a face lift. My skin is in pretty good condition. The AMAZING results I saw online were with skin that was pretty rugged.

      Hi yes those comments are all really worrying and I simply don't know if I have just been lucky with Ultherapy or what. But yes I do think I look fresher-faced than I have any right to at my age (55) though I don't think there's a massive difference between my face and those of my BFFS who don't do any of this stuff. Ie i don't look 10 years younger than they do. Maybe in another five years there will be more of a difference?

That's almost the cost of a lower face lift!"...Glad I passed on it...yes seeing a lot online comments about it causing serious subdermal fat loss...which causes a very aging affect..hanging sagging skin!
