Hey, huge Dune fan here too =D Pretty sure you already know but Ordos are made up and ... not made up ! They're part of the lore of Dune written by Frank Herbert but in the games, they're a mix of 2 houses so you don't really recognize them. Plus, in the books, they're a minor house so nobody cares, they're mentioned only once. I actually had to go check the books to make sure they were in way back when. (I knew they definitely are in the encyclopedia though) For the Guild Navigators, did you know the actors were actually wearing corpse bags? The actors didn't know about it ! And for the mutants, it was totally an idea from Lynch but Frank Herbert liked this idea so much that he later wrote about them in the following books !! Gotta love Lynch despite what everybody says. I will need to check that patch , last time I tried Emperor, the game was crazy fast and unplayable. The cinematics were so amazing with great actors having fun with their role ! And the musics... What a memory ! Ordos power was completely busted ! But every units and buildings always felt like cardboard =/ This game would have deserved a sequel with rebalancing all around. Those old games were amazing because they were based on Lynch's Dune who created such amazing visuals compared to what Villeneuve did. (yeah, I don't like his work on Dune) I'll end by mentioning Dark Reign 1 and 2, there are versions up to date to fish for and also Dominion Storm over Gift 3 (same) but Dark Reign has a discord page explaining everything unlike Dominion.
Hello fellow fan ! Thank you kindly for the game recommendations and sharing your knowledge of the lore. I never liked that they overcomplicate things by mixing Houses to create a new one when the lore was already so big but I guess it was a way for them to do something new and different which is ok. I personally like all Dune content as long as it has its own idea and sticks to it. Which is what I respect about the newest movies. The old ones too.
@@perafilozof I don't like Villeneuve's movies because he destroyed the message that Frank Herbert was trying to convey. Paul is ignored, Chani is laughing at him, Paul doesn't bring anything to the fremen, the sandworms are ugly AF, the attack of Arrakeen is too flashy and I can't get over the fact that Harkonnen were trying to destroy a shielded orni with lasers, Liet being a younger woman destroy the entire message about him, Zendaya is a terrible actress who can't act properly, in all her movies she has only one expression, Stilgar is made a fool of, Walken was too old to play the Emperor and you can actually see how tired the actor is, the black and white vision of Giedi Prime is an artsy feature which was too much, many details were overlooked from the story to focus on stupid details like the grandpa killing the bull, Momoa is way too scruffy to play Duncan (doesn't have much respect either TBH), Jessica is a crying baby always looking like she would collapse when she is supposed to be noble and strong.... Villeneuve tried to "make a modern movie for modern audience" and failed miserably when Dune already strong women everywhere. Dune is modern "as is" and is totally fantastic so trying to modify it for "modern audience" was stupid, he actually killed characters by trying to empower them. I think Villeneuve didn't really read the books and understood them even less. Lynch at least understood the message but he wasn't free to do as he pleased, Dino de Laurentiis is the one responsible for the silly parts and Lynch left so the ending is entirely made by him. What people attack Lynch on is purely based on technology limitation which would not look good and the limited budget he had in a limited time. No wonder Lynch didn't want to be credited originally and fought hard to have his name removed from the extended version as the producer credited is "Alan Smithee" which is an acronym of "the alias men" and used by many producers who do not want their name to appear in the credits. Could talk about this for hours ! That's the problem when you're passionate about something... It's boiling deep inside when something isn't right !
Hi, thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts on this topic. I do understand what you mean about those changes, and on one hand I agree with you, but you also have to remember that movie producers never let their movies be 1:1 with books as they fear people wouldn't enjoy seeing everything they already know about. So they pull stunts like Liet being played by a woman. And you are totally right, the older movies did suffer a lot because of the lower tech level available for production.
