That was an enjoyable watch - just shows how simple it can be. What also came over was that even now you still enjoy catching a few Roach out the cut. (back to your roots). well done Jon.
Another excellent video John, just done a batch in the oven let it cool down and pushed it through a flour sieve with the back of a wooden spoon no waste whatsoever, I'll put it to the test over the weekend, cheers John keep safe.
Hi Jon another really great video. As a skint teenager i used to slow bake whole slices in my mum's Aga and pulverise them with a rolling pin! My section on the GUC is always heavily coloured and bread works better than any other bait most days. I produced a video using the short pole, top 3, and had a 4lb plus fish second put in and loads of good skimmers on a 7mm punch, i think, and really sloppy crumb, got a lot of views,40,00 plus. Of course not being a 'known' match angler a lot of people missed the video! Kindest regards Bill
I bought 25 kg of white bread crumb last season, nightmare to mix even using griddle so gave up , baked it like you said and it literally transformed it to a light fluffy texture, great tip mate , brilliant
Superb Jon , I also do exactly the same , have done for years , to some batches I add aniseed or fenugreek in powder form , all work a treat , thanks Jon ….👍🏻

Thanks for the advice, I am a French fisherman, I am trying a bread recipe to fish with a method. I will test the sandwich bread in the oven.if I make a video on the subject, I will be happy to reference your channel and your idea during my video. Thierry
Tried this today down at my local, brilliant! Caught steady for most of the day whilst those on mags/groundbait struggled... 5mm punch 3 inch off bottom was best on the day! Really surprised how much I had to feed to keep the bites coming too! Need to make another batch now 😂
Thought you had a bib and brace on for a start till I realised it was the camera . Didn't realise it got that messy 😊, Appreciate the tips Jon thanks .
Something different Jon, very interesting I've always wondered what the top bread anglers used, easy to make I'll give it a go next week as I'm shielding. Keep well and keep um coming 😂 😂
The reason this does not bind is that baking takes out the gluten in the bread. This is how we used to make "proper" bread paste years ago.If you get your baked slices and put them in some muslin or cotton cloth and soak the bread. Then if you start to squeeze out the water, after a bit you will get cracking proper bread paste. However it is soft and thats how to roach like it and tench etc.We caught stacks on this back in the day.
What with you and your bread recipe and Joe Cass with his cheese paste recipe. Why don’t the pair of you open an anglers cafe somewhere? Lol. Another great vid Jon. I look forward to these more than anything on the telly. Cheers buddy! 👌👍
Hi Jon, great video, thanks. I also grew up fishing the canals in Rugby and know what you mean about the colour. Home for me was Hillmorton, how about you?
I used to live in Stockton and Southam so I fished it all that way over the years and quite a few leagues. George Burton ran a lot of matches that way at the time.
Better way to do it Jon is to cut the bread into one inch squares. Then place in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes until all the moisture is out of the bread and it’s crispy to the touch. Then put it into the blender for a minute and you will have perfect breadcrumbs and no lumps.
Great video although didn't feel like a normal Jon Arthur video at first but then he got a hand full of the bread and stuck it to his pants :) keep up the good work Jon and stay safe 👍
I did sharpen it once. Just have to leave it on full power a long time to get it finer now, but it wasn't too important for the purpose of the video. Freezing and thawing also helps.
Very very similar to what i do. Anybread I have left over, I put it in a baking tray with the light/sun having a bash of its Wordly gifts on it. Fill the tray up...stick them in a bag... and continue, the bag goes in my spare room and just does what ever spare room magic does. ( by the way, this is weekly). Anyway... when the time arrives... the bags come out as long as they are over 3 months gone. I then spend a shit load of time with two coffee grinders giving it hell...regarding the oven baking. I use this when I've perhaps a lot of bread in my possession. and not quite stale.. so i rip it apart, give it some hell and put t on the lowest shelf on the lowest heat whilst I'm Netflixing...switch oven off... get up, get ready for work and just check bread.... spend a minute or two seeing whats what and putting it in trays and leaving it out for the suns rays getting to it.......once again it goes into the coffee grinder and I get dust out of it 999% of the time. Sieve it... pot it in 25kg barrels and that is the GB I use at all times... whatever the venue. Most of the time its River fishing..in fact it's nearly all...but....you can't beat...making your own bread crumb... it's just fun and very so pleasing. I can't emphasise anymore than what Jon has said...it's your bread...you know whats in it ...you can read the ingredients from the packaging as what is in it...I prefer the saltiest breads going, salt is a must in my opinion in winter. especially in cheese paste....I'll shut up now.

Hello Jon, enjoyed the video. A canal related question rather than on bread. Uder what circumstances on a canal (where a pole can reach any area) would you use a waggler in preference.
If it was a match there are only two situations for me. Firstly, if there is too much traffic behind you such as cyclists and joggers. Some venues I have fished you have no space behind or any time to ship back level with the towpath. Another reason is speed as sometimes casting a little waggler can be faster than shipping in and out. A long whip could be another option, but only if you are only expecting small fish. For out and out pleasure though, without any competitive element, it's hard to beat the enjoyment of fishing with a rod and line and a little waggler, as I've shown on one of my earlier vids.
i add a packet of digestive biscuits to my crumb in the summer, theres an oil slick that comes from the biscuits (fat from the butter maybe) but that added to the supreme pulling power of bread turns the swim into a bubbling cauldron! great vid mate 👍👍

Hmmm in my experience on a lot of commercials you’ll get lots of tiny roach on bread. But on one venue I fished I had a great run catching f1s on it and way way back in the day I used to bag up with carp at Makins on bread over bread feed. My dad makes the same sort of thing but just puts the slices in the oven at 50 for about 5 hours then puts it in the food processor until its super fine.
Hi, thanks for your video. Total beginner to course fishing so wondering if there would be any advantage to adding any additives to this mix or is it good enough as is ? Thanks for any thoughts. Cheers Bob
I'm not sure tbh and actually want it to break down most the time, but will add gravel if I want it to get down faster, or even feed it via a baitdropper
Honestly no, fish love bread and know what white bread feed is and eat it readily in gin clear water. Some people even increase the white cloud with additives. It is such a weird phenomenon why we all swear by black/dark groundbait in winter, yet happily use white punch crumb, but both certainly work well in clear water.

Just gravel I think. If it’s towing hard try using a baitdropper too as some top guys do that particularly in the Leicester region.

Interesting that it doesn’t bind... I often use panko which is also a toasted bread crumb and it binds quite well...
I've got some panko crumbs in the kitchen cupboard but never tried it for fishing!
Jon, ive been using dynamite silver fish and frenzied hemp groundbait, it nice consistancy like in videos(forms a ball but breaks up when rubbed without lumps) the problem is its floating when i cup it in, should i use more water? Thanks
Yes definitely. Sounds like it's dried up after you've mixed it. It'll take on a lot of water.
@@JonArthur thanks jon, ill mix it wetter then, cheers
Could you still add a bit of gravel to get it down?
Yes absolutely. I actually had a small tub of gravel in the base of my box in case it was towing a lot.
@@JonArthur cheers Jon, enjoyed that video, definitely an eye opener and I've got an ideal little bread venue on my doorstep now it's a great way to use up left overs.
good stuff john ,i much prefer nigella tho lol
