    Hearing Jake talk about staying on As I Lay Dyings bus reminds me of when I met Jake when he opened up for AILD in 2007/2008. I hope he'll read this, but probably not.
    I was 17, and I nervously went up to Jake at House of Blues before he played and told him how much I liked his band and asked him to sign my ticket, as he was signing it I told him I love his band and have been listening to it for over a year, he told me "You should come sing with us", I got so anxious and excited at the same time, that I just said "Hell yeah!" and then nervously walked away really fast. I still have his ticket to this day, and am now a lead vocalist in a metal band. Heavily influenced by both Tim and Jake.

    Dear Jake, I gotta tell you, that I had the pleasure to tour with AILD in Germany twice (unfortunately never with ABR) and I must say, I just felt so much what you just said! We were just a small Band opening for a tour package every night and these guys were the nicest and most humble dudes ever! They invited us to hang out, knew all our names from day one, greeted us so heartwarming every new day, frequently asked if everything was ok, etc. I mean, they had lots of other stuff and business to take care of, than caring about us I'd say. It was something, I never ever experienced again with any other band or people in general! It had such a huge impact on me that I'd say if everyone, me included, would treat people like they did treat us, the world would be it's best version it could possibly be!

    As I Lay Dying started it all for me back in 2007/2008. I was a senior in high school and was mostly listening to bands like Underoath and the softer side of hardcore music. Then I heard the song "94 Hours" by these dudes and the rest is history. There was something so unique about their sound...the combination of super melodic and chunky guitar riffs coupled with chaotic drumming and emotional vocals. Once An Ocean Between Us dropped, I was hooked. I will argue until I'm blue in the face that that album is the most iconic and influential metalcore album to date.

    • @MrJordwalk
      @MrJordwalk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that "An Ocean Between Us" is iconic and influential, but it isn't the most.
      Albums like CONVERGE's "Petitioning The Empty Sky" and "When Forever Comes Crashing", EARTH CRISIS' "Destroy The Machines", INTEGRITY's "Those Who Fear Tomorrow", COALESCE's "Give Them Rope" and "Functioning On Impatience", ZAO's "Where Blood And Fire Bring Rest", SHAI HULUD's "Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion", HATEBREED's "Satisfaction Is The Death Of Desire", SNAPCASE's "Progression Through Unlearning", CAVE IN's "Until Your Heart Stops", BOTCH's "We Are The Romans", THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN's "Calculating Infinity" and POISON THE WELL's "The Opposite Of December" are all releases of indisputable and towering importance to Metalcore, as these bands (most whom formed in the 90s) are part of The Fundamental Wave of Metalcore (derived from Crossover Thrash).
      As I Lay Dying formed in 2000 and are part of the SECOND WAVE (a.k.a the 1st Wave of Melodic Metalcore), which includes bands like Underoath, Between The Buried And Me, Shadows Fall, All That Remains, Killswitch Engage, Norma Jean, Trivium, Unearth, Bleeding Through, Atreyu, Demon Hunter, The Devil Wears Prada, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Bring Me The Horizon, Heaven Shall Burn, Parkway Drive, Architects, Chimaira, and Darkest Hour (to name a few), bands that built on the foundation laid in the 90s by those Metallic Hardcore bands I mentioned by weaving Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Progressive Metal, and Groove Metal into the fabric of Metalcore.

    It's crazy how a band can build such incredible melody by letting the guitars just ring out.
    I think that it was released during these times for a reason.
    It sounds like: here's our reality, how do you react? How do you live? Do you see this for the darkness or the light?
    But maybe, more importantly for Tim and Josh's reaction to Tim's choices, do you look inside and grow (strength) or look inside and fall apart (destruction)?
    As a single, it's the perfect distillation of As I Lay Dying: Jordan's stellar drumming, those ringing guitars, Josh's voice contrasting Tim's screams, and Tim's screams themselves (both the highs and the lows, but those gutturals are stunning).

    Hahaha the fade 😂 your reviews are my new favorite thing Jake keep them coming! You should honestly review your own album when it comes out that would be HILARIOUS.

    I feel like more bands should try and make a TH-cam presence like Jake is doing. It’s really nice seeing one of my favorite vocalist share his opinions about another bands music.

    Loved this video. Also thank you for the killer show in Grand Rapids Michigan. Probably the last show we will get to see for a while. Hoping As I lay Dying makes it in June but I'm not getting my hopes up. Check out a band called Expellow. As song called Hometown. If they make more like this they should blow up the sceen soon