@@perafilozof Yes and no, it's a format problem as you need to squeeze a dense and deep story into a 2 hours movie (well, 3 for Villeneuve) But Villeneuve for Dune did his Villeneuve, that means that he wants to put women forward no matter what, he did it in every single movie so why not Dune? Right? That's exactly why he created Liet as a woman... Destroying the character. Liet being an old man with a dead wife puts forward that a man, especially older, would have trouble to raise a child correctly because he misses that maternity side and the link which forms between the baby and the mother during pregnancy. Liet is grieving for his wife, not knowing what to do and having to obey the Emperor and siding with the Fremen at the same time. Also, Liet being old makes and a leader for the fremen place him as somebody more detached from his daughter, not understanding and not trying to understand what she's going through as a teenager. Villeneuve broke this myth. Also, the new Liet, the woman, does not believe in Paul a single second, neither does Chani and a bunch of her friends... This broke the myth and makes you question why did she "fall in love" with him (because she never seem in love with him at any point during the 2nd movie, instead acting against him... So does many fremen not believing in him, and since he didn't teach them anything, the other fremen are just blindly following but the non-believers, why do they follow if that's what they think?) Another problem, and the biggest problem of the 2nd movie is time... The war against the Harkonnen is supposed to last at least 2 years I believe and in the movie it happens so fast that Alia isn't even born yet. You don't really follow the entire scene which is supposed to happen with Rabban and should have a deeper meaning since it lasted quite a while and during that time Rabban slaughtered a lot of people. And finally, the movie ends with Chani throwing a fit and still not believing in Paul, leaving on a worm alone because ... who knows? When Jessica explained to her what was happening. Worst, during the entire fight between Paul and Feyd, Chani never seemed moved or worried about Paul. Villeneuve could have introduced a little text with X years later and other thing but no, he had to put Zendaya forward with a non-sensical story. If Villeneuve wanted to put a woman forward, why not focus on Jessica? Why not focusing on Irulan? She is the perfect excuse for an off-screen voice over to explain what happened since she is an historian who wrote about Paul's story. Why getting rid of the count Fenring when Margot was in... and honestly, if you haven't read the books, I wonder how you can make sense of what is happening in both movies since nothing is ever explained and the time being cut short is messing with the entire story when Dune is all about taking your time, carefully planning, ... The only thing Villeneuve did well is the visual, the soundtrack is meh (who can beat Toto anyway?). The director of photography did an amazing job on the movie. Paul, Jessica and Leto were amazing, the Harkonnen were also really well cast and dressed.... I agree that there are some good things about Villeneuve, he did it in Blade Runner 2049, he did it in Arrival, he's good with scenery but Dune... he butchered it. At least the rain at the end of Lynch's movie by Dino the Laurentiis did not remove the meaning of the story and characters. Well, sorry, I'm probably annoying you with my long post but eeeh... Not the first time I write such a novel under your video, probably not the last either. (so many people comment, don't know if you remember me each time you see my comments but it's really cool to talk to you :)
Oh I not only remember who wrote often and long, but I also get these small icons next to your username which tell me some important facts like if you are subscribed publicly to me, do you often comment, do I often give you a heart on your comments and so on. I also remember the avatars of people who often comment. I agree with you that the story had the be shredded and stitched back together for the sake of fitting it into a movie format. That part can't be helped, so writers and directors have to pick a theme of the IP to carry over into the movie. Changing stuff is the second thing they do, and one I like far less. Probably the biggest problems comes from using the name of the books in the title. Like if it was called Legend of Arrakis or something I wouldn't care too much if they took creative license with it. But when you call it Dune but go off the rails in some parts it is no longer Dune. But again, it is a given when you watch a movie based on a huge book that it won't and can't be 1:1. So you just have to accept that beforehand. What I think they did amazing with the last movie is to carry over the world from the Dune universe if not the full story.
This is criminal this game and other old Westwood Dune games aren't available due to copyright stuff. Overall? I like this game more than the other Dune games. Fun fact. RA2 had a trailer of Emperor as a teaser. "FOR THE DUKE!" - Minotaur unloading four barrels of hell.
I have the original discs of this game 😅... sad it has no remake... as far as i know is because dune licences are too expensive.... other cool games you can't see anymore are the battle for middle earth games...
While the graphics of these days are super impressive. As a kid, I hoped that we would have the same graphics as Tiberian Sun/RA2 or even C&C Generals but advancements focused in computing so we could have the same games but larger scale maps / more units. I wanted the same base building depth, resource fields, etc as typical C&C; but on a scale of Wargame Red Dragon series. The market want for quick esports / skirmish matches, and the focus on graphics sadly made this dream not happen. With small exceptions like supreme commander. But SC and Planetary Annihilation cant replace C&C's charm for me sadly.

Second Edit: this may be a false positive due to AndroidOS/ZkarletFlash being flagged as a Trojan, it has happened to other github based repositories, it's like a hack to get multiplayer to work. Final Edit: I am not feeling that file, so I am not downloading that patch, the other one in the first link doesn't have it so I will go with that one. No shade to perafilozof, I love his content.

I remember being disappointed by this game's visuals. I think it came too early in the 3d era, its 3d models being soooo low poly. I'd have preferred they stuck with 2d sprites like in their previous effort, which also served as my true introduction into the RTS genre, Herzog Zwei being a game I didn't really stick with.

@@perafilozof Yes and no, it's a format problem as you need to squeeze a dense and deep story into a 2 hours movie (well, 3 for Villeneuve)
But Villeneuve for Dune did his Villeneuve, that means that he wants to put women forward no matter what, he did it in every single movie so why not Dune?
So does many fremen not believing in him, and since he didn't teach them anything, the other fremen are just blindly following but the non-believers, why do they follow if that's what they think?)
Another problem, and the biggest problem of the 2nd movie is time...
😳😩😍 I wish GOG would bring it back to us... in the preservation program... and maybe w/ multiplayer too 😊
I loved ordos tanks 😅
Well... we all would. But at least modders and players have our back :)
I really miss this game besides dune 2000.
Tell me about it. Thank you for sharing
This is criminal this game and other old Westwood Dune games aren't available due to copyright stuff.
Overall? I like this game more than the other Dune games.
Fun fact. RA2 had a trailer of Emperor as a teaser.

Thank you for this. I had it on CD back in the day but lost them. Oops.
What cd mounting software would you recommend?
Hi and thx for the comment. I used Virtual CloneDrive, and it is both free and simple.
Imagine Empire at War but on the scale of Sins of a Solar Empire... not just single systems
Hello and thank you for sharing your thoughts on it. I agree that it might have worked better if they kept the old graphical style... but it is history now. Have you tried playing Beyond all Reason?
That would be something special :)
I was looking for a new RTS to play and god send you
Hehe, that is great to hear! Enjoy!
I'm getting a virus warning on the patch 😕
Its because Microsoft only tags safe the stuff it was sent to be certified. Many have used it, 0 problems.
I still have my disk copy lol
King among gamers you are my friend! Favorite Great House to play with?
When I attempt to download the Emperor launcher my PC tells me it's a virus :(.
@@Raider0075 because it never went through certification with Microsoft. Like any other custom software people make for other people to use. It isn't a virus or a trojan.
I couldnt play it on hd resolution, it was just 1280 or something like that, also the game crashing sometimes
Hello, did you follow the steps to install the HD patch? Do you run the game with the EmperorLauncher?
@@perafilozof I run it with the EmperorLauncher.exe included in the second link you provided but i readed you cant run it more than 1280x1020 or something like that so its a shamr
That is strange, because I get the full spectrum of resolutions in the menu. Not sure what is causing the problem for you.
Is there a 16:9 screen fix? Without just stretching the picture and calling it a day.
There is actually. I just keep it like that for extra nostalgia :)
@@perafilozof I remember only being able to run it in 1280x960 on 1080p monitor so that it doesn't ruin 4:3 aspect ratio and doesn't crop.
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I would be weary of that patch, its coming up with a trojan in the files. I don't know if it was compromised or something of the sort but its alerting all my PCs antivirus and firewall programs Edit: has someone contacted the original creator of the patch? Second Edit: this may be a false positive due to AndroidOS/ZkarletFlash being flagged as a Trojan, it has happened to other github based repositories, it's like a hack to get multiplayer to work. Final Edit: I am not feeling that file, so I am not downloading that patch, the other one in the first link doesn't have it so I will go with that one. No shade to perafilozof, I love his content.
Hello, it gets flagged because it is a custom file that never went through Microsoft certification. There are no trojans or viruses in it. This is a reputable program made from a fan of the game for other fans like us.
Hello and thx for sharing your memories of it. I fully agree, and I mentioned that in the video. It was a brave first step and it requires a good remake.
I still have the box for this somewhere. Fun game but I lost interest pretty quickly after I beat it. Lots of really good ideas here but I think it was a victim of its time.
I know, it got outdated almost out of the games considering its graphics and some gameplay mecahnics/UI/controls. Thx for the comment! Favorite great house to play with?

Hi and thx for sharing. Indeed, those other games are more popular for online play.
Its would be great to have an remastered Version of this game!😄 Not this GARBAGE like spicewars and the Mmo crap aweking..🙄
Uh, I think it needs a remake, more than a remaster as many of its systems are really old, and the textures need remaking not just upgrading the resolution. Otherwise, I agree with you. Favorite Great house?
